Portal scan to slow spoofers?
How about a forced portal scan before you can attack/use flip card at each level up?
Or every X hours of gameplay? Plus some action that appears on COMM.
Unsure how easy this would be to emulate. Just an idea.
I'm not keen on scanning portals, however it might be fix?

Portal scans require specific hardware.
Not all phones are able to scan so you would get many false positives.
This won't be implemented since there are many agents using hardware that doesn't support ARCore. Here's a list of supported hardware: https://developers.google.com/ar/discover/supported-devices
Additionally, scanning is restricted to agents L8 and above who have chosen to enable it in the settings. Scanning is supposed to be voluntary.
Maybe a forced glyph hack? I know that basically just makes the spoofers have to add one more step into their program
The idea of a forced something after some gameplay should be approached with caution: portal scan limitations are mentioned above. What if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and the app forces a hack/glyph? Detecting spoofing will be a never-ending game.
Agree with everything already posted. There should be ways for this to be stopped without changing the way we play.
Hrm, yeah phone hardware's a pain.
Back to machine learning then to detect em.
Everything above, plus not every portal is suitable for scanning, what’s to stop a potential bad actor to walk in a circle in their home, adding a bad scan to the portal.
Generally what you're talking about here are "Authentication Challenges." The idea being that some account seems suspicious for some reason, so lets ask the account to do something thats generally hard for bots to do to prove that its a real person and not a bot. The main problem with these authentication challenges is that its actually very hard to create one that will actually separate a bot from a person accurately. This is especially true when you try and make the task something that will not infuriate actual people using the game. In the case of portal scanning, I dont know, but I dont think we have a good way of separating out scans generated by a person vs generated by a bot. There are probably ways to do this, but they sound pretty complicated. All this isnt to say that we arent looking at ways of stopping spoofing, but that theres often a lot more complication than there seems to be (even with the hardware issues aside). Thanks for the idea!
Portal scan? You should know that there are ton of players who cannot scan portals due to missing AR+ feature.
