@NianticBrian please relese new drone we must buy and get we can hack every 20min i think lots of agents buy it when they like to have the medal faster. On events we get 5min insted of 10 the drone 1 have.
I think it might encourage creating farms in places people can't easily access. I'd prefer to actually explore with my drone, but not at the risk of it being returned to me. So if I drop my drone while on vacation and want to explore, I run the risk of losing that exploration option. Kind of a bummer really. It doesn't mean I'm against this because I know if I see a drone of the opposite faction, best believe it's going home. But to not easily get it going again thousands of miles away is disappointing.
The drone just became a tool to finish a badge vs using it to explore...
An interesting possible twist would be that sending someone else's drone back also returns your own. This would make deliberate drone hunting a bit less likely.
@Perringaiden I think it will make standing farms less likely. I know a lot of people like to park their drones on farms, and making them visible makes it more likely that the farm will be torn down to stop farming.
No, the owner's identity won't be revealed. But, you will be notified if your drone is sent back. Will have to wait and see if the agent name who forced the recall is included (similar to attack notifications). @NianticBrian did mention you'd know by who changed the portal alignment but I'm curious to see if that is also included in the notification.
I do wonder if there will be a scanner animation showing drones being bumped off, and/or if there will be a comm log entry <agent> has evicted a returned a drone from <portal>
I'm hopeful for more options in the future to modify drones to fit certain playstyles. A drone that can move freely from Portal to Portal without cooldown but cannot hack would help with exploring new areas without breaking the game.
Not a big fan of people being able to see drones now, but its only personal view because it means I can't leave my drone sitting on the opposing teams farms (to explain, we can't manage l8 portals in our team, not enough players, but they manage it easily at home portals).
I felt far more present in an area through my drone than through intel. Visiting portals individually encourages you to look at names and pics far more than staring at intel. Also you can access portal descriptions and other portal pics through the drone - neither of those are available through intel.
I believe I remember reading somewhere that part of the drone idea was to allow people to explore new areas. I mean, that's part of Ingress in general. So when I go visit Hawaii and drop off my drone, I could hop around, see new portals and continue to "visit" the island without actually being there, physically. Now, if my drone is in Hawaii and it gets returned, that exploration stops...
Choosing drone hacks for the badge seems to negate this concept. The one drone stat that requires virtually no skill or effort. Anyone close enough to a portal to see it on the scanner can increment this one every hour.
Drones being returned was always possible. I left my drone in London and moved it around for around a day before it got returned. Certainly in an area with high turnover, this won't change much.
I like the idea that each faction has its own drone model that is visually different. maybe it's worth making different models of resonators? for both enlightenment and resistance? different models of cubes, bombs and other items as well as different display of portals on the map?
I understand how it works. I did a distance run with the drone shortly after they were released and there were some areas where I would purposefully leave my drone overnight on a random portal or I'd stay up later to get my drone out of a high traffic area, for fear of having my drone recalled at 85km into my route...
It does, however, make the badge accessible to those with only a few portals in their playing area. It might take them longer to achieve the tiers, but they will get there eventually.

Hey! They brought back hunting!

What's the error message when the 9th drone attempts to fly to a portal?
Because it better be:
"Negative Ghostrider. The pattern is full."

This is really great. Thanks
Though, @NianticBrian wondering what the decision was made to have the Maverick badge not a Unique Drone visit?
Or is that something that is in the works? (DroneNet Mk2?)

Might be more of giving everyone a chance at those badges (even those with very few portals in range). Even if it might take longer
Will this layer eventually be visible on the Intel Map like the other layers?
Not sure what exploring with a drone means. Would it be the same as just looking at the map? I mean, you are not physically there anyways.
I thought drones were to help people keep hacking while we're in quarantine, but now more resources are spent on them.
@NianticBrian Is the Drone Net Layer meant to remain active on restart like the other layers, or is it intentional that it disappears.
Can the nickname of the owner be displayed in the remote Droneview Screen?
we ran some xf drone contests based on screen captures and this feature was requested before

@NianticBrian I dont see the pop up window when i earn the medal. Please resolve it for my account. 😪

Yeah, I think drone recall griefing will also have a negative effect on drone exploration. It can take days or weeks to exhaust a playing area.
I am a big fan of having another stat badge. It gives people more stuff to do :)
The new drone models are also very nice!

There are a lot of hidden things that occur when a "hack" is done, that we don't see.
And so it makes sense to me, that Drone Visit, IS a visit, only when a hack is done.
So i do understand that correctly? I need to destroy a portal to send the attached drones back?
I like the idea that each faction has its own drone model that is visually different. maybe it's worth making different models of resonators? for both enlightenment and resistance? different models of cubes, bombs and other items as well as different display of portals on the map?
Sure, it is always possible, but now it is also a lot more probable and with malicious intent.
Destroy, or capture, or
Flip it

Fun fact: I've unlocked it now, but the app prompted a bronze badge (the profile correctly shows the silver tier). /Cc @NianticBrian

My medal finally showed up on the second drone hack since this was released.
