[Idea] Global First Saturday!

Given that Niantic has shown they can adjust events for timezones, and the current Covid-19 pandemic, it's might be in everyone's best interest to make a compromise for First Saturday. Lets make a Global First Saturday for the next few months, that is a compromise for people who still want to play and progress, but without the requirements of an actual gathering.

  1. No Hack Portal.
  2. Min 5k AP gained.
  3. No photos or gatherings required.

Basically, if you play during the midnight to midnight local, of the First Saturday of April (and May and June) and make 5k AP, you get a First Saturday point/medal.

Keep the tradition alive, but make real steps to allow for safety and local restrictions.

It's more that people in Ingress are more likely to discount the dangers for a badge. It's happened plenty of times before. Remove the requirement to choose between safety and medals.

By not holding an IFS. It's that simple.

There are also plenty of agents out there who don't care for IFS and don't want the medal. You'd be forcing them to forgo playing for that day. And then we'll see the outraged calls on the forums and support site again to "Please remove this medal from my profile, I don't want it".

I can get behind the idea of not having the group photo during these times. Niantic have the data to show how many ppl attended without having to gather them in one spot for a photo. So we don't necessarily need photographic proof.

However the entry requirements must still be in place (ie hack the registration + 5k minimum). Otherwise random people who aren't interested will get a badge they don't want (if there is no registration) and what's the point having a FS without people doing any game actions (if you didn't include the 5k min).

They could also reduce the time to 1h to reduce interaction time, and requiring less people.

The AP doesn't need to change. 5k is a ridiculously low amount already. You can do it by fully deploying 2 portals... It should be 50k!

Isn’t an IFS without the gathering simply another normal day of Ingress?

We registered an FS event in my area, but made the registration/restock portal accessible from the park's parking lot (in our area nearly all attendees arrive by car anyway). We have told people to hack the registration portal and then go away to play solo elsewhere; the group photo, if needed, will be ten people standing 2m apart from each other, or possibly ten people holding their scanners out of car windows.

(We had a lovely plan for an IFS in a dense commercial area with shops and restaurants, we moved to a park to decrease the human density.)

It can be done. But even with that level of caution we may cancel.

(Our county has closed the schools, library, etc, banned gatherings over 100 people, and strongly discourages gatherings over 35.)

Normally we are quite social at our First Saturdays. Next month, we are running away from that.
