[Proposal] New Mod
Hi! in the survey of dec 2019 i've sent this, and recently i've talked with another agent so i decided to post it here.
My proposal is a new MOD called "XM Drainer" which, instead of just decay, if there is any enemy faction's portal within (for example) 200mts it "drains" XM from it and auto-heals its decay, and enemy portal get's 2x decay. If there is several enemy portals, it select one at random and drains XM to auto heal itself.
What do you think?

Some sort of immortal vampire portal?
I could see it as a useful way to annoy the enemy and absolve yourself of the effort of recharging, but that's part of gameplay. I doubt they'd be interested in making less activity for players.
would be fun get some new mods.. i myself would like something to combine turret and force amp into one mod..
VR Force Turret!
That would be pretty cool
I believe the proper term for this is a furret.
Maybe furrets can only be kinetically crafted out of a force amp, a turret, and the usual fuel?
Can we please not have just "combos" of two mods in one? It's boring. VR turrets/force amps available ONLY from Kinetics and not hackable - count me in. Some completely new mods, again exclusive to kinetics - count me in. But two mods in one would just show lack of imagination and creativity.
How about a mod that increases the zap range? Would be handy in parks and other clusters of portals as a defensive option.
I like the idea! For some agents it won't be that usefull (because res needs an enl portal and the other way around) but it still sounds like a good idea.
Maybe a 2'nd version could be a hypercube mod, it will not drain the energy from an enemy portal but it keeps recharging itself. But i think that would be harder to implement because it should have a limit, could be seen as a "9'th resonator" that drops when it's empty.
What's the underlying desire for this auto-recharge mod? Is it just that recharging is boring?
I second Furret. This is the content we deserve!
The idea of having something new... it doesn't have to be a recharge mod. Something completley new is also fine for me, but we have gear/attack/defense mods, so a recharge mod made sence to me (game wise).
If they introduced a very very rare 'drone key hackable mod' i would also be fine with it.
Not a mod, but I've thought of something along the lines of a skeleton key / master key / blank key type of item that would be hackable but rare or very rare.
It's function could be that it is a blank key in your inventory that you could apply to a portal you are touching to make it a key for that portal.
It could help for gathering anchor keys when you want to go fan fielding or something.
Totally open to all of your thoughts? I'm sure there might be pros/cons/abuses I hadn't thought of.
"To have something new" I fully understand. It's just that the two presented options "specifically" are not great, which is why I was wondering about the underlying reason.
Things to consider when talking about Mods:
The recharge mod would replace player recharging and devalue most common mods etc.
The Furret would devalue Force Amps and Turrets completely, because it's the same effect plus you can add another mod.
That doesn't necessarily mean they are pointless, but for example a Rare Furret that is half the power of a Force Amp and half the power of a Turret, would give you an option to have 'some' offensive response without using 2 mod slots to get the similar effect, or allow you to place 2 Furrets to get the same effect. It becomes effectively a choice instead of a done deal.
Adding new mods is all about game balance, and historically Niantic's done badly with the Sponsored mods because they're intentionally overpowered.
Game crossover coming up. Transfer your furret from Pokémon go to have it defend your portals.
I agree, that's why i liked the idea of OP (it's a new type of mod instead of a rework). The problem is: what can Nia create without upsetting half the playerbase...
What about a "key piece", collect...i don't know...5 of them and then you can fuse then to form a "master key" and then everything you said about it xD
The only thing i can imagine about mods is shield with low defence but very high stickness or maybe some firewall mod which can be knocked out but provides flip immunity while installed.
"shield with low defense but very high stickiness" = A Link.
Firewall is a good name for that I like it.
So I'm a big fan of "hard to get to" portals. Ones where it takes a full day and possibly camping to get to it. With this mod, people could find a group of five portals that are very far away from the portal you struggled to capture. Driving up to a group of five portals and slapping that mod on those portals would destroy the portal that I worked hard to capture and would be completely unfair. Instead of matching the effort I took to capture that hard to reach portal, they can just drive up within 20 mi of it and guarantee that it will die. That would destroy a large part of the game for me and many others. It sounds like a cool mod, but I can instantly see some serious issues with it.
What ever happened to the very rare force amp or very rare turret or common versions of such mods? We have very rare link amps, rare link amps but no common link amps.
I'm still waiting and hoping for a cube mod (like ito +/-) or better yet. A key hacking mod.
Today in one park keys were dropping like bonkers from glyphs. In another park I'd burn out a portal and only have 2 keys. One portal gave me 3 Hypercubes and 1 key in 4 glyphs lol. Wonky.
Maybe a mod to strengthen a portal cluster if say 4 portals are linked together?
Wonder if we could get a multi hack and heat sink combo? Maybe half of its current output for both speed and hacks? Which would allow for a solo agent to add a shield plus get a few extra hacks (cough keys) from a portal? Make the mod obtainable from a kenetic capsule only? Charge to unlock the recipe?

Those are pretty good ideas for mods that require a choice. Especially once hacking goes back to 5 minutes cooldown and people wanting keys are going to have to make choices again.
I read all the mentions of "furret" with the Pokémon in mind, very funny to imagine this little boy defending your portal https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Furret_(Pok%C3%A9mon)

key hacking mod and multi hack & heat sink combo it's a great combination for those who like fielding
