If you pick a capsule back up, it will still have the name you gave it.
You will still see the name even if another agent picks up the capsule and drops it again, even though the other agent won't see your name. If they give the capsule a custom name while it is in their inventory, you will still only be able to see the name you gave it.
Seems a bit a bit of a silly way to do it tbh, youd think they would just use a keyword block on the renaming option to prevent it.
Considering ive seen keys and resos dropped specifically to make the shape of mens genitals, anyone whos going to be make rude words laying around can do it quite easily and make a bigger rude word with not much effort
I agree it would be a good thing so people don't have to name the capsules again after I drop them.
There is myriad of other ways to offense someone in Ingress, comm being the first example. We even have a portal called "**** monument" (I don't know why the forum thinks this word is an offense and replaces it with asteriscs tbh, it doesn't even begin with F letter) 450 kms or half a country away. Still, plenty of local players have keys from it, duplicate them in Quantums and drop them under couch portals of their opponents. And I do think this is part of what makes Ingress special: people can be themselves here, honest, bright, with character, restricted solely by the TOS and not some stupid word blockers.
So I believe this is made this way not intentionally to "prevent rude naming" or something, but because it could take much more time to implement persistent capsule names. I also remember they said they repurposed part of tutorial code for that. Just a hint which makes my point more believable.

No!
Capsules losing their names when dropped is by design.
I hope @NianticBrian can help us capsule dont lose name when we drop.
As has been said before it is to stop players leaving rude words lying around.
