(Proposal) More structures on ingame map
Like rivers and other's bodies of water, railroads, parks/green areas, etc...
We already see some of those on the intel, and I think it should also be on the game, since they're great for orientation.
The current structures we see (small squares for buildings) should actually be reduced, by removing the small one that have zero purpose (big ones and weirdshapes are helpful).

While I agree that more information might be nice, it would also require them to increase the opacity of fields. That change probably needs to happen anyway but without it, adding additional elements would make seeing fields impossible.
Alternatively, Niantic could implement a "Light Mode" for daytime play that uses the PoGo map (or a slightly modified version of it) which already shows things like parks and lakes.
adding additional elements would make seeing fields impossible.
How a railroad can obscure a field over it?
Brighter colors and noticeable things can have a weird effect that the contrast due to transparency makes the fields even harder to see. It's not an intentional situation, but a coloring effect.
By providing different colors and more distinctive background, highly transparent elements such as fields can be drowned out by the background.
As I said, if they make the fields less transparent, this becomes far less of an issue.
Note: Specifically, train lines should be visible regardless, and their lack is actually an issue for navigation.
Problem is, control field opacity is already too low.
This was done intentionally to ensure roads and infrastructure can still be partly visible under the highest opacity of the control fields.
Really difficult to change colours, to maintain the aesthetics of Ingress.
Railroads being missing is still an issue I believe.
I think it all depends on how OSM displays different elements for the specific library or framework used.
How cool would a satellite layer look?
One of the thing I like with Ingress is the dark theme of the map, I'd love to see it as an option for their other games. Although I agree that more elements could be displayed as rivers. Oh and I would love a layer that puts elevation lines when I'm hiking to a portal 😂
Just as a bit of history, this was the original field opacity for Prime during Beta.
Unfortunately, it had this effect when the layering was very very deep.
Yup, and a lot of people complained it was too high of an opacity, especially, when the same remarks were brought up many times for the classic scanner.
I don't remember for the beta of Prime if it was due to no limits on layering, or if layering was fixed at 8 layers
Or hurts the eyes.
Which it did. Where I believe it is the bloom effect, which was, and still is, too pronounced in many effects.
I have to reduce the screen brightness to its lowest setting for it to be comfortable on the eyes.
So, I just found out that the body of waters are already in the game! But they're so dark that are almost black, and totally invisible on the scanner, but I could notice the diference on my PC. So i think it could just be changed a bit to became more grayish.
It doesn't need to be colored like proposed above, that will just break the game atmosphere. Railroads could be just a simple striped line (- - - -) a bit whiter than regular roads, and the waters just need to be less black to the point to became visible. dam
A dam and a public zoo, with water surrounding the **** islands.
This is a public "water park", with some islands in the middle. I changed the almost black color to the same used to buildings and manmade structures.
I think the water was visible back when the pulse was in the game. Once the pulse went over the water area, it lit up for a bit. I don't have a screenshot, but I'm almost certain that's how it was before the pulse was removed.
What's the pulse ? 🤓
An pulsating radial wave coming from the center of the avatar, like an radar pulse.
Yes, now it's coming back to me too. Since now it's gone for good, I think it's time for a tweak.
Oooh I think it rings a bell indeed, I might have known that during early times of Prime, maybe it was removed before Redacted's end ?
Basically a strobe light in your phone that used to set your eyes on fire every few seconds.
Probably. On the firsts months of prime I was living in the midle of the city, so I don't recall it. All my oldest screenshots in this phone are after the pulse was removed, but before redact ends.
I liked it, even thou it was pretty useless. But I liked it when it hited the fields. I also miss the inner wave inside the fields. Was it always towards the same direction or coming from the portal that created the field?
I recall that the old "wave" inside fields depended on geographic size of the field. For larger fields, it was from the center towards the three edges.
My biggest complaint was actually the constant audio it 'caused' on the Effects channel, but I know some people had serious nightblindness issues with the constant change in brightness, and it caused others headaches from the strobing.
I read the title as build structures on the map like XM mind palaces... Fortresses... Spires... Portal constructs... Crystaline fields...
It was a cool effect, like many others that have been removed.
However it was removed for causing seizures, eye strain, headaches, migraines etc.
Those effects utilized the bloom within Unity
Again, it has to be carefully used, when used in high contrast areas of a game, because of the physical effects on people. In Ingress, it wasn't done well, so rather than fix it, easier to just delete the effect. :(
