Piecing Together the Plot: Introduction and The Various Nodes of the Multiverse

INTRODUCTION

For the longest time, the plot line of Ingress has fascinated me. Now, this does not imply that I have even the slightest idea what is going on, it just means that what I do know captivates me. The only thing I don't like about the plot is that it’s a difficult thing to learn more about. I suspect that some of this has to do with the depreciation of Google+, as I know that a lot of Ingress-related info was stored there. Not to be defeated, however, I attempted to turn to other sources, only to find that they directed me back to the nonexistent Google+.

After my attempts to research the plot line of Ingress were frustrated, I decided to compile a compendium of plot information here, in a series of forum threads. The only issue: I took a long break, and now that I’m back, I have no idea what is happening. I’ve already tried looking on Fandom, the Niantic project wiki, these forums, and many other places, and still don’t know anything about some plot points. So, I figured that with our combined knowledge, we could piece together the plot. There’s going to be a timeline for sure, but also sections about the different universes, various entities, the Exogenous, the properties of XM, faction ideologies over time etc.

1: NODES

So with that explanation out of the way, does anyone know what in the fresh frick is happening with the nodes? I’ve heard the terms “Osiris node” and “Nemesis Node” Thrown around. What does “node” mean? And are there others? What’s special about these nodes?

I can’t post everything at the moment but I CAN tell you I strongly suggest joining Operation Essex on Telegram. It’s a Cross-Faction group dedicated to the Story of ingress and Investigating this ‘game.’ It’s the perfect place for these questions!

As for what I can tell you quickly, the Nodes refer to different “universes” in the multiverse. Our ‘Node’ is known as Osiris, or Prime. The Original ‘Node’ is the one we ‘started’ in back when the Ingress Scanner leaked the game launched in 2012. In 2018 we moved (got forced to) our current node Osiris, when the Prime Scanner was released. For this reason, the original Node became known as 1218.

In each Node, most places, events, key people, etc are the same but there may be certain differences. If you find the Researchers in 1218 and the Researchers in Osiris you’ll see what I mean.

”Nemesis Node” refers to the recent Tessellation saga, and the Node that our Node’s Researcher Doppelgängers came from that honestly deserves a whole thread on its own. You can learn more by watching the Ingress YouTube channel videos from summer 2018 to July 2020. And check out the Investigation sub community here on the forums, as well as www.januslaboratorium.com/Tessellation

I’ve been meaning to get a new Ingress Lore site together. Might be time I start getting on that again.

  • I am consistently surprised at how little lore information there is on the Wiki. Lore-related info is either heavily glossed over or completely omitted.

It would be nice if Niantic released a refresher to bring folks up to speed on what's worth knowing and what's worth leaving in the past. I think that if/when the story returns, it'll be pretty slimmed down and much of the complex threads from the Redacted days won't be necessary for the broader picture.

Yes unfortunately most of the moderators for the wiki, wikia, and many other sites are no longer involved with the Investigation or Ingress altogether. and Wikipedia is just too much of a nuisance to push Lore-stuff through. And with a great amount of info permanently lost post-G+ shutdown it’s hard to find viable ways references for older stuff. Hence why I said a new site needs to be spun up and

    Is there any spoofer-free node?
