I have more issues after the first 3-4 resos are placed. I’ll be spamming resos as I start to walk away and have to stop as it just lags out before I can get all 8 on. So stupid
It has nothing to do with keys in caps, these are basically idle. (As shown when doing 1000km+ links, or operating on BGAN or other low signal connections.)
I really didn't play much over the weekend outside of cargressing and bumping existing portals, but what I have noticed is the notifications are very hit and miss. Some I get, some I don't and my favorite is when you get the alert that says a portal is neutralized (it wasn't flipped).
I am able to induce permanent lag into my client off of a fresh start of the game. I do this by attacking a tight group of clustered portals/fields in a short amount of time. By the time I finish, you can see the video/game lag persists compared to the start of the video. Both scrolling around on the map and taking actions is affected by this. Oddly enough, the glyph game, inventory management, and the animation of my drone moving to another portal are not affected.
I then reboot the game and all the lag is gone.
The only thing I can attribute to this is the change where attacked portals no longer add all the AP together and display it in one go, instead making a stream of small AP amounts in a row. I never used to have this problem until that was added to the game.
From the view of an IT person (not a developer), it would seem that this isn't server lag, but client-side lag. Most likely induced by some sort of memory leak that won't release system resources. I'm betting it has something to do with the change in AP displayed.
I'm on a razer phone 2 running android 9. Plenty of horsepower to run the game, it has been flawless on my phone up until recently.
Somehow I think this is unrelated. A little while back there was huge lag and app crash when attacking a cluster just like that. I think the crashing has stopped, but there is still a problem.
because when i see when agents in usa report lag it looks alot worse then it is for me, idk why is so.. We dont know how many cluster servers there is, maybe if play usa its worse then europe ?
Well, I don't know how this is all set-up or connected. I do know over the weekend even pokemon players were reporting issues. And it was told it was because of the linkstars being made by players in the game.
Link star or not, past few days the lag was a lot more than before. Nobody seems to care but the players.
Either way, I don’t feel we are important. That they are passionate about their own game. That they play it like their players do.
If so, the Ada kinetic program producing a Jarvis would have been caught. They wouldn’t ask us to report latency because they would experience it themselves. They would know that it makes players less likely to play.
Ingress was a game that got me out to play. Now it’s a game I play when I am outside. The amount of times I’ve shrugged when the game lags out once again, and just put my phone in my pocket and went home have increased dramatically.
This is yet again something that is driving away players, and Niantic is clearly not invested in getting it sorted, or at least notify people about what’s going on. The “carrot on a stick” threads are also useless. Hardly any players report lag, and nobody from Niantic took a second look.
I also want to chime on this that i'm conflicted by now paying for ingress on a subscription basis to help support it and at the same time the general stability of this game seems to have taken an significant plunge. So often i'm just waiting for weapons to fire or resonators to deploy it's aggravating.
This needs a fix if i'm supposed to continue to maintain this subscription.
Either that, or just turn off the servers if Niantic only has eyes for it's higher turnover IP's.
@NianticBrian@NianticThia These problems have been around since the introduction of C.O.R.E. and Portal History layers. Maybe these are connected to the current experienced lag?
I'm gathering keys for a battle beacon AP engine and that's about all I have planned for the anniversary event. I'm a million away from hitting 16 for the second time, but that's about the only thing keeping me playing lately. Even that has me nervous since I know battle beacons will probably be a struggle...
I've lost a total of 6 apex due to this lag misery. I had a week off planned, like you I have like 8 million to go for L16, so I thought I would hit L16, recurse and get to at least level 10-12.
I've changed my plans. No update means no solution, means I would be frustrated half of the time; no thanks.

Is it just me or is the lag worse?
From what I've noticed in chats about this, the lag also depends on the person's location. Are there multiple nodes for the Ingress servers?

It was terrible today.
i think the lag is worse in US then Europe.
@NianticThia I hope this video helps:

Naw, I'm getting lag just deploying n hacking, unless its multiple issues.
I don't think it is. What makes you think so?
It was terrible yesterday. At least 15 instances where it was lagging, most of those times I just restarted to get it over with.
Somehow I think this is unrelated. A little while back there was huge lag and app crash when attacking a cluster just like that. I think the crashing has stopped, but there is still a problem.

Meanwhile, more deafening silence... Niantic replies lag worse than anything.

A paid medal with a cat is more important to developers! Alas, this is a fact.
Because I'm sure the people who designed the medal are the same people who are working on the server and the app.

Maybe thats the root of the problem 🧐

@NianticBrian @ofer2 @NianticThia Any update on the lag issue?
Is it due to recent Enl starbursts? If so and you are not willing to assign more server resources, limit inbound links?
imagine how much lag next month will be when drones down to 9min hacks....
For some people actually pulling up the drone screen eliminates the lag for that instance.
Simple: cancel the subscription!
No question about why paying for a game that is too laggy to be playable.
Also hurts Niantic where it matters. The day the lag is fixed I will happily resubscribe. Tho I may have left the game completely by then...

So no solution or feedback before the birthday event?
I have reverted my week off, not going to spend my time frustrated at this game. :D
yeah im worried too, colder weather now and lag is not something look forward if the event will lag alot...

Well yes this changed the interest for playing during the event completely. I'll play but not as much as I did last year..
And I am definitely not paying for apexes this time around.
