If there was a tiered medal for Drone Flight Distance what do you think the levels would be?

I'd guess 3-10-20-50-100 but it would be ridiculous hard to get to 100 without the right amount of portals in the right places.

100 would be really unfair. There's few cities in the world to do that, and doubling it after recursing would be probably impossible. 50-80 is a more realistic aproach for top and not be limited to major cities.
5-15-25-40-50 (or 80)
I think this a good medal for being part of some of the global events. To make 50km youre gonna need about 100jumps and thats 4 days doing it every hour, 8 days if you sleep 12h a day, using the first 2 days of planing of your deploy location (like traveling to nearby huge city),
Do you think a medal for unique portals visited in a single flight might be more viable?
I'm not sure if they're able to calculate this yet. But just a ripoff of the explorer badger (unique drone hacks) should be a new standard badge, and it also fit better as a global event. Its gonna be hard to decide the tiers of the KM score to fit everybody, because 50km is currently impossible in my area, over it will be probably impossible for half a century, but this is a walk in the park for tokyo/NY...
I imagine 50 km would be hard there too because of portal turn over resetting your progress
5-10-25 or something...
2-5-10-20-50
That's pretty generous. My best is 11 before I hit a dead end
Probably a better way to explain what farthest distance means for a drone first
The word farthest explain itselft.
The status is calculated from the initial portal to the farest one it visited without recalling.
As it's the distance between 1st portal and where the drone is, not the sum of all jumps 25km is already hard to achieve .
If it was that way you could just go back and forth on the same 3-5 portals and got infinity.
I like 100 for onyx, onyx is supposed to be difficult and 'unfair'
I wonder how many places there are in the world where you can even do 100km...
I don't think there is anything near me and I'm in Seattle.
The bronze should be very easy to get. 50km for onix is fine according to me. 50km translates to Manhattan to Bronx 2.5 times (to and fro) which is difficult.
5 - 10 - 50 - 100 - 250
This is how it is probably implemented in Ingress but it is hardly self explanatory.
Let’s deploy at portal A, fly 5km North to portal B, then fly back to portal A and fly 5km South to portal C. One could argue that furthest straight line flight distance is 10km (A to C).
There is no mention in stats screen that distance is measured from starting portal to furthest portal by measuring a hypothetical link length between two.
Furthermore, there is no special visual designation for the starting portal.
Furthermore, there is no special visual designation for the starting portal.
Your brain do this, since one can remeber where he made the initial deploy.
About the meaning of the word furthest I won't argue since english isn't my native langage, but we already know how this status work now.
I don't believe 250km is something possible in our current era.
5, 10, 25, 50, 70 or 100
I've scoped out my entire city (Melbourne, Australia), the maximum we could achieve is 70km. Melbourne is a large city with lots of extended suburbia, but even within the suburbs, there are a number of places where jumps can't be achieved.
Theoretically, 100km could be achieved if the drone could see more portals and jump to portals further away (at a distance of at least 2km).
I'm not a fan of the 100km for Onyx, but that's a figure that might be plausible for Niantic to put in (and make sense with the rest of the numbers), but not necessarily achievable.
I can see Wayfarer now, instead of Pokemon Go players begging for stops it will be Ingress players begging for portals so their drones can jump
That's actually a good strategy from Niantic, to grew the portal network.
50 for gold, anything less would trivialize it for anyone in a metropolitan area. Onyx is supposed to be hard or time-consuming.
You do know the distance is measured in a straight line from the first portal it is deployed to, right? There's absolutely going to be dead spots where you can't push a drone any further than that without some assistance from link jumping
I'm sure there will eventually be iitc plugins that show the exact optimal starting and ending portals and drone flight paths for any given region. Once these are known those portals will be battled over like guardians just to kick back players trying to fly their drones maximum possible distance. At least adding something like the possibility of drones traveling across links less than 5 kilometers introduces some randomness to that equation and may even make the drone boundaries wider.
Said IITC plugins have already been written.

Is it automated?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but flight is the distance from the first portal and the last portal it was recalled / destroyed (2 points).
I think this will never get a badge. If they ever provide a badge for drone, is gonna be unique hacks, probably 5000 to 1000 for black (1 to 2 years).
Yes. The farthest drone distance is the distance from the first portal and the last portal. Your farthest distance should be upgraded once you UP your previous distance. The portal needn't to be destroyed.
There is no portal between cities, so I understand 100km is the highest medal.
In Tokyo, we were able to reach a distance of 100 km in 13 days.
It's not fun to reach the highest medal in 13 days.
Imagine how fun would be to travel 10.000km to be able to reach it.
