My poi submitted in ingress has become a pokestop, a fortress and even a resource centre in Catan but not a portal 😭. There are a number of new POIs in my suburb I'm going to submit them .... Afterall Wayfarer takes forever..... Lol....
Just I play ingress the most .... So would like to have POIs I submit come through.
Now I know I sound entitled yet....I have submitted many portals. When I started playing pogo it blew my mind how much money you collect from portals submitted by me. Up to at least 2 years before pogo submissions were opened up ... Niantic has made a lot of money with the portals I discovered. Sunnybank pogo people play pogo hard lol.
Yet another botched system from Nia who we now pay for yet get this substandard, flakey nomination system. Agents that spend time, money and a lot of effort to create POI to enhance the ingress experience will now be robbed. Stuff travelling to far places of interest to have your efforts extinguished to suit other gaming platforms, as a paying subscriber for this game I expect a nomination via the ingress app to 100% appear on the ingress portal network if the criteria is met otherwise why bother.
An honest question. I only play Ingress and do not play other Niantic games. I don't particularly care about the game experience in those games either.
Why should someone like me continue to submit potential portals, if they can now get approved and appear in other games but NOT appear in Ingress?
I'm going to make an attempt to answer/clarify what I can! I know it will not answer everything but this is what I know (I think) so far - I'm 99% certain I've got some of these things wrong but I'm going with it and will clarify/correct/edit as I learn differently.
Now - most importantly, you MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT need to do anything to clean up. We are working on this with the Lightship team. I in no way meant to make a joke out of it or insult anyone with my AP comment - I was trying to look on the bright side that we have a lot of new Portals! I have no idea how many of them are not up to our standards as Ingress Agents, but my hope is that MANY of them do qualify (I may be wrong)... and if we can get AP off of submitting photos for them, I want to encourage Agents to do so if they can.
Do NOT in any way shape or form try to report a Portal via your Scanner if you cannot reach it or it would be unsafe to do so. I have not yet looked on the Wayfarer Forums to see if they have a way of reporting any of these Wayspots there but that is a possible route to take. Or wait for us (Niantic) to get to it.
Next - AFAIK, the rules for what is and is not accepted into Ingress have not changed. I will try to get clarity on that but that is what I'm operating on. These Wayspots did not necessarily show up as Portals because they qualified. I want to be clear on that because I see your feedback on the quality. We (Ingress team) were unable to vet them before they went live so we are working on it in the reverse which yeah - kinda sucks for us as Agents but we (Niantic) are working on it with priorities being given to Portals in the middle of the ocean and in sensitive areas at the moment.
I have seen the feedback on things that were submitted showing as Pokéstops still not showing up as Portals. All I got is "I don't know" but I'm still tracking it and trying to find out.
I don't know how you'll take it (or the ING team for that matter 😂) but there is one very big POSITIVE coming out of this for me, personally, and I'm kinda glad this happened. I now have a very clear example of how passionate we are as Ingress players about the quality of Niantic's Wayspots. It's not my anecdotal feedback. This is during my time at the company that I can clearly point to and say "See?"
If I submit a portal in.. the portal game of ingress then I don't care about any other games. I want my submission or double or quadruple ap if you still don't put it in the portal game where I submitted it from.
The proximity rule put in place @NianticThia was put in place to prevent multiple wayspots on top of each other. The early days of Ingress it was possible to cause an underflow glitch in the calculation of MU, where the size of the field was EXACTLY 0MU. This bugs has sice been fixed.
This hasn't been reviewed again. While other games may need spacing of 10m or so, In Ingress there are hundreds of thousands of legitimate wayspots that fall with the 3 to 10m radius.
Notably also since Prime, the last digits of lat/long from our GPS is truncated, vs classic Ingress where the whole lat/long is used made it super hard to deliberately place wayspots on top of each other.
These things have been brought up dozens of times on the wayfarer forum, but they say it is up to the devs, but the devs say it is up to wayfarer team. There is a clear lack of communication, and valid wayspots are still denied.
