  • @ofer2 I hope you get paid overtime for all the extra stuff you've been trying for the agents that are stuck...I'm interested in that code you mentioned for 2.76.x I'm hoping it will also pickup something new such as GPS errors or server connection errors that will also go in the log files especially for me to try and get back into the game also.

    Note that there is a bug where onboarding will get stuck if you start it in an area where there are no portals around (I currently have a fix for it, but it prob wont be out this patch). So, when you do try again, please do so in an area next to a portal. Thanks!

    Just a thought but it probably won't work,on my account while I'm long ahead in the game could you actually "trigger" the tutorial to restart on the server side to see if the game would move along When I re-open it as I'm sure I'm still logged into the game and it's trying to talk to the server.

    While some swift kicks to the server by Thia can work on some things and if your like me you are horrified that someone is beating up technology I'm just thinking OSOTBE.

    According to the server all of the tutorial stuff is complete for your account. That shouldnt be causing any loading issues. Are you still unable to log in with the new patch?

  • Yes @ofer2 the tutorial stuff was done many eons ago,I was just wondering if triggering a restart of the tutorial from the server side (as I can't trigger it myself or see any menus) and then me trying open the app would move it forward,I'm currently on 2.75.1 as many should be by now and I have no issues updating the app or logging in but then it's just the black screen ofnothingness...however one thing I have noticed with 2.75.1 is if I manually turn of location from the Android system tray the in game audio stop completely silent...yet when I turn it back on I get a "location in-accurate" message pop up then it goes off the screen and the audio starts again...I keep thinking it's a GPS Lock stuck state that needs clearing/detecting as previously mentioned I don't have the location globe lock animations at startup any more and when it first happened in 2.4x I used to see overlapped portal bubbles nearby but as updates have gone forward these got removed in favour of a blank map...if there was a working 2.4x version of the app available that you could add your new code to as a test update minus all the newer features it would help narrow it down.

    I know it's not my device otherwise I wouldn't be able to play Harry Potter Wizards Unite or Pogo.

    The only other thing I noticed the other day while messing around in the settings was between HPWU & POGO they have an extra option for location permissions compared to ingress eg...the location service is only tracking when the app is open & not all the time when I'm walking around like the above apps but I suspect that's only related to the Adventure Sync Feature ?? I never noticed it before as I always had ingress open looking for neutral portals or enemy portals to defeat :-)

  • @ofer2 I know I've moaned in the past and currently a lot but please never ever think that I personally don't respect your hard work for constantly trying...I don't mind my scanner screwing up every now and then,Chucking up error codes like a beta that I can catch and create a log from to feed it back to you all that you actually look into and fix in a timely manner for everyone,I'm currently waiting for 2.76.1 to arrive on my side of the world which may take another week even though I see a few agents already have it in the "report a bug" section,if there's nothing in this release or the maintenance you've been doing that's fine I can continue to wait :-D

    I'm sure any other agents who are reading and liking this thread will also agree on your bug hunting dedication.

    Looking into Google maps the other day I was wondering is there a way to utilise a offline based map for an agents area within ingress that updates as needed as there seemed to be something as my scanner crashed where the screen would fade out but I could still see motion like a signal/GPS loss but it never seemed to free itself up this offline map then expands as newer areas or portal id's are detected to appear on the offline map to maybe ease on the server stress..just an idea mind you.

    Why I mentioned this is there was talk of the map provider ages back being changed from Google to OpenStreetMap i think and I wondered if this could be part of the issues of the Black Screen Of NBF.

    The issue @WonkyKerning mentioned was a different issue than yours. That issue was solved in the patch which just went out. Your issue will have a mitigation in the upcoming patch after this one.

    Hiya @ofer2 do you want the good news first or the bad news with update 2.77.1

    Well here's the good news...compared to 2.76.1 something you've added or changed has moved me along a step and has actually restored my Location Globe like I was asking for just to see if we were investigating in the right direction...I actually yelled out in excitement "He's Done it...OMG...HES DONE IT" when I saw the globe and then it hit me...oh fiddlesticks.

    Now The Bad News...

    I still load Into the map with sounds as per the normal with our old friend Mr "Black Screen" being present but no bubbles,portals,nearby boxes,or game HUD still.

    However I am now stuck with a "be aware of your surroundings" messaged glued to the front screen in purple...by glued I mean stuck to the point no matter how many times I tap the "ok" button it just flashes but with no sound or going away.

    The previous release allowed me to tap "ok" and remain with my "Black Screen"

    Everytime I create a log using the 4 finger method something different is coming up whether it be on WiFi or my 4G But there's loads of new stuff all over the place in the logs some with a HTTP 500 Error and a full weblink with a token code that when clicked and opened in the browser it takes me to a "token has expired" white page at Niantic labs see screenshot below.

