[iOS 14] Tip: Double tap the back to launch Ingress
So, since we all upgraded to iOS and got some issues, I thought I'd show you guys one of the best things iOS 14 can do for us Ingress addicts.
You can actually double tap the back (or the side, that works too) to launch Ingress! This is how you do it:
First we create a shortcut to open Ingress. To do this, follow these instructions:
- Create a shortcut to open Ingress. Pull down on your home screen, and in the search bar type "Shortcuts". Launch that app.
- Click the "+" sign in the top right.
- Click "Add Action"
- In the search bar type "Open"
- Under "Actions", choose "Open App"
- Next to "Open" click "Choose" and select "Ingress"
- Click "Next" in the top right
- Enter a name, I kept it simple and entered "Open Ingress" (note you can now also ask Siri to "Open Ingress")
- Click "Done"
Now that that's done, we can add that shortcut to the function introduced in iOS 14, the "double tap on the back". To do this, follow these steps:
- Go into "Settings"
- Navigate to "Accessibility"
- Under "Physical and Motor" select the first option, "Touch"
- At the bottom, click on "Back Tap"
- Select either "Double Tap" or "Triple Tap", depending on whether you want to double or triple tap the back to launch Ingress
- I selected "Double Tap" and selected "Open Ingress" under "Shortcuts"
- Once selected, exit out of settings. You can now launch Ingress from anywhere by double tapping (or triple tapping) the back!
Enjoy!

just for fun
I’ve tried the feature to perform screenshots, but had to disable it because I found myself accidentally triggering the back double tap more often than I thought I would.
I have a (bad) habit of tapping the back of my phone while under stress. I quickly noticed that this feature was not for me.
Man, I just tap the icon once, on Android. Works for me, no setup needed.😁
Hahaha. Yeah it is not like I can’t swipe the app switcher to get to ingress 😅 this just works everywhere. I thought it was cool, but it took some tinkering which is why I thought I would share that process :)