We need this proximity rule changed to something more reasonable.
We also need the wayfarer team to do more to stop the blatant manipulation of wayspots from a sizable pokemon go group. It has has serious ramifications not just with Ingress but other Niantic games as well.
We (Ingress team) were unable to vet them before they went live
I don't know how it works — or doesn't work — at Niantic, but going off of my own experience and my admittedly vague understanding of how the pieces fit together, this is how I imagine what should have happened:
Ingress team: Hey, guys, we're about to upgrade to the latest version. Any big changes we need to know about?
Lightship team: Yeah, not really. Database is the same usual stuff that's been through Wayfarer. Same format. I think we might have added a couple Foursquare imports at some point? Eh, whatever.
Ingress team: Uh… Foursquare POIs ≠ Portals. We can't just import that junk into Ingress…
1) who or what determines if a Lightship aproved wayspot becomes a Portal? what adittional characteristics should our Wayspot Nominations have? or what we should avoid? I think the community really wants to know this.
2) We get a reward for accepted wayspots, photos, and edits.... Why dont we get a reward for CLEANING when reporting wasypots that DOESNT EXIST, ARE FAKE, or at a wrong location? this acctually ADDS MORE QUALITY TO THE GAME than getting a wayspot accepted.
3) On the past, we could report old portals that no longer exist, but that Niantic refused to removed them from the game. With Lightship is now posibble to get rid of such old an inexistent portals? We have a cemetery at Mexico City that shouldnt be a playground, but since it has many old portals, we could never get a positive removal from Niantic.
Lightship team: we added a hundred thousand pokestops from foursquare. Could not run that through wayfarer, reviewers would reject 99%. We need more pokestops for all to enjoy!
Ingress team: sounds like garbage, let's wait and see
Lightship team: pokemon players are happy :) we offered google form to report bad pokestops - they haven't reported any
Ingress team: how about we adjust "import rules" to check POI source, and do not import that into ingress?
Lightship team: just try, ingress players will clean up the worst portals (for free!), and the rest will stay
Well, I really don't understand why anyone would be surprised by how passionate Ingress players are about the game and the POI's that make up 90% of it. This has always been the case, the feedback after Prime was a great example.
Soon. :) (No, it's going to take a long time. Longer than you'd want, but we can't do anything about it.) Everything takes forever to get addressed or fixed, Prime UI/Portal visibility changes are exhibit A, COMMS being exhibit B.
I used to do a lot on OPR - now Wayfarer. I have the black reviewer badge with 13,356 agreements. My rating was never below "great".
A few days ago I thought I might try for my CORE wings on the badge so I reviewed the latest guidelines and I spent an hour or so reviewing things. There was some good stuff but an awful lot of lampposts, uninteresting buildings and bog-standard street benches which had justifications like: "We need more pokostops here".
I carefully graded everything and bounced back the invalid stuff - there was a lot of it.
I checked my rating and it was down to "fair" - possibly because I rejected invalid stuff which was rated positively by the "other community".
But I now see that Niantic itself has simply imported a mountain of ungraded junk into the portal system!
So I'm trying to get it right and being downgraded, while Niantic itself is degrading one of it's prime assets (the POI database).
Which leaves me disinclined to do Wayfarer for a while.
It's taken you till now to see how Ingress players are passionate about the quality of the portal database!? Seriously?
We have been crying murder since Pokemon players were enabled to submit.
That said, we can accept other game submissions, as long as they are reasonable quality, and this HAS been improving.
Mass import of Foursquare, roll it back, immediately. Niantic have done massive damage to the portal network with this import. I cannot stress this enough.
Ingress IS the portal network. The other games the locations are not strategic in any way. Sure, clusters are appreciated, that's about it.
Garbage in, garbage out, Foursquare was always very bad at accuracy and quality.
The huge outcry when Niantic changed interaction range recently in Pokemon was probably 90% whiney laziness on players part.
Ingress players will trek into risky, remote or out of the way places for strategic advantage.
