I would have liked to see the Drone layer show you which portals your drone has visited. I've been to over 5k unique portals and struggle to think of which portals I haven't explored with the drone yet.
The drones need more contrast as they are barely visible amongst a portal and within fields.
The badge colour needs to be proper platinum and onyx, silver and grey really don't look good.
I hear the concerns of people who are interested in using their drones for exploring remote areas as well as those who use them for gear acquisition. There may be an easy way to avoid having exploration drones somewhat protected from hunting: Only make the drone visible after it has hacked its current portal. That would allow drones to move stealthily but become visible when they took an action.
It occurred to me after I posted this comment that it may be all too possible to identify an individual's drone by stalking it. If they launch it from near their home then someone who cared to observe locations would be able to follow its movement and deliberately send it back when it got to a useful area. Allowing stealth moves but visible hacks would prevent this from happening.
I'd still like to see the "Deploy Drone From Key" feature, and it feels like that would complement this new visibility. If you want to redeploy to an area because the portal was destroyed, simply hold on to a key for that area.
Brian liked the idea that if a portal has 8 drones, maybe something cool happens. From their metrics, that is kind of rare.
Thinks the drone should always help towards sojourner, but still not help epoch.
Still admits theyβre doing a bad job at communicating with us, but theyβre listening to everything.
I think Brian heard the question wrong, but sounds like they could add some sort of layer to the intel map for drones. I heard it more towards uniques, but the question was specifically regarding drone locations. I donβt think anyone wants to see drone locations on the Intel map, but weβd all love drone uniques.
He admitted the rolling out of the scanning badges was....rough.
Said scanning was still a work in progress. Theyβre hoping weβll continue to scan while they work out how it works. He mentioned the idea of a dead drop being hidden behind a statue vs how itβs kinda just floating there currently.
edit: I also saw in the comments on twitter that there will likely be another swag pack drop at some point and he would look into international options.
"deploy drone from key" would also make the drone game more social because agents could share keys for starting portals in distant places (like key sharing that is already done for long drone jumps).
would it be considered win trading to accept a key from an agent of the opposite faction?
@NianticBrian "Drones Returned" should represent how many drones you hunted. I think drone hunting game would be quite interesting. For that reason, "Drones Returned" should not count up if an agent sent back their *own* drone. An agent could earn 24 counts per day by sending their own drones back intentionally. So, current "Drones Returned" could not motivate agents to hunt for drone of other agents.
I'm not surprise if it already has a plugin for iitc or are at least in development, to show the location of all drone in the map.
I hope it is made in a way that this is impossible, making the agent to really hunt (trought keys, map and drone) instead of just looking the map and going there.
This is also terrible if its working that way. Its basically recruiter badge all over again.
Also, the status that show how many time my drone was forced returned to me seems pretty meaningless. It's not an acomplishment and can also be cheated like this. Is just like having a status for "my portals/resonators destroied", something that will just stack up and its not my achievement.
I have keys from all over the world, many of which I picked up from the ground or were given to me by agents who traveled. Being able to send the drone to those places to explore would be really cool.
No, I'm pretty sure they meant Recruiter. The complaint is that people can get their stat up by attacking portals their own drone is on just to increase the number. The connection is that some players created loads of accounts just to earn the recruiter badge by themselves.

The data is not currently displayed on the Stock Intel map (nor personally do I think it should be). IITC doesn't use the Client API and therefore cannot have a plugin that shows this data.
Players using modified software could scrape this data from the client, however that would be breaking the rules in a big way.
People can just put drone one a neutral portal and capture it. This plus spoofing means easy badge. Niantic should fix it to not award any point if you return your own drone.
Is it just me or anyone else also bothered by the fact that the two new medals (Epoch and Maverick) are missing those pretty borders for Platinum and Onyx tier medals? π€
@NianticBrianΒ Thank you for NOT showing drones on the Intel map. Please, I beg you, please remove drones from key view. All the creeps have to do is collect keys near neighborhoods (or scrape the data), and see where drones first appear.
Look how much trouble they went to for guardian. They'll go to trouble for this too. They create databases to share personal information on others (IE Riot), and extra accounts (to hold keys). These bullies get giggles from intimidating people, and revel in scaring people into quitting Ingress. Think how much more intimidating they can be when they know where someone lives and works! Many agents have filed court cases, or reports with Niantic, but many more have not.
If drones must be visible, please make it only on scanner (an agent's physical location, or their drone view). They're supposed to be stealthy!
Deploying drone through a key would help, but would a new agent know that - before they give away their home/work location by deploying their drone a few times from it? (Same problem in making it invisible until it hacks.)
What gets me is the lack of consistency. Maverick looks different from Epoch, which looks different from Scout/Scout Controller, which look similar to the OG designs, which look different from the Mission Day redesign...
Every time they release a new medal, I think "okay, this is how medals will look from now on" and then the very next medal goes in a completely different direction.
Scout and Recon are the two best medals I have seen, hands down. They both maintain the classic design language while adding a sense of progressive complexity to better tiers. The two latest medals, on the other hand, don't have the same "oomph" to them.

That sounds vaguely familiar and for some reason brings bad memories π
Some neat improvements, well done!

Will we see the drones even if they aren't on a portal? Because it looks like so on the Niantic's news screenshot.
Brian said they're only visible if deployed to a portal.
just speculation, next (maybe) Lucida Drone Challenge..
Brian is basically doing a Q&A right now on twitter, jump on and listen

Anyone recording it?

I started a ways in.

I just want to see unique portals drone-hacked π
@NianticBrian nice new drone features and bagde!
one thing i did not like is new Max 8 drones at a portal limit, please consider increasing the limit.
I missed this... Shame

I think you meant Guardian, not Recruiter. And yes, forced drone recall stat is really pointless.
I have keys from all over the world, many of which I picked up from the ground or were given to me by agents who traveled. Being able to send the drone to those places to explore would be really cool.

Nope. I meant exactly as @Pangarban said.

Not so much missing as "they redesigned it". But yes, it bothers me that we lost the old border.
True. I am not sure how I feel about the redesigned borders though. π

Or bot up 8 drones and put them on the same portal and capture it
I just want all the medals to have a consistent design, or to be sortable on our profiles so that medals with similar designs are all together.
PREACH! I want the same thing.
What gets me is the lack of consistency. Maverick looks different from Epoch, which looks different from Scout/Scout Controller, which look similar to the OG designs, which look different from the Mission Day redesign...

I thought I can only see when MY drone gets returned. What's the point to see other players' drones getting returned?
