Yes, i dont understand how they bypass the comm filter? same website, same words more or less everytime im sick of comm spam notifications on my phone now
The Deadwhatever spam I got this morning has a URL for a thread here in community somewhere. I didn't check the actual post, figured it might be a spam post to their website.
IIRC they broadcasted about the Intel's improvement and linked to the Dev's Diary. They did that as a test of the Niantic's spam tolerance because the content itself isn't against ToS so the only variable is how many repetitive messages can one account sent before being identified as spam. E.g. maybe some accounts sent 3 messages and most of them weren't banned but accounts that sent 4 messages got banned. Then they knew Niantic's tolerance is 3 messages per account.
Information on spam ban threshold help them use minimum accounts to do sufficient broadcasts and make the spamming process more efficient.
Many communities use comms to contact new agents with a URL for them to find up more / sign up if they're interested.
I've seen spammers bypass URL filters by giving their URL as something dot com - it's still annoying to receive and not a huge inconvenience for anyone who actually wants to buy gear.
Please Niantic stop the com messages I get them almost daily. Maybe set a minimum ap score before you can massage. All of the accounts that span me have 0 ap.
Could the COMM portion just be locked out to new users until they have done some menial task or training? All of the troll accounts are just devoid of any stats.
Make the process of creating an account just a little cumbersome to cut down the trolls but not annoy actual new players?
There are ways to automatically check shortened URL's to see the end destination without opening them, but that just moves the cat and mouse game to a different spot, it still happens.
Simple keyword blocking in the comms should be able to resolve the issue one would think...
Then again, having working comms in general that allows you to see current activity would be better than trying to block what little comm spam there is.
I blocked a few C7H* agents in the comm (not it's full ign respecting that pos's privacy) in the comms; however i still get notifications from that POS.
Could you have a look please?
I understand that it is not possible to block that site (as in NTD) but as stated before, it would wise to block urls in the comms.
I have a good tip removing these bots from the game, but i will not disclose it here, PM me please.

Plus, how onerous it is to report a user now, most of us are just blocking them and moving on.

Can't they just block any url?
I suppose they were blocking...
I mean automatically.

Fortunately for us and too bad for them, Niantic is anything but consistent :)
How many messages do you get a day?

That won't stop them. Neither will blocking URL- They would just use TinyURL or something to generate new ones.
Suggest Niantic could maybe block any URL shorteners as well?
There are ways to automatically check shortened URL's to see the end destination without opening them, but that just moves the cat and mouse game to a different spot, it still happens.
It's easier than that, websites are not easy to build/move, so a black list could get the job done.

Do people actually still buy gear?
if i zoom out to 50km or more i still see comm spam so its still not solved over 2 months now ongoing...
I don't really know, I guess not. Spam is easy but has a cost anyway, if they were selling stuff they would not require spam.
But I guess we will never know :/
Hello @NIACHAOSMONKEY @NianticAkshay @NianticAndrew @NianticAustin @NianticBC It seems there is a bug in your code.