Hell we had a strangely misplaced portal 400km offshore in middle of the ocean for years. Some players seriously considered going there! Luckily cost was too high.
On submissions, if we submit a portal in Ingress, I do not care about any other games, if it qualifies, I want it in Ingress. I have no other Niantic games installed. I do however pay subscription.
I'm frustrated I cannot remove invalid portals, my submissions get moved by Pokemonners, i get penalised for criticism of pokemon portals. We get no pedestrian access for portals on remote walk trails that are perfectly valid for example.
I've basically given up on Wayfarer because of these issues.
Please listen to our Russian brothers and sisters and roll this back and clarify submissions.

Excuse me, but is this a reason for pride or joyful comments? The portal database is littered with rubbish. The plot of the game is dead, there have been no new large-scale additions for a very long time. It's a shame to rejoice if there are only failures around.
Doing Wayfarer when it opened up to Pokemon got me to bad rating several times. Take the test and get back to 'fair' or something.
Lately it hasn't been that bad, but you can't really review 'like you are supposed to'.
If you reject three portals in a row, with the same reason, you get a timeout. Ridiculous. I've said it before, it's way too easy to get **** added to the game, and to get it removed feels like doing an actual huge amount work (Create photosphere, submit new photo, go through the game, open a topic, etc etc etc.). Expecting us to do this for the thousands of garbage portals that were just added to the POI database is crazy. Especially since you now have to be 'within range' of the portal to contribute. Yeah right.
I have seen the feedback on things that were submitted showing as Pokéstops still not showing up as Portals. All I got is "I don't know" but I'm still tracking it and trying to find out.
One clue: It appears that submissions that are manually reviewed by Niantic are among those that do not appear in Ingress.
Occasionally submissions will disappear from Wayfarer. Niantic has stated explicitly that this happens because they have been set aside for manual review. People generally get fast replies on these, but there are many documented cases on the forum where approved submissions don't appear in Ingress. I've also heard privately about this happening.
This pattern suggests that something is bugged and not that the criteria for entrance into Ingress have changed.
Thanks for investigating and all of your communication and follow-up on this!
@NianticThia I appreciate your response; but instead of dealing with the junk from Foursquare, there’s an unanswered question about actually submitted quality portals from Ingress players - all in all this is more than ironic… so;
What are we supposed to do about the wayspots that we have gotten accepted, have correct proximity etc, but aren’t showing up in Ingress?
We have been told earlier not to resubmit these. Apparently they are showing up in Lightship and even Wayfarer as Wayspots.
If this is a bug in the system, the least you could do is put up a form of some kind so people can get their missing portals reported and NIA can process them into Ingress. You do know that often getting a quality portal submitted AND accepted takes time, effort, gas, mileage, research, etc… and we do it for free.
So, do we just give up or is somebody actually working on it?

@NianticOfficial @NianticThia @NianticBrian a few questions that I hope you could answer.
FOR INGRESS:

------ you are here ------
No clarification for criteria.... so exploring, submitting and reviewing is useless from now on...very bad move
Taking away a key element of the game
Thousands of new portals without a picture. You're doing great, Niantic. How about a quick undo? Ah, I suppose that was never an option.
Holy ****. This is a problem. :D
Someone should hit CTRL+Z or run cleanup through the database.
That summarises it quite well.
so how many month after acceptance will we now have to wait for POI to appear in ingress 😔
Well, I really don't understand why anyone would be surprised by how passionate Ingress players are about the game and the POI's that make up 90% of it. This has always been the case, the feedback after Prime was a great example.

This feels ingress isnt prio nr. 1 when it comes to add new portals to network anymore?
It stopped being no.1 the second Wayfarer opened for PoGo. Ingress is now the game that cleans up the mess left by everything else.
People don't want the playboards manipulated to fit other games, yet they want the complete details of what enters each game,
2 things need to happen,
players need a way to change the pois independent of ANY game (including unassigned poi)
The entire Waypoints in use by every game need to be cleared completely, and re generated,,,,
