(Repeat) Feature Idea/Request: Media Locker
So this idea has been mentioned multiple times in the past but I think it needs to be said again. Similar to the Key Lockers that store keys outside of the normal inventory space, I feel that a similar product needs to be added for Media objects.
For one, media objects are used in the hexathlons, special events, challenges and more. Many agents keep them as a souvenir (similar to souvenir keys) of the event, but these items can't be stored outside of normal inventory so they're inevitably stuck in a Capsule collecting XM dust bunnies while still taking up inventory space.
Secondly, for those Agents involved in the Tessellation event you know how many Media objects we receive nowadays, and how often some of the linked videos/images/texts update, even days or weeks after originally receiving them. Also, the near-innumerable amount of decodings we have done in the past give us Media objects as a form of "victory" medal for that decode. I like having those objects as a means to remember the 'fun' times I and the rest of my team had in decoding. However, again these media objects end up stuck in a capsule until I dig them out again to check the links or refresh my memory on what they attached media is.
Third, if the Media Locker has similar properties to the Key Lockers, it won't be able to be dropped. That way the media stored in it can't all be lost at once like clicking Drop on a capsule at the wrong time.
So, Niantic, I am asking for Media Lockers to become a real thing. In my mind, it would be an independent purchasable item similar to the Key Lockers. They would not tied to the pending Subscription Service. Even though it would be a niche item for fewer agents than the Key Lockers, I still feel that there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile.
Anyone else feel like this could be a good item to have?

I'm not collecting them but it's a clear win-win situation: player want something and are willing to pay for it - company want more money. So why don't do it?
Put it the same way as keylockers, with a limit of 5 and people will buy the 5.
Its an kind of item that serves to no purpose after you saw it. Shouldn't even be counting on inventory, but since it is, why not make a profit?
I have saved every media item since I joined so this is of interest to me
I would love to see such a feature. The media’s are taking up a lot of space and it would be good to store the media’s outside inventory space.
👍👍👍💡
I agree, this is a good idea for people who want to make some media collection. Like memorable portal keys, but memorable medias. Although Niantic's chance to get more people buy media lockers has gone: they needed to release them just before the Tessellation started, with its metric ton of medias.
I'd also like to see the possibility of a locker that could be purchased and hard fixed (like the key lockers) to keep rare items in.
One per agent, so it doesn't create a huge pay-to-store advantage but allows you to keep safe a small collection of valuables.
I think there would be a market for that too 😊
Niantic gets revenue and happy agents!
I also think this is a good idea, and definitely something I'd pay for.
Even if it was able to have 10 medialocker that won't be considered advantage. Medias are useless after watching, and just occupies space for those who want to collect. Most agents just delete it without even watching (that don't speak English).
Giving us a medialocker (for money) is a easy fanservice, that I believe there is plenty of people willing to for it, enough to generate revenue to pay the programmer to copy and paste the keylockers lines and change it for media 😂
The fact that media (stil) exists and take some space in our inventory is a fine example of bad design.
See, a few days ago i received two emails from that other niantic game, wich included codes for redeem some items (ALL useful, despite my level - suck it, l1 xmp buster!), and that brought me more into that game lore than any media I downloaded in all these years playing Ingress. Mostly everyone know who is Candela, Blanche, Sierra, and so forth. Only a handful knows who Misty Hannah/ OLW/ Light Steinman is.
tl;dr: There is a better way to present Ingress lore to the players. Ask for a media locker is endorse an issue, not a feature.
@Truthseeker @NianticBrian After an event like Tessellation and after having redeemed a significant amount of media, it would not be fair to have to eliminate them only for the space in our inventory; It would be ideal if they could take into consideration the idea of the Media Lockers so that the agents who participated during the Tess have a space to keep or collect these items that many will bring back memories of almost 9 months of effort.
I bet I would buy more items if there was a CMU locker.
I prefer more keylockers than Media Lockers... :/
more key lockers = more money ? why say no to this...
Well... Niantic can integrated some keylockers into the new suscription C.O.R.E.
Key lockers affect gameplay, because people need keys for operations, recharging strategic portals, etc. For this reason there does need to be a limit to the number of key lockers available.
Media lockers wouldn't affect gameplay in the same sense. Yes, those people who have collected hundreds of media will have space for hundreds more bursters, but that would just put them on par with the majority who don't collect them. So theoretically I don't think there needs to be a limit on the number of key lockers.
Please do introduce this popular feature!
Why not just make media not count towards the inventory? Its daft to have it count when it does nothing in game
The problem is that inventory causes server load, and server load costs money. I seem to remember it said that increasing inventory by a certain percentage causes a higher percentage of server load increase.
They're meant to be seen and disposed right after. It's player choice to keep them, and if this is going to mess up their inventory, it's not Niantic problem. But, is really weird that Niantic never showed interest in exploring this monetary opportunity. Media's are useless for combat, so a media locker will bring nothing else buy joy for the user and money for Niantic.
But, now that subscription is released, with cashbacks of CMU, a medialocker will be basically for free, so it's probably never gonna happen.
Pic is a few weeks old, but my opinion for a Media Locker is obvious.
What size you're thinking? 🤔
Wait... what are you doing with all that? Is not enough just one?
Toast. Toast is the reason, the best reason XD
Honestly I'm gonna be modest and say I'd be happy with just one. But I mean if the devs are gonna spend time designing this thing I don't know why they'd put a limit of how many to buy.
With keys I understand the limit, but with media being useless idk why they'd stop with one. It might incentivize people to start collecting media. I used to collect all the FS media but that started digging into my toast space so I deleted it.
I'd LOVE a media knockout system. I imagine it would be a TON of dev work, but something where when you pick up a media, it checks a box in a media menu where you can always access that media in the future even if you get rid of the media "item" you received. Could encourage media "trading" which I don't think would be a bad thing.
You mean like an album? Harry potter Wizard Unites had some sort of pokedex, with many books and pages to fill.
I think it would fit the lore, under an Investigation menu, with P.A. Chapeau giving research missions, and medias and other things to collect.
I have another idea now. What if add buying limit of Key Lockers to 10 or unlimited, and make them "can also store medias"?
Yup! Pretty similar to HP:WU's system except that you would only need 1 media to fill the "image" in. Also, great idea tying it to P.A. Chapeau! I love the idea of an Investigation Board!!! @Truthseeker, what are your thoughts?
First off, how do you even get that, second, why do you have so much toast lmao
He got on the April fool's from 2018 and put them on a Quantum capsule.
