Make Ingress Prime a "Paid" app

Now, I'm sure this won't be a very popular opinion within the community, but I feel Ingress Prime should become a paid app within the google play store and apple app store. It doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg, but should still become a paid app.
Perhaps $1 to $5 range.
Why? To help prevent from folks creating multiple accounts for backpacks and such, also, would create revenue for Niantic from Ingress, outside of purchasing things within the in-game Ingress store. Perhaps Niantic could use these funds to create more events or something outside of anomalies.
Just a thought, don't hang me for it. lol 👾

You don't have to pay again to create new accounts with paid apps. You only pay to download the initial app. This would do nothing to stop backpackers and multiple accounts.
Hmm.. fair enough. Not sure how we could stop folks from creating backpack accounts, though it is an issue that needs to be resolved at some point.
Niantic could just give us the option of paying to increase inventory size. Like in Pokemon. Would greatly reduce the use of backpack accounts.
@RuzukiMay I like where your head is at, though I wouldn't want Ingress to be 'Pay 2 Win' by any means. Perhaps make this a reward for recursing? Each time you recurse, you obtain 25 more slots of inventory space? (or something to that effect)
I think this is a fine idea, making Prime is paid app so we don't use such buggy and rushed app
@Agent48 - good idea... paid apps never have bugs. ;-)
I'd pay for [redacted]... not for Prime
We're definitely exploring more monetization options to keep Ingress healthy while not interfering with gameplay. However, to your point about multi-accounting/botting that is definitely something we want to limit not only in Ingress, but across all Niantic games. We also don't want to create the expectation of a premium experience that we can't deliver on just yet.
An important thing to keep in mind is that we'll receive a lot of feature and security benefits at the end of the year when we integrate our new backend sever. Hang tight.
Facial Recognition Sign-on per account with duplicate checking would reduce backpacks.
@NianticMac That sounds fantastic! I'm stoked to see what more you can bring to Prime, especially with the integration to the new backend server(s).
I know you probably can't say, but I'm going to ask anyway, any idea on an actual date Redacted is getting removed? Also, once it actually is removed from the google/app stores, those of us with it installed, will they continue to be able to use it, or will *all* of its services cease to function?
@DisasterRawr Care to elaborate on your reasoning? Prime is so much smoother in nearly every aspect over Redacted at this point, all the recent updates have made it super easy to use. Been using Prime since it launched in November (was a redacted user before that on the original app), now when I go into Redacted, it feels archaic, I can't figure out the menus, etc.
I challenge you to force yourself to use Prime for 2 weeks without touching redacted at all, then after that 2 weeks, try using redacted. I bet you'll feel the same way.
@Majeye
If I could look at for more than a minute without feeling ill, I might.
If someone showed me videos of all the link failing, crashing, hanging, and non-responsive UI elements having been fixed, I might.
If they rebuilt the UI on this "fancy new engine" to look and respond like redacted, I would.
Until then, I won't.
@DisasterRawr When was the last time you tried to use Prime?
@Majeye, had a crazy amount of keys to shuffle, sort, and re-sort into caps on May 24th... thought that maybe the Prime view that showed my inventory at the same time as the capsule inventory would be helpful, which it might have been, but any time that it could have saved me was negated by clicks not selecting capsules or keys... instead of the key or capsule i touched being selected, nothing would happen, or sometimes, the capsule would bounce, or sometimes it would slide to the next capsule or key, or sometimes the app would crash, or sometimes my entire phone would reboot. So I went back to [redacted] and uninstalled Prime again.
@DisasterRawr I can completely understand the frustration when juggling multiple caps to sort keys, however, I still challenge you to try prime only for a couple of weeks, and then go back to redacted. I'm willing to bet you'll struggle just as much as I do now when I go back to redacted. (the more you can force yourself to use Prime, the better... redacted is on the chopping block)
Deberían de aumentar el limete de ítems de 2000 a 3000 entre llaves, resos y armas y mods no lo veo suficiente
I will miss Ingress when [redacted] is gone, but I already miss Ingress. I've not been a fan of almost any of the changes to the base game. The loss of [redacted] can be my final straw. I'm ok with that. However, if my list of requirements comes through, I could be convinced. I don't know what element of the new colorscheme or UI or whatever makes me physically nauseous, though, so it'll be a careful and deliberate process, not some cold-turkey two-week ****-challenge. Thanks, @Majeye.
@DisasterRawr Just trying to help is all. Reading through other threads, Niantic has stated they are working on improving the UI visibility, so hopefully you get some of the things you're requesting.
Niantic had it right with [redacted] then lost it with prime. Ingress players aren’t into all of the kitschy cartoon characters, as their demographic tends to be more mature. I too am mulling over, whether to set the phone down, when [redacted] is finally retired. Simply sad.
Though I'd rather keep all the former-ingress-app-generation agents around, I completely understand that conforming to something new when you're used to something completely different is a hard change.
I, for one, switched to Prime immediately when it launched in November and haven't really looked back. It was rough in the beginning, but a lot of the recent updates have made Prime super awesome and convenient to use, more so than Redacted ever was.
I'm willing to help show some tips to Prime for those that would like them, ENL or RES, doesn't matter, it's still just a game to me, and I feel the community needs more folks to help others use the new app, regardless of faction.
Prime is not friendly for entry phone, it has too many special effects, highly depends on CPU and memory efficiency.
Even in flagship phone, it makes phone heat(please think Tropical countries) and battery killer.
Also Prime is too brightness, event adjust screen to darkest but feels eyes blind.
If redacted goes I don't play ingress and I know many agents who feel the same.
@croquethammer read through the forums and look for the Niantic posts. It isn't a matter of "if", it's only a matter of "when" at this point due to the server integrations coming to Prime. They won't be able to support Redacted. Rumor-mill says Redacted goes in September, but its just rumor, I can't verify an actual date as I haven't seen an official Niantic post of when it's going away.
@Majeye @RedSoloCup announced it's retirement at the Tokoyo anomaly after party www.geeknative.com/64947/niantic-confirms-the-end-of-ingresss-scanner-redacted/
@Majeye I would like to be able to get used to prime, but as I can't get past the spinning globe on location acquired a good percentage of the time it's a bit of a challenge. This appears to be a location based fault, as my son with his all singing and dancing phone has the same problem.
Was prime designed by people who actually get out and play the game? I doubt it.
Do you think $1-5 will prevent someone from creating multiple accounts? Ha! I would pay dearly for additional inventory. I just won't cheat.
@Mernie9 I'm guessing you didn't read through the entire thread. That's ok, I forgive you.
@ManiacD thank you, heres the actual clickable link for those interested:
Ingress is a paid app by choice.
Most players do so by purchasing ONLY Key Lockers
This is a one off payment, and while it doesn't necessarily pay the bills, it is a small acknowledgement of their work.
There are other things that can be bought for real money, but they are more optional than Key Lockers
I would be more than happy to buy more key lockers
I have the purchased set of five and the freebie from a couple of years ago. I would also cheerfully cough up for another 500 or 1000 in inventory spaces. One time I did buy a package of resos when I was running low and hacking wasn't generating them quickly enough. There would be monetization for you. Inventory.
