I appreciate that some agents in areas around the world, where there are currently no, or less severe restrictions will be unhappy. However there are a great many of us in Europe and the US who could not have hoped to attain the highest level of the badge because of the restrictions on movement and the dangers to people’s lives it could cause. Therefore i think this is a sensible and responsible decision by Niantic and those in areas less effected by this Pandemic should (in my opinion) be supporting this as a good decision to safeguard lives and prevent irresponsible play, instead of moaning about the loss of a badge. Life first, game second!
Also a bit of a double standard for the drone event to still send people out to add pics and scan portals for a small amount of extra AP just because it suits your needs for free labour for future updates. Not that I mind doing these things as I play but once again just the the double AP the week before people are still going to go out so the badge and competition might as well have stayed. I'd say about 90 percent of places with restrictions still allow people to go out for walks and exercise so I think it's a moot point to claim the pandemic is stopping you. If you can't avoid a few people in a park then that's your issue.
Thank you for making adjustments to the EOS challenge.
@All: Please respect the decision Niantic has made regarding the challenge. While it would be nice to add a fresh EOS-badge to your profiles (yes, I'd like to have gotten it too), please try to imagine how it feels for agents in lockdown areas that are not able to participate. Being stuck in lockdown, unable to go out and participate, not having a way earn the badge. Is that fair? How would you feel if it was you in lockdown?
While you might be able to go out and play doesn't mean others can too. Let's be civil 🙂.
I don't care too much about the medal, I just want there to be an event.
Niantic haven't mentioned why they chose not to tailor the event towards their new toys, which would enable everyone to participate, whether in lockdown countries, or in countries like New Zealand which have eliminated covid-19
People correctly complained for the lock-downs in their countries and their inability to fully play and assist their faction in order to win the event and it was wise from your side to remove this part of the event, but as it is well known, almost all the players love badges and they can't wait for the next event to come, in order to earn their next badge on their profile.
You could have left the badge (since you announced it) and just remove its tiers for it to be rewarded for being active during Eos Protocol event, like you did last September with the Avenir badge. Yes I know that one was a global challenge with a goal required for the badge to be rewarded, but still if the goal for the Eos badge of 5 million points (I think that was the number on the original post) were required for it, I believe people over the globe, would help to manage reaching the goal, and during the seconds phase, you could have drone hacks challenge, so everyone would be in a position to help reach this event goal.
To concluded, thanks for the ap bonuses, even though most of us won't be able to fully take advantage of them.
Finally a real event, new medal, something to plan for and get a little excited about Ingress. Nope, nevermind, someone might be left out, can’t have that. So much face palming with this game anymore...
I subscribe, it is not just a question of the pandemic, it is about not being able to move between locations due to restrictions imposed, what kind of game would be fair, and the same as going to play football and the other team playing 11 against 9, please understand that i also wanted the event a medal and i love this game, but how would i have a chance? For me it is just that question, it is true that I would try anyway because I love ingress. But it would be something rong that I would do, but would do.
Here's a thought, remove double credit for recon badge from phase 2 as surely you don't want to disadvantage a large portion of your player base who were plunged into the bottom two wayfarer rating tiers and don't get any credit for agreements.
Niantic can only do it wrong here. No matter what decisions they make. Damned if they hold the event as planned, damned if they don't.
EOS would have brought some breath of fresh air into our play. But since it is foreseeable that some (stupid, careless or whatever) players will not follow the local rules because of a virtual medal in their Ingress Profile, I can understand Niantic's decision. (Except of course for players in whose country/region Covid-19 is under control. They are of course neither stupid nor careless when playing Ingress. The earth does not only consist of Europe and the United States).
I suggest to sell the EOS badge in the Shop. The badge has certainly already been created. Niantic could then donate part of the revenue from the badge to the WHO to support the fight against Covid-19. That would be a win-win situation, so to speak.
Take care guys. I hope you and your loved ones are save and sound.
You could’ve just make the badge available both by purchasing and fulfilling tier requirements. Those in lockdown can still have that medal via buying and those who would’ve grind for it still have a reason to do so, i.e. to save one or two bucks.
Pogo has events so why not ingress? And this one requires no group gathering or anything unsafe. If some localities are locked down, it's optional. Not fair? No less fair than other parts of the world being able to dine out.
They could have just done a make up week 2 months later for the tiered badge. stats continue tracking back from where they were paused. They could pause the badge between phases but couldn't organize a make up week or two?
While this result was not one that I personally preferred, I very much appreciate @NianticOfficial and @NianticBrian for listening to agents' opinions.
Lockdowns are a political decision that factors in economic damage and public scepticism, the existence of a lockdown is not an accurate measure of the risk of spreading the virus by playing an outdoor game.
There are NO countries where you are safe from the pandemic. There is nowhere in the world where unnecessary travel does not increase your risk of catching and spreading the pandemic.
It was only necessary to change the requirements for the medal, since the event would be divided into 3 parts. He participated in a phase of the event, bronze. He participated in two phases of the event, silver and if he participated in the three phases of the event, he would win gold. This event had excited me but ...

This is so stupid. ****.

Ugliest than all Nemesis Challenges? Impossible.
Totally unfair

Terrible decision. Way to change things last minute when people have already made plans for this. Niantic = joke company.
For all those complaining "oh but it's OK where I am"
This is a global game. Players spend small fortunes on it to make sure they get all the badges. Players invest a LOT of time into it.
It isn't fair to exclude some and allow others. Either the game is for all or the game is for none.
It isn't all about YOU. It is about ALL of us. OTHER PEOPLE MATTER.
Hi buddy, here is the screenshot you forgot to attach :)
I don't care too much about the medal, I just want there to be an event.

Well, Niantic, if you're trying to make everyone happy, you've failed on all counts. This is just embarrassing to watch.
Very funny. You just implied that 3 days ago. Here you are.
@NianticBrian Just so it's clear, no Ingress events until the whole world is free of the pandemic and not just Europe?
People correctly complained for the lock-downs in their countries and their inability to fully play and assist their faction in order to win the event and it was wise from your side to remove this part of the event, but as it is well known, almost all the players love badges and they can't wait for the next event to come, in order to earn their next badge on their profile.

I think this is really ****, a lots of Agents were looking forward for the first Event since Februar, and you just cancel it like that
Why do you even keep the game running then? Some people can't enjoy it, so by the same logic nobody should.
After so many years, we thought we've seen it all, but you guys found a creative way to disappoint again.
Niantic's way of killing the game. Good job.

Lol I thought Ingress players were a little tougher. In the meantime, PoGo has a couple of events scheduled for this weekend.
Sadly Ingress has more people whining who will still go out and play those pogo events.
Niantic can only do it wrong here. No matter what decisions they make. Damned if they hold the event as planned, damned if they don't.

Once the event is canceled, show as compensation what the medal for the 8th anniversary will look like. :)

You've totally missed the point.
