Adventure Sync is an important Lightship feature; stay tuned

in General
Just noticed this from a few days ago when I scrolling through Twitter. A user had complained about the KCap distance not being tracked right and Brian responded. To add to this, I know Adventure Sync has been broken for almost all Android users on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite for some time, and I imagine that pulls from Lightship too. However, it will be fixed in the first week of October in that game, see below;
So I guess we will see Adventure Sync roll out after October? Does that count as Soon™️? 🤔
Just thought I’d share.

Fingers crossed! After this event, I am very much looking forward to having an Adventure Sync feature.
It's been shared here and there in the forums, but don't think there is an active thread. Would be nice to have, that's for sure. I'm assuming kinetic caps you can purchase will be part of the drop or not far behind this feature.
Looking forward to it. It could have probably been timed slightly 🤏 better and come out before the KCap challenge, but it will be nice to have more of my distance tracked.
It feels very old school to have to drop an item or use a burster to have distance tracked, and with exercise being a core of Niantic’s ethos, in-game rewards / perks for an active lifestyle are always a plus.
Adventure Sync is also broken in Transformers Heavy Metal.
So it looks like all the other non pgo games will be getting a working Adventure Sync sometime in October
I'd be down for an adventure sync feature in Ingress. Means I'd be able to swap between games more often without worrying about losing distance on Ingress
Adventure sync is so abused, bots will gain a very rare mod farm feature
The drop rate for VR mod, flip cards, & HC is crazy high currently. The bots could just farm said mods just as easily.
I will like to NOT have adventure sync into ingress.
I REALLY dislike the idea of having any benefits by NOT having the app open or NOT playing ingress at all.
If someone want to receive benefits or add KM into trekker medal stats, then open up ingress AND PLAY THE GAME.
Thats the main purpose of ingress, PLAY, hack portals to get items, interact with the gameboard, colaborate with your faction, capture portals, mod portals and definitely not, having benefits by just not doing nothing and just having your cellphone in your pocket.
So, I've "played Ingress" by:
I shouldn't be obligated to keep the app open in order to receive credit for walking from one portal to the next. Maybe I don't want to hold my phone in my hand, but I also don't have a big baggy coat pocket to put it because it's 95ºF.
On the flip side, it's already the case that we can get credit for walking without playing Ingress. Some (most?) of my Kinetic Capsules for this recent event were completed by me just walking around with Ingress open. I didn't actually interact with the game board in any meaningful way.
I think there's a middle ground here: use Adventure Sync to augment Ingress's knowledge of my travel and walking, and combine that with my history of game actions to decide when I was "playing Ingress." For example: Five minutes of walking without a game action might just mean there's a bit of distance between two portals. Five hours of intermittent walking without a game action probably means I'm doing something else.
I agree 100%
It's ok to add distance to trekker/KC if you close Ingress for a few minutes as you want in portalless area. But having Ingress closed for multiple hours and having that distance added makes NO sense.
Adventure Sync can be turned off. So feel free to switch it off.
Any update on this feature @NianticBrian or @NianticThia ? I know that the fix for (presumably the Lightship version of) Adventure Sync was meant to roll out to HPWU this week but I haven’t seen anything yet.
We do have a reduced distance event in December, so hope we get it before then.
You heard it here firs…wait, never mind. Apparently another lightship feature is temporary portals. Would love to see these available for agents too. Maybe for FS or other events related to Ingress (xfac stuff to be clear)
The impact on speed locks gonna be interesting.
They do the Lights Festival every year. These are the same as check in portals and NL-1331 portals. I mean being able to distinguish event POIs does help automate things especially if they were used for FS and anomalies.
While I generally agree with you, I like the idea that I can close ingress and work on wayfarer while I am hiking between distant portals and still get walking credit for Ingress.
