In 2014 they teased about L17 lvl ....
So in 2014 they teased about Level 17 by completing a lvl 8 glyph hack sequence in order to unlock it, wasnt this cool ? why was this idea scrapped and not implemented in the game and maybe more higher lvls ?

Heh! I posted the same thing a couple of hours ago: https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/comment/133240/#Comment_133240
When I saw that way-back-when my first response was, "Bring it!" Actually, it still is.
The Ingress Report is one of those unique things that were lost in time. Few are who still hold the media cubes.
They definitely need to get back to something like the Ingress Report as a way to build excitement about the game and game events.

and those lvl 8 media cubes :)
Current player base makes it not possible to do that IMO. It's not a very popular game as many years ago.
That certainly seems like a conundrum: Ingress isn't popular so they can't do something which helps it to be popular.
I miss them too, casual agents felt like more part of the game in those and all that :(
why was this idea scrapped and not implemented in the game and maybe more higher lvls ?
Because it was an just idea and got reworked, probably became recursion.
Or just a little joke.
The report went away in 2016 because of contracts not being renewed. This was way before Prime was a thing.
Plus there are more players now, than there were when the Ingress Report began, and the IR made it more popular, something we need right now.
Yes even at that time the contract was not renewed. I don't see it more likely to be launched again currently. Theories like "there are more players right now" are self-deception in terms of Ingress not PoGo. There definitely are more accounts but how many of them are real human beings without alt accounts and are they still active in 2021? Being a 2013 founder player even mentioned in Ingress Report I can feel that the MAU is decreasing in multiple areas. As more advanced anti-spoofing technologies are not developed for probably cost saving reasons how could we expect those promotion things to be online again. Someone should wake up.
This is the first time that I've been told that Ingress is more popular in 2021 than in 2016. Do you have any data published by Niantic that supports this conclusion? More accounts and popular do not equal.
The Ingress Report did not "begin" in 2016. It began at the start of 2013 when there were less than 5000 players, before it was even out of Beta.
Yes, the screenshot I uploaded was made in 2013. We were talking about the situation when it was ended, that is 2016, aren't we?
how come the owner of the portal is blue and the reso's are green 🤔
No, I specifically said:
Plus there are more players now, than there were when the Ingress Report began
And at the start of 2013, when IR #1 came out, that was true. The IR helped increase the player base, which is the point. For the same reason it was added then, it could be added now.
I think the ingress report could be done pretty cheaply... And the benefits would outpace that cost.
My problem with the ingress report was always the fact that the lore was indecipherable so when they referenced it... it scrambled my brain. I was also annoyed by the fact that they kept making claims that the game was going to be affected by the results of anomalies and events in game when in reality extremely marginal changes were the result of in-game events.
I say bring it back but have the lore make sense... Excitement can build when people can understand things. I also say that events should have real effects in the game like for instance this resonator deploy event is pretty good despite the fact that we have no in game medal for it :(
Ingress support would be a great place to announce new gameplay which is probably the one thing ingress needs more than anything. Recursion should mean something perhaps. If Susanna Moyer is too expensive to pay to host it I'm sure they could find someone serviceable for a reasonable price.
The Ingress Report, should be brought back. Perhaps the new Ingress CM should front this, if the costs of bringing back proper actors is "too expensive"
As for L17 to L24, as suggested in another thread, to bring in a skill tree, I still feel this is a bad idea.
Just because the power gap between new players, and L17 to L24 with a skill tree will probably not enable new players to keep playing.
However some balance between New players and over L16s can be found.
Could even argue that Level could go up with every Recursion Level Plus.
With the benefits for each successive level is:
To be able to craft their level Resonators, but still only be able to deploy only 1x R8 or 1x L9 or 1x L10 ... 1x R24, etc
Plus a %increase chance to hack Very Rare Items per level, eg 2%
These are just my ideas, they might not be popular
I'd love to see an Ingress report that was about actual game mechanics and events, and not so much about storylines and lore.
I always felt like the storyline and the game were two completely different things, since the storyline just never shows up during day-to-day gameplay. Even with special events it always felt like, "Hey, let's do this special event and change the rules for a week or two... oh yeah, I guess we should get the actors to say some stuff to explain why."
"I'd love to see an Ingress report that was about actual game mechanics and events, and not so much about storylines and lore."
They had that. It was called "Ingress Obsessed".
Actually it was Sarita Hayes' New Agent Dossier.
Well, about that, there is this ongoing event about deploying, and numbers tell that by the end of event both factions will end close to 1 million deploys each.
Let's say each agent gets 500 deploys during the event. That would make a total of 4k agents, 2k on each faction.
Having in mind that I myself deployed 2k resos and know several agents that deployed a larger number... I'd say the player base is as high as it was, and that's very optimistic from my point of view.
The current "active monthly players" is artificially depressed by COVID though. "Right now" isn't really what I was talking about, but "Once we can all go back to playing again".
I think there are a lot of players who are choosing (or are unable) to actually play in an event that requires lots of movement. But they're still people invested in playing the game "when they can".
