Second Sundays Mission Days
We are looking forward to resuming Ingress Mission Days through a distributed format on the weekend of July 9, where Agents can explore Agent-created Missions in their local area.

what are second Sunday Mission Days? i have never heard of that before.
It's a new thing. I expect a dedicated post by Niantic soon.
They are brand new and just announced in this post. They sound like they will be like First Saturdays, but focused specifically on getting players together to complete player-made missions.
I'm really excited, tbh. This is exactly how I always wanted Mission Days to work.
Could be a global challenge, do missions just?

Looking forward to this! The situation here in Germany has greatly improved so this should be possible. With the short preparation time I expect the requirements to be less formal than for the old Mission Days, maybe more like IFS with agent created missions. But this should include increasing the existing MD medal count.
If it will be "FS with local missions" format, hope there will be a new medal, not the old one.
Each step in old MD medal is a challenge: you should travel to to other city (often in hundreds or thousands km from your) to get that that medal.
I have many great memories from past agent-organized MDs: agents from all over the country (or even from abroad), nice missions, event swag, after party and great communications with agents who you didn't see for months and years.
Please leave MD medal to old-style MD events. There is no problem to wait them for another couple of years. If you will count local MD to it, we will never see great old-style MDs in future.

The point is not to give +1 for these monthly events in the old medal, which was about something else altogether. There's nothing complicated about that.
I did't say any word against a new format. I just ask to save an old one also.
There hasn't been a Mission Day in over a year. Do you not want motivation to go out and do things? I imagine the Mission Days would be the same exact expectation of exploring your local area.

Second Sunday missions sound fun if they work how people think. Would be nice to get that badge.

We currently have First Saturday
Now they are pushing for Second Sunday
Wonder if it will just be a repeated monthly thing like the current First Saturdays are? Or if they will require xx amount of agents to do (like First Saturday) which might be harder to obtain for some areas. Not sure if this means that they will be getting missions accepted faster, or if we will get volunteers from FevGames to approve missions for the "Second Sunday Mission Days".
It's dangerously Irresponsible to be encouraging meet-ups during a pandemic.
I wonder what they will be doing about IFS. The next IFS is only about a week before that first Mission Day.
I am hoping fs is still virtual and that the second sundays can be done without meeting in person. we are still household only. got hit bad with 3rd wave.

And it also says "local area". I'm wondering how "local" that means.
And there is not a lot of time if local organisation will be necessary.

I wish this would go to a different medal, if at all. "Mission days" in our local places every month is completely different thing from true Mission Days when entire country gathered together once a quarter in a city lucky enough to have one. These "Second Sunday" ones sound like oversimplification of everything about the true Mission Days.
My guess is that any mission or banner in your local area will be enough. I wish they could just release all details so we wont have to speculate the day before it starts.
And take away all the suspend and random speculation? Where's the fun in that?

Gatekeeping in this context means you don’t want others to have the badge unless they’ve met the same criteria you met to earn the badge.
Here, you are asking for a new badge for the “new” method because agents shouldn’t get the badge or a tick without potentially traveling to another city, etc. under the “old” criteria. Therefore, the badge would remain exclusive and relatively hard to obtain (sparse location and frequency), unless it meets the “old” criteria for earning it.

Gatekeeping Mission Days when there's been MD events in the past where I couldn't take my time due to scheduling conflicts with other events during an anomaly weekend. I swear some of you just complain and moan about any update from Niantic.
