So I have a measured loop I walk each weekend and a few times during the week, maybe it's just the shape of it but after about 6 or 7 laps it only appears to count half the distance. I'm glad to hear it works better for you, but I'm not seeing the same results.
Wow and you're an XM ambassador? Seriously the pandemic isn't the only reason I can't get out and walk, I have a seizure disorder that prevents long, unsupervised walks out and about, maybe you should consider your comments more carefully in the future, as that's not a part of my health I can "work on".
@mikfoss by 7 laps, do you mean that you're walking on a circular running track? In addition to keeping the game open, it can help to do regular game actions, like recharging a Portal for example. But also, if your physical location isn't changing, this might affect your distance walked. It's not the same as running in place on a treadmill, but if you're doing laps on a circular running track, that might also be a reason why your Ingress distance is off from your actual distance walked.
https://www.google.com/maps?daddr=33.500644,-112.170043 is actually the portal at one corner, it's kinda like a loop, but more a square, if you switch to satellite view on intel you should be able to see the Maryvale Walking Path I am referring to. I will give it a shot hacking portals as I walk, as they are usually recharged and I've got a bunch of keys so that doesn't always happen, and then I'll see if that improves performance. Thank you for the tip.
This round of the Optima Kinetic Challenge is a single Bronze tier Medal to start. We've announced that we're going to run the Optima Kinetic Challenge again in the future using the same Medal, and just a heads up that we already have Optima Medal art for Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers. I think it'd be a very good idea in the future, as Agents have suggested here, for the next round of the Optima Kinetic Challenge to unlock more than the Bronze tier Medal.
Right now, however, I really think we should keep this round at a single Bronze tier because it's our first foray in 2021 at bringing back Global Challenges and event-based Medals, we learned from Agent feedback the last time we tried to do this, and we're closely monitoring the situation abroad.
Do the L6 XMP, L4 Power Cubes and L4 Resonators, which are the materials of the JARVIS Program, 2 Hypercubes Program and 8 L8 Resonators Program, have to be items of the specified level, not the same level or higher?
Getting the bronze now, on the later event will raise the badge location or will it keep where it is for those who got it now?
I mean, is there any advantage of doing it now rather than in the future? I think the position should be locked for this one, to show that we did if in th first event.
Do you have something against platinum and onyx tiers for the challenges / events? Would be awfully nice to have these event badgers match our current badgers. If you haven't noticed, some agents have the want to push harder than the rest. And some really don't like the gold "cap" on badgers.
I also think so, as the medal in the current given color implies this is a challenge on a medal level.
That's why for now the medal doesn't use the original color for gold, but the base color for bronze (like the previous nemesis challenge) as this will continue in the future using the original color for the gold tier
Platinum and Onyx Medals that can be used to unlock Access Levels 13-16 would need to be pretty difficult challenges, but even so, trying to accomplish that in a 10-day event seems like not the best idea.
I don't think this is possible without dev work in the background. If Ingress detects a new badge tier, default behavior always is to put the badge in front. If you participated in older Global Challenges and earned another medal during it, your Global challenge medal would still jump to the front with a new tier.
You might say it's different for events held at different dates, but shortly before the second Hexathlon, Niantic held a second Field Test in San Francisco using the same badge as for the first one. If you didn't get Elite in the first Field Test but reached it in the second, the badge also jumped to the front, despite it being held at different dates.
I like the infographic, but you've left a vital part off of the recipes. The leveled items used in the recipes are a minimum level. So the recipe for Hypercubes should read "10 L4 or higher power cubes", for example.
> To accommodate for Daylight Saving Time ... UTC ...
That correction is unescessary for most of the world, a week too early for Europe, and in the wrong direction for the southern hemisphere. Just sayin'.
@NianticBrian Will progress of this event be taken for next challenge with more tiers as well? For example, for Bronze I have to complete 4 kapsules. If I complete 3 kapsules this event, I will have to complete 1 kapsule the next event to get Bronze badge, or 4 again (provided the tier is the same)?
Comments
You need to complete 4 kinetic capsules programs during the event period to earn the badge.
If you complete 3 or fewer programs during the event period then you will not earn the badge
Thanks! Now I will pass on that. I'm trying get 6 onix badges in a row.
Using an ADA to make a Jarvis? Doesn't seem worth it to me.

@kidobarrett the item levels should be minimum Levels, for example Level 4 Power Cubes or higher, or Level 6 XMPs or higher.
Great news! Thank you.

a'm ready! 😀
I thought I would never return to the forums this soon.
Thank you for finally bringing back challenges.
Happy that an earnable badge is coming after like 7 paid seasonal ones.

Gold and silver don't have?

So then maybe colors like the Exo5 challenge? 😁.
I'm not sure about others but I'm working towards all onyx badges. Or at least obtainable ones. Sucks to be stuck with Gold Seer.
Will we be able to continue from where we left off after the event? Or will the stats be reset when the optima challenge reopens again with new tier?

As an Operator for tracking and managing shards coming into Oklahoma... I guess I had to do more effort than that.
I was looking forward to an event with capsules and a real challenge, not this time I guess 😔
Excellent. Thank you for this answer. I think you guys are handling this responsibly and the right way. Looking forward to the event!

TL;DR: Don't count on the location being locked 🙈
I don't want bronze, I want gold.
Will skip the challenge, don't want having that bronze on my profile indefinitely. Will participate when all tiers are played :)
