Sojourner x2

I have for the second time reached the milestone of completing sojourner with more than the 360 days. I was expecting my counter in the medal to now display x2.

Does this only happen when the 360 days are consecutive? And if so, why.. that seems stupid to me.

    Sojourner is like every other medal: You get x2 when the corresponding counter reaches x2 the value for Onyx. For Sojourner, that would be 720 days.

    If that feels unforgiving, well, I suppose that's why Epoch uses a different mechanic for basically the same thing.

    It's badly designed, but "Reaching 360" is not what gives you a point, but making your number x times 360. 1 = 360, 2 =720, 3 = 1080.

    In this way, Sojourner is different to every other badge, because all progress can be wiped clean away easily.

    Sojourner has always been a poorly designed badge, given that people with couch portals had an enormous advantage in achieving it (although the drone fixed this part), and you can lose ALL progress for reasons like:

    1. You go camping somewhere with no/unreliable power (to charge your device) and/or cell service (to connect to the server). For a game that's supposed to encourage exploring the world, this is not a small oversight.
    2. A blizzard (or tornado... or hurricane... or quake... or wildfire... or... you get the idea) knocks cell service out in a wide radius, and there's a no-drive order since no one's supposed to be on the road unless they're plowing it, clearing trees, or fixing the grid.
    3. Your phone takes a hit that kills it, and you're unable to get it replaced in under 24 hours.
    4. You just plain misplace your phone.
    5. Your phone is stolen, and again, you can't replace it in 24 hours.
    6. A flu lays you out for a full day.
    7. You land in the hospital for any number of reasons that make hacking a portal for 24 hours impossible.
    8. ...and so on and so on.

    If you want the red badge, none of these things can happen for 720 days. Even for Onyx or Plat, that's 360/180 days.

    I've long ago accepted that gold's as high as I'm getting that badge, and that if I want something that shows extended regular activity that isn't completely cancelled by any of the above, the Epoch badge is what Sojourner should have been.

    I've lost sojourner to a **** in he family, a hurricane, a Caribbean cruise, and to just being careless and losing it. I just got my 720 day flair on it last month.
