What's Scout Controller?
Hi,
I uploaded a portal scan this morning and now discovered a message on the Intel com, saying:
You claimed Scout Controller on <portal name> by uploading more Portal Scans than any Agent.
I do not see anything related anywhere in the scanner com for this. It's the first time I see this. Does anyone know what this means? Is there an Ingress game mechanic behind it?
Cheers,

Thank, was not aware of the new statistic :). I think the message should then also be displayed in the scanner and not only on the intel map. I rarely check there 😉.
This is interesting. I get scout controller by doing more scans on a portal than anyone else. So will the number go down if someone else comes along and scans it more than me? Or is it a thing that once you've gotten scout controller on a portal, you keep that number?
I am trying to figure this out as well, I have claimed it apparently when I did my upload.
So if two people scan the same portal at the same time, the first person to successfully upload it gets the Controller increment even if they were not necessarily the first person to actually scan the portal?
As of this morning, I notice that there is now a line in the scanner profile for this. I'm not sure if it counts portals that we scanned from the release of the feature, or just starting from yesterday?
There is an entry in my scanner that corresponds to the "You claimed Scout Controller..." Intel comms entry. However' it's glitched. The time and position in comms matches, but the text is an attack notification from a couple of days back and doesn't display correctly.
On a very related topic, I'm somewhat amused by how Niantic releases new features without documentation and leaves us to figure out how it actually works, especially the limits. Take, for example, Drone Mk I. The basic features are described, but we had to depend on "Agent Science" to figure out the rules on portal visibility (all portals in S2 L16 cells within 500m), how to do key jumps, and absolute limit of jumps (1.25 km).
We are the beta testers...
if scout controller dont give medal i dont see the big deal about it....
Perhaps this is their incentive to encourage us to go out and scan different portals, rather than the same handful over and over again, in pursuit of the scout medal?
We're also the QA, tech pubs, and sometimes technical support :)

😂😂😂
They should start from `Scout Controller` badge then, no one actually cares about single line in statistics 😅
15 uploaded scans, all 15 from different portals (13 from before the Scout Controller was added).
Only the last 2 (uploaded yesterday) pop up in scout controller.
Same for me. Guess I’ll need to rescan those older ones
So there's a badge now, and with ridiculously high numbers.
Strange they cant/won't backdate scout-controller. Portal scans haven't been around that long, surprised they didn't have the data for it.
Also 30k unique scout-controller portals for the Scout Controller Badge?
And Scout is just 6k and not necessarily using unique portals, this is 5x as many and unique.
Not sure how they can say the calibrated it to Pioneer. Pioneer is 20k UPC, and you can do more than 15 per day (the average daily limit if every scan winds up counting to scout-controller after the 30 day timer, which is about 5.5 years continuous ****).
This isn't meant to be bitter or anything, I just don't understand how that isn't meant to be insanely difficult. Am I not understanding something about his post?
insanely difficult and odd timing considering the global pandemic we’re currently experiencing.
This medal seems not to be added to your medals upon completion. I have 127 and badge only require 100.
another discriminatory badge besides scout which requires arcore (google) certified hardware. Besides, how it is counted is discussed in another thread. Still a bit confusing
Yeah - and we that live in the outskirts - and already have scanned ALL portals already.. **** do we do now??
I tried to scan a portal twice and upload now but all it did was keep going through frames, over and over. Never completed but locked up Ingress. On the 3rd try of another portal I re-installed ingress and chose upload later and it appeared to work. But how do I upload later??
Look under Settings. There should be a section titled "Portal Scanning", or something like that.
