Update Recon badge - Discussion

in General
Current Recon badge description:
Comparision to Pokemon GO:
Question: Should the Recon badge get an update on the description and/or title?
Personal input:
I never had access to the old OPR. I started reviewing with the release of Wayfarer for Pokemon GO in fall 2019.
Arguments:
+ newer players will understand what this badge means and how to unlock it.
+ the badge would reflect todays technology.
- the OG flare would get removed
Happy for any further arguments.

Honestly, the only thing that needs adjustment is the description. The medal name itself can stay.
OPR has expanded to what is known as Wayfarer today. I'm surprised they haven't updated the text the title to match the current name.
Just change the text “Operation Portal Recon” to “Niantic Wayfarer” and then done.
I have fonder memories of the days of Operation Portal Recon than I do Wayfarer, so I hope it doesn't change. Nearly all of my 14k agreements were before it was known as Wayfarer. I like that the title and description are unique to Ingress.
In my case OPR is 100% correct as I got all my progress through OPR and completely quitted using it when it became Wayfarer.
If you want to get back to reviewing, please set Brussels as your bonus location. We have quite a backlog.
How can I contribute graphic designs for icons and badges?
For me its the other way around. I never used OPR.
Maybe the easiest would be to write "... to OPR/Wayfarer..."
I would suggest for the medal being retroactive, I mean, having the same count in both games. It has no sense having the PoGo medal with less agreements than my Wayfarer's progress just because the game is younger than Ingress. This medal is suposed to reflect your Wayfarer agreements, which is a separate tool and not a game-dependant feature.
As far as I know, it is retroactive. I became instant plat in Go when the badges came out last year. However, the same rules apply in that you have to be in good standing for the agreements to count
It is retroactive. However, PGO never had x2 agreements as special events. This is why my badges are different.
@LukeAllStars Ingress had double Wayfarer points for a while... it started in April 2020 and I'm not sure when it ended. I hit onyx Recon during this period, and pretended I didn't until I had 10K agreements legitimately. My current numbers:
There have also been some differences about how edit agreements were counted in different games, I believe, but I haven't kept track of those details. I don't think there's a way to see numbers for your edit agreements.
There is:
(Number of Redeemed upgrades × 100 + current %) - (Agreements accepted + agreements rejected + agreements duplicated)
Only works when you never wasted an Upgrade. Also, some OPR stats might not work.
Ah, right! That works, but not for me because I've wasted hella upgrades.
I very much miss OG OPR. And I hope this stays for the nostalgia
It would be easy to turn the badge into a mix of the old and new-- just replace the yellow bars with Wayfarer location pins of the same color. Here's a mockup.
Merging the names seems harder.
Could always retire the badge and make a new one for Wayfarer.
a change would probably and as horrible as the MD medal change. so i would prefer keep the current one
The de facto is people will complain either way.
(The MD badge makes sense as the original design was never for a tiered badge,)
I still think the original was way better