  • I'm glad your as semi happy as I was feeling at this moment in time also,the brief sense of it starting to work just felt magical for me after all this time.

    It would have been nice for the whole thing to have fired up perfectly first go but as we both know this is the nature of the beast one fix somewhere can cause indigestion somewhere else.

    But again it's all trial and error and a brilliant way to learn from what component is failing,i'm just scrolling through all logs as I create them looking for anything different that wasn't there before such as this weblink and token and a random line of new text even if it only makes half sense to me.

    Hope these two logs help explain things @ofer2 the only thing I'd like to see is somehow having the settings menu/overlay always present in the forefront of the app even if the map data isn't there on the background map (black screen) where I can actually open the Settings HUD for all game options and in app support etc (no I'm not going to message them unless your the only one sitting there lol)...this would be the next step to see if that bit is still working.

  • Hiya @ofer2 Any kind of fix or move forward from what we now have is progress in my eyes and yours I bet :-D and it may even stabilise or reduce downtime for other agents too with black screen issues of any kind I hope if they somehow get logged in real time in the future.

    I'll come back to you when the next release is out with logs and videos as always after I've checked things out to see what has moved forward or backwards on my side.

    I did also receive a passcode on email for an ITO EN Supply Drop a week ago and just to rule anything extra out I applied it through the intel map,force stopped ingress and cleared caches and reloaded the app but nothing had moved forward on the app side,however the intel side did say it had redeemed correctly while I can't confirm this currently in my inventory as the intel map requires c.o.r.e to view my inventory,I'll take it's word for it and screenshots....while code redeeming does work for some agents with the black screen problem it does make me wonder as to what is falling over in either the app components/modules or the server side in the beginning to allow this trick to refresh the app.

    For me this all started when the game was trying to deploy resonators on a portal when the 4G/LTE Signal was very patchy in an area after the umbra update (2.xx) when the medals were huge as they were awarded and prior to this I had no sense of it or even needed the forum then the next portal hack/claim I tried to do on this portal location began my problems.

    and on my screen I had a blue spear appear above the nearby portal I was close to like it was timing out or had become stuck while trying to deploy and wasn't deploying because of the on/off nature of the signal in the area and as I moved slightly away from it to an area where the signal was a fraction better sometimes it would free up and deploy the resonators enough for me to then go back & deploy another and move away again etc...however one afternoon after the above update at the same portal when it failed to deploy that's when the black screen appeared and each restart,cache clear etc...didn't help at all,I had thought this one particular portal was causing it on the map data but there must be something a bit deeper to investigate but if it helps that's the culprit.

    Ugh, I'll try and see if I can come up with a new theory on tuesday. By any chance are you on Android 8? Thanks again for your patience on this.

  • My Device was originally installed with Android 8 (Dec 2018) then as all the new Main Versions came out my Nokia 7.1 (TA-1100) literally updated sooo fast to Android 9 which I was on at the time of the Initial Problem happening and then finally up to Android 10 which is what I'm currently on & now all I will get is Google Security Updates to November 2021 so I've been informed,I have noticed my Android 10 build is of 2019 & not the most recent release of 10 around a month ago if this helps.

    But this Black Screen issues & location globe loss all started pre-drone updates on Ingress Prime version 2.38.3 - (51fe414c)

    and When the Umbra update got added and I got the Bronze Medal from the event on my profile & that was the last time I could play and i have been trying to find solutions ever since,so out of interest what Unity Version were you running/building Ingress on back then that caused this as this could be an avenue to explore or maybe GPS/LTE Connection Code/Tools as I did have partial nearby portal bubbles on the black screen back then but these eventually disappeared by Version :- 2.43.4 (last record) before I came back with version 2.69.1 but still no nearby bubbles since.

    The latest update has just arrived today for me and whether you managed to find anything or add anything to this update i cant see much change apart from there was a minor slowdown lag on the globe transition this time where the alliance totals stayed on the screen in the bottom left after the globe disapeered and then it eventually moved onto what should be the map but the "stay alert" button is still stuck on the screen.

    Sorry, I havent had much space this patch because we're changing a bit of how onboarding gets loaded. This change affects startup and hopefully should fix some things for you. If this doesnt fix the issue, I'll try another band-aid after.

    No worries,im sure you'll get to the bottom of it thats why i wasn't prodding you for an update every 5 mins or when you said.

    Faster Startup and understanding of how Ingress works a bit easier will hopefully be a good addition but just remember with great fixes (power) comes even more (great) responsibility to stay in control of the main idealogy of what sets us agents on this path in the first place.

    Im sure i just swiped that from somewhere any ideas ??.

    I'll keep an eye out on future updates though.
