Scanning isn’t about gameplay. Scanning is about development. The sooner Niantic admits and then compensates us for that work, the better it works out for both parties. If I knew that for every scan I uploaded, I provided 2 minutes of potential Ingress development, I might be more inclined to scan. And, for my work, those two minutes should also earned me 200cmu or even 50cmu, whatever it might be.
Everyone’s a winner, my work to help develop the game and other Niantic games is rewarded. But, so far, it’s been anything but that. Back to my statement earlier in the thread about Niantic treating us like workforce...
@ofer2 Thank you for your answers, but again ... The game is not progressing. The gameplay stands still, there are no significant innovations or development. And the pandemic has nothing to do with it. Look at the next game that is not very popular here - Pokemon Go. How much is new for what people are happy to pay or what the same people are happy to play for free (in parallel, involving those who are willing to pay into the game).
No need for your team to hide behind a pandemic. The developers of Pokemon Go don't do that, and they have sales of in-game items and activity in the game despite the coronavirus. You just need to develop the game. Start with media capsules. And then make a really interesting battle.
If this does not happen in the coming months, then the game will end completely. The number of active players is constantly decreasing. Really in nia do not notice this ???
I agree now with all real events canceled for who knows how long we need something to look forward too that we know will come, they need to launch the subscription in the not too distant future before more players quit so that would just mean less potential buyers, along with media capsules and maybe more kinetic capsules? i know egg incubators is a huge money flow so why not try this in ingress. Im still puzzled why there is so big gap between archive badge in the ingame store? Put up one or two badges and rotate them every month, see how agents will react to this atleast give that option for those that like collect badges in their scanner and at the same time everyone who buys them supports niantic and ingress.
The "supposed" compensation, as mentioned obliquely by both ofer and Brian, is providing a justification for why Ingress should continue to exist while running at insufficient revenue (AKA 'a loss' but they won't admit that).
Personally, I'd like to actually have a worthwhile way of giving them money, instead of them trying to steal my time. I work enough hours in the day to be paid well, as it is.
One last note, of the 30 topics on the front page of this portion for the forums (General), only 3 have any sort of response from someone with Niantic. One of them was a non-response that basically said, sorry, I don't know anything.
If this is what Niantic considers communication with their community, I'm baffled.
The big one that comes to my mind is the lack of care towards anyone who had issues with the iOS 14 bug, a bug that stopped me just a couple of months shy of my onyx sojourner. Speaking of baffled, I'm baffled I still even play the game after that. You want people to play more eh.... Sweep it under the rug, they'll forget about it, it doesn't matter to them, they don't need to know details....
We don't have a Global Community Manager. So the responses we have gotten are the personal efforts of members of the team. @NianticBrian is the product manager, and does have more important tasks. @ofer2 is an engineer who again has more important tasks. @NianticCasey is the forum manager, but handles most (all?) the Niantic communities, and is less focused specifically on Ingress, and the complexities of Ingress development.
I think it's worth adding that @ofer2 would actually be a perfect community manager for Ingress - intelligent, insightful and honest posts with no hint of PR spin are what's needed here, and that's what Ofer2 always delivers. The best move for Niantic would be to hire an another engineer and promote Ofer to 50% community manager and 50% engineer/manager training up the new engineer.
Likely the fact that he's not paid to manage the community, is why he's not gone insane, and the fact that he's an engineer actually working on the products, is the reason why he can give specific and useful information. Don't break his streak! 😁
My comment is directed at Niantics inability to communicate in general, not to any of their staff posting here directly. I appreciate their involvement with the forum, but it doesn’t mean I can’t be frustrated with Niantic and/or Ingress.
Maybe Not for portal scanning, but for scout controller of a portal, id have been more willing to do it if they made it so that, as scout controller, you could get q an extra hack on top of the 4 original ones
Thanks for all the kind words, but the best thanks is when you all enjoy the game. We know that its been frustrating at times, but we'll continue to try and make things that will delight you all. Hopefully you'll see some of the stuff we've been working on shortly *fingers crossed*.

That's why I specified only 50/50 :-)
Can we have an item in store called "ofer2 supporter kit" with most the money from its revenue to go directly to @ofer2 ? :D
So only half insane. :-p
