Almost invisible Error message

Error messages flash on screen for a short time that makes them almost impossible to read, especially when not expecting them.
Today I tried submitting a portal and after about 30 seconds of watching that spinner thingie, something red briefly flashes on screen and I was back in the "Submit" dialog.
