Game is lacking resources currently (badly)

Apparently due to a 4500+ link link star in Europe, the game is unplayable in many other locations including the middle of the United States.
My question is why? Is it the cheaper servers Ingress is on? Did someone turn down the resources again? Or something else?
This really shouldn't be happening.
I've rebooted my phone twice. I've loaded Ingress countless times now.
I get a black screen. Then sometimes I get to see the map. Sometimes I see portals.
It's really getting frustrating. It would be less so if I weren't some 200+ miles from home attempting to play ingress.
@NianticBrian any thoughts? Any way to get the app working again?

Confirm lag, black screen when try sign in....
Completely blank scanner for me. Maybe Niantic needs to lower the amount of incoming links if one op is going to crash the game, globally... 😅
Same.
Too bad. We still have 50000keys. We want a world record.
A single linkstar on the other side of the world shouldn't make the nearly unplayable for all.
It's a resources/server issue. Similar to the hexathon that didn't work out so well just after Prime was only scanner...
Isn't @ofer2 an Engineer for Ingress? Maybe he has the power to fix it?
😂 Love it.
Once all players are banned, all ops are cancelled because they crash the servers, Nia can simply shut down the game. With the new Niantic profile, players will know which other games their friends play and find them there. 👍🏽
it's frustrating. will the servers improve?
70 odd upc from onyx pioneer. 200+ miles from home. And the game stops working. It's been basically non-functional for over an hour.
Do I continue to wait for it to be fixed or even a response from someone at Niantic? Or do I just say F it and go home?
If any Niantic codemonkeys want to know what error I get when the game pretends to load...
I did the touch thing to copy the error coffee and here's what's going on.

bravo niantic!
Also out of town, going for unique visits (about 900 away from onyx explorer), and in the middle of a banner, and this happens.
This is simple sabotage!
Adding a completely senseless function (niantic profile....) but basic functions do not work.
Back to the basics!
Besides: The frogs are able to burster our portals & links away?
Anomaly Dresden?!
At this point just a response from anyone on the Ingress staff would be awesome.
But now we know how to **** the server.
What the ****...
Server Crashes...
The error is evolving...

🤷🤷🤷🤷
And how in blue blazin' balls am I getting attack notifications? Apparently not everyone is affected.
It's like a ddos or like whenever a cpu cycle frees up someone can log in and perform some actions. I got a couple more caps in then it died. Granted each capture took about 30 to 45 seconds to confirm.
We're aware and working to fix. Thanks for your patience.
Hey @NianticBrian, all major cloud providers provide auto-scaling options for server workloads. Not sure if the codebase lets you add more servers dynamically.
without sense... 😑🤨
@Th3MazeRunner are you still seeing a black screen if you restart the Ingress app?
I still waiting... now it begins but I do not look at any portal ...
@Th3MazeRunner if you wait a few seconds, does the Portal eventually load on your Map Screen and are you able to interact or hack it? Or does the Portal fail to load completely, even after restarting the Ingress app?
Everything is loading now. Charged a few portals.
Maybe I'll go back out later.
I just started the game after a few minutes it seems to work again.🤞👍
This isn't the first Starburst to do this and I am sure it won't be the last. You would hope that after nearly 8 years, this wouldn't happen.
How many accounts did you use to hold all those keys?
I started seeing issues at 230 pm cst. I attempted known fixes for potential slowness. I checked elsewhere before I posted. Over 2 hours passed before any responses from Ingress / Niantic.
Based on prior communication from you and others at Ingress / Niantic, the server(s) for Ingress are monitored. Is it just a simple ping check to see if they are up? Or does it have any health checks for latency or checks/reports when xx amounts of errors are viewed via logging or other logging/reporting software (splunk/dynatrace/ect.)?
For future issues, what is the best way to report such an issue so a human is aware of it and can start to look at the issue as well as *communicate* to the user base?
Things I'd definitely like to know before subscription(s) are released for Ingress.
