Yes, but I never seen a rent service of lunchbox. You buy your lunchbox (one time) and you keep it forever. If you're a big eater, and need more space for your lunch, you buy another lunchbox or a bigger one, and that goes on.
That's a terrible analogy. 😉 Here's a better one: I own a house that is only so big, but I can rent a storage unit down the street to keep all my extra stuff in. If I want to store more stuff, I rent a bigger unit.
Because my house only has 2000 square feet and I've acquired a few sheds that hold another 600 square feet... and it would be against TOS to buy a second home. 😆
I understand your analogy but honest player doesn't do that... I would like buy something... a bigger bag, I like the idea like pogo, expand the bag until 5000 items, something like that
Indeed, that's exactly my point; two options that have been proposed by the playerbase are to allow us to purchase: 1) permanent inventory capacity like in Pogo or WU, 2) temporary increase tied to a monthly subscription.
Of course, I recognize that many players are opposed to either one of those options, for gameplay balance reasons. Myself, I'm torn on them, because while I want to support the game financially and my account is slowly getting filled with souvenir keys, the option of backpack accounts is out of the question. Other suggestions have included media lockers, boost lockers, or increase the inventory cap for recursed players.
Fact of the matter is, Niantic has chosen to provide extra storage via a subscription model. Is it cost-effective for us? that all depends on what the cost is and what the storage is.
Personally, if they're not giving us 10c per slot or better, it's going to be a waste, but I'd really like to see Ingress survive longer than next summer.
Given the changes in VR shields and the increase in normal shields, we need to hold 600-800 X8s to take out a decent farm. But doing so nixes our ability to really build. So an additional 1000 slots would give us more flexibility in play to do both while not damaging either capability.
People will always want more space, but having enough space is relevant.
well rumors say subscribers will get like 500-1000 more inv space.. if thats worth it or not im not sure.... not really like idea pay / month to increase inv storage...
They should give us both options: e. g. 500slots bonus for subscripted player and buyable packs of 50 extra slots, up to 500. This would expand the inventory up to 3000 if the player buy it all.
Something like this will give more versatility to agent build it's inventory they way he want.
I've heard rumours from anywhere from 100-2000. Because 100, 500, 1000, and 2000 were the values on that survey from a long time ago. I wouldn't call them confirmed in any way without a Niantic voice in the matter.
Why not simply make the subscription 1000 slots then? You might want it cheaper and skip the subscription but that's the whole damn point. Ingress needs to actually bring in money, so why would they provide an option that undermines their subscription?
Because it works in those games because they have a large playerbase. If it would work here, they would have done it long ago.
When you have 20,000 players, paying $10 once doesn't do much.
When you have 200,000,000 players, paying $10 once pays for the entire company for a year.
For Ingress to survive, we need to at minimum, pay for the salaries of the developers. Even if there's only 10 of them instead of the far larger PoGo or WU teams, it's still more than a million dollars annually. And then there's the server costs etc, marketing, events etc.
Ingress won't recover until the current player base is able to cover costs so that they can justify expansion and more development. Which may mean we're doomed, but there's no point in actively undermining it.
like my permanent key capsules and avatars bought along character badges i hate the idea to pay x money each month for higher inventory. I like the system pogo has and that game has no subscriber option yet for higher inventory ?
If that's the case, monthly fee for few extra slots won't do the job. This subscription need other main advantages with the inventory expansion being an extra, not the only service.
To your point about undermining the subscription is that there are people who won’t want a subscription. If it’s anything above probably $3-5 a month, I won’t subscribe, plain and simple. Even $5 will be a stretch, but letting me buy 50 spaces at a time, I’d be into. So they either get $0 from me or maybe $15-20 over the course of a year...
Huge pass for me at $10. Hopefully they’ll offer permanent storage upgrade options. Granted, I get by just fine with 2000... We’ll have to see what they offer up to us....

The subscription will come with expanded inventory space
This is another thing niantic doesn't understand. People would buy the bag extension (as in pogo), niantic did not allow it.
E.g. +50 for 1 €, extend max. at 5000. All the top players would buy it now.
The subscription is going to expand your inventory. Same effect, but simply raising the cap.
Key lockers are a 1 time purchase and is effectively enables one to expand their inventory by 500
We are encouraged to believe that the subscription service will enable even larger inventories.
But with monthly fee.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.

You need to get out more.
You can rent anything these days.

Why dont you keep your stuff in your house?
Because my house only has 2000 square feet and I've acquired a few sheds that hold another 600 square feet... and it would be against TOS to buy a second home. 😆
Buy a bigger house to live in forever with all your stuff.

What is the point of giving extra space when all you are going to do is max it out and then complain that they should give you more space?

I like the inventory upgrade in pogo of 50 each time and u do as many as u want over time when there is need u buy them permanent.

Because it works on Pokemon and Harry Potter, so why take a risk on an already compromised game?

if its gonna be tied with the google/apple service then my bet its like 10-12$/month or similar what other games takes for this kind of service..

How much do people pay for Netflix or other streaming and music services?
And how much do they use them, compared to playing Ingress?
For some, the value is far more than the amount wasted on TV shows they don't watch.
That's why some people prefer to buy physical copies of movies and series.
