I am not speaking for probably most players. Where I live my country has had less than ten mission days in the before times. That said, for August Second Sunday and September Second Sunday a few of us made travel plans to these older mission day locations. I guess you could, if possible where you live, given Covid lockdowns, and nearness to old mission day locations, you could make plans just in case. I am also happy with allowing others to participate in mission days without the travel. The travel was never possible for many and some did not care. I got Oynx MD in the before times but it was expensive and I had the free time at work. This new format is greatly encouraging players to do missions. This is an adaptation for a pandemic. I am also keen to have the old style mission days. But when it is safe to do so.
You realize the Mission Day was originally a one-off badge, right? The tiering was done after the fact. By your definition, we should go back to before tiering was added.
Planning the missions was not something most people who attend Mission Days are involved with, and you can invite groups to join you at Second Sunday to add a social element. It was happening in some places in August when the format called for official missions. Not everyone really cares about the social stuff either, for some it's just about visiting a new city or working on a badge.
Edit: to add, Niantic was planning to automate the check-in/check-out process before the pandemic even started, so that would have eliminated the need to get a table at a bar/restaurant to check people in and out, and thus eliminate a big social aspect of the event. So, traditional Mission Days were already heading in this direction before Covid.
I'm failing to see how the rules have been changed dramatically.
Second Sundays were introduced as a way to allow players to take part in events without unnecessary travel. If it's a permanent thing, cool. If it's not, it would be ashame to lose that accessibility for those of us that can't just easily travel around but also cool. Either way, it still doesn't take away from what others have done in the past, like you've tried making out in a previous comment.
At the end of the day, it's good that NIA are actually pushing events through now for Ingress, since their other games have had events still happening throughout the pandemic, and the fact that they've made something slightly more accessible for a lot of players isn't a bad thing.
I always travelled to MD I love the idea of MD. I'm also participating in Second Sunday. I also love the idea of Second Sunday. It's just not the same. We should have separate badges. The problem is not with Second Sunday. The problem is Second Sunday is not Mission Day.
You are again missing the point. Missions were mayba a half of MD experience. Rest was community effort. I travel to do the missions. I traveled to do Second Sundays. I traveled to do MD. I don't need SS to travel and do some missions.
I enjoyed traveling to do MD, even with the effort needed to travel abroad (we had only 5 in my country, 2 of them before I started playing). In contrary, it was even more enjoyable to meet all this fantastic people who were ther to do the same - meet and do missions together. SS is something completely different. And it won't change depending on my choices of missions or travel destinations.
As mentioned, I travel to do missions. So I welcomed Second Sunday as greate addition to Ingress, especially it's meeting my style of playing. I'm only pointing, it's completely different event than MD. It should not replace MD, nor be the MD successor.
Second Sunday should be what it is: separate event with own badge.
I'm missing your point on what makes it different. Niantic has been offering less events even before COVID. They have been making group events much more community-led with the effort done entirely by the community. If you have led any physical First Saturdays, it's about the same effort. Even with anomalies, the ability to have Mission Days were thanks to POCs.
I tried to get to the West coast in August but I can wait on Q4 and Q1 announcements. I think the Covid-19 pandemic restricts us all to some extent. Getting across the border between US and Canada is presently complicated by expensive Covid-19 tests that are almost as much as the plane tickets.
NL1331 was a sort of rare thing in the past with only a handful every quarter.
I could also ask about Operation Clear Field events which I am sure we both want more of too!
From my understanding the Goruck events are already in full swing. I could be wrong but I believe they just had there biggest event ever with there 9/11 event in NYC. They had 100's show up and take part in that event.
Goruck wants Niantic to look more active before they start doing things with Agents again.
GORUCK is a completely different organization. It's simply based if Niantic wants to have "GORUCK x Ingress" events which are usually at anomalies and OCF.
I think you're ascribing higher standards to GORUCK than GORUCK actually has. If Niantic said to restart Ingress events today, GORUCK would restart Ingress events as soon as the check cleared.
Oh, please. GORUCK's "higher standard" is denial wrapped in a fake safety policy of "we require participants to pack two masks, but we don't require any participants to wear masks, because FREEDUMB!" Only the dumb luck that 99% of rucking events are outdoors has saved them from starting a COVID outbreak.

Nobody is stopping you from traveling for SS and completing MD missions you haven't done yet.
This game is what *YOU* make of it.
Precisely this. If people are able to and willing to travel to do MD missions, they should. None of us are trying to stop them

Disagree. For those of us in poor rural areas, having Mission Days closer to home helps them be more accessible for us.
Right now, it also has the added benefit of having a mission-based event without the risk of having large crowds during a pandemic.
What about NL 1331? Is that dead now your only doing the West cost?
I tried to get to the West coast in August but I can wait on Q4 and Q1 announcements. I think the Covid-19 pandemic restricts us all to some extent. Getting across the border between US and Canada is presently complicated by expensive Covid-19 tests that are almost as much as the plane tickets.

OCF would be something that GORUCK decides on
From my understanding the Goruck events are already in full swing. I could be wrong but I believe they just had there biggest event ever with there 9/11 event in NYC. They had 100's show up and take part in that event.

what u mean wants to look more active ?
GORUCK is a completely different organization. It's simply based if Niantic wants to have "GORUCK x Ingress" events which are usually at anomalies and OCF.
I'm ready to see it first!!!
Cause Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration, "The World's Most Magical Celebration" has begun!!!
And now, Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration are now taking over Ingress' Second Sunday events!!!
And I discovered that all 4 theme parks was actually "Beacons of Magic" at Walt Disney World, when I found all portals!!!
And that was only the beginning.....
I think you're ascribing higher standards to GORUCK than GORUCK actually has. If Niantic said to restart Ingress events today, GORUCK would restart Ingress events as soon as the check cleared.
Niantic doesn't want to do any effort towards events so yes, they are definitely a higher standard as far as I'm concerned
Oh, please. GORUCK's "higher standard" is denial wrapped in a fake safety policy of "we require participants to pack two masks, but we don't require any participants to wear masks, because FREEDUMB!" When will we have the full schedule for the next few months?
What time does the event start?
It runs from 00:00 to 23:59 local time.

Thank you - we had FUN :-)
