Didact Challenge - Support Staff Useless

GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Finished the Didact Field Challenge

Had to go out late on Sunday night to do so after repeated attempts to get support to acknowledge how serious the GPS Jumping bug is, and that it had wasted so much time during daylight hours.

@NianticCasey I now have expect all the Niantic support staff to be fired!

The repeated canned responses to your players across all games, shows the utter lack of being able to read English.

As I start work early, I MUST be in bed no later than 9:30pm, and the outstanding GPS Jumping bug, meant that on Sunday night I had finished the last few fields at 11pm, which of course meant oversleeping and being late for work.

I am beyond pissed off now. I expect the support staff to be fired, as they are incompetent. Unless it is for player cheating.

In Fact I wouldn't be surprised if the "actual human team" is just a chat bot, when considering the frequency of canned responses

  • RostwoldRostwold ✭✭✭✭✭

At the risk of going off topic, your support staff seem unable or unwilling to escalate difficult issues outside of their scripted responses to people who can actually take decisions.

I have an issue with that other game where a support team member has literally incriminated Niantic, saying effectively 'yes we know we're breaking the law, but we're not going to do anything about it'. Given that the offence carries up to a 2 year jail sentence, that really ought to have been handled by someone with access to a legal team, not someone reading a script and guessing!

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

    Hostile? No

Grumpy, yes. That is what happens when outstanding game breaking bugs prevents completing tasks in the allotted time, causing lack of sleep on a work day.

And having repeatedly reported the bug, only for Niantic Support to become a chat bot with scripted responses, that I heavily doubt there is any real people actually responding to tickets

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

I expect Support to acknowledge the bug, and escalate it to be hotfixed.

It is not unrealistic to have expectations to get your personal targets done in the allotted time you set aside for video games.

What is unrealistic is the goals set for Didact, that, most players have no way of achieving gold, at 800 fields, which significantly reduces player engagement.

Expectation to change the parameters for the RLA, as requested ever since they were brought into the game, and instead be shafted with spending ridiculous amounts of money for a few ULAs, is disgusting.

I have tried to provide Niantic with constructive methods to improve player engagement in these types of events, it is no wonder fewer players are playing now than there was before Christmas

Just because your phone is bugged is no reason to get all hostile on the support staff. If you're the only one having this problem, the problem is yours not theirs. Why not tray contacting your phone manufacturer about the GPS issue?

  • I had same bug weeks ago, but I reboot my smartphone and problem was solved.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

There are hundreds of people having this bug, across a range of devices.

And to suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

ONLY occurs with Ingress Prime, never with Redacted, or any other game, like Pogo, Wizards Unite, TWD, Delta-T Jurassic World, etc etc

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

@Wallflower14 Yes, tried rebooting device, it came back.

Factory reset of the device, still occurs

    Tried another device, still occurs

Asked around, and happens across different brands.

Alright, the op decided to make a new topic after their posts in the other topic https://community.ingress.com/en/discussion/9246/the-atrocity-that-is-didact-field-challenge

Where we gave advice on him for planning. He mentioned nothing about a GPS jumping bug just the lack of portals...

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

@Azhreia In the context over the last 2 weeks has shown, time - super limited.

Work hard getting to completing said event done during allotted game time hours - fail

Failing because of game bugs, which have already been reported last year, not not fixed, reporting them again, is like bashing my head against a wall. or stay way way late to get it done is called a deadline, and failing is NOT an option when so close.

I am sincerely now hoping that I do not get sick before travelling to do the Hexathon.

Honestly, I have been super patient, and respectful for years, but patience has its limit.

As has also been stated by Vanguards who have left the game.

Some say, should have done 800 fields in 2 hours are in a place where it is doable, not for everyone else.

I respect that they can, but they cannot respect the utter slog that others are having to do.

And lastly, to reiterate, again, the GPS jumping, is not GPS drift, these are two completely separate things

I want to apologize to any support staff that work the ticketing system, if this topic has offended them.

But this event, is a failure on many levels, and is the same as what happened with EXO-5, except with EXO-5 I got sick from being out late many more work nights, that this time I set physical time limits. Work life must come first, except last Sunday night, as for reasons already stated.

Ok I'll bite after fielding last night. I had GPS jump on me but only when I was switching out between Google Sheets and Prime to make sure I was getting my keys and linking in the correct order. The jump would happen for one second, then return normally. I didn't get speed lock at all from it and I wonder if the little jump is a limitation on the OS. I use Pixel 3 which is on Android 10.

  • There are staff that work the ticketing system? 😂

Every interaction I've ever had with support goes like this:

me: I followed all the steps on this support page, but am still having the error.

them: ok, try the steps on <exact same page I referenced>

me: sorry, but that does not fix the issue. What else can we do?

them: we checked, and the issue was resolved for you. Closing this ticket.

  • RostwoldRostwold ✭✭✭✭✭

If you don't like the ticketing system, there's always twitter...

Player: I have common problem X

Them: DM us so we can tell you the solution while hiding it from everyone else.

    Payer 2: I have common problem X

Them: DM us so we can tell you the solution while hiding it from everyone else.

Player 3: have common problem X

    etc.

Technically, there has been a post on the forums since October 2019 that multiple agents have commented on, myself included (been able to duplicate it on more than one device). It's been asked about on the different release versions posts over the past few releases as well. If anything, we are just starting to think that some of the many issues / bugs with Prime are "normal" as they've been here for such a long time, and no one from Niantic has bothered to even respond to it. It's not the end of the world, but it can be quite annoying when you are attempting to put up fields or **** fields for CP, that's for sure.

Also, the Search bar at the top is a wonderful thing.

As for @Grogyan being abusive and hostile towards the support staff, that's something that Niantic should deal with,

But sheesh man, that's beyond helpful on any level. Next time, give yourself time to do whatever it is you are trying to do. And before you feel the need to take it out on the support staff, remember they are human just like both of us are. They are just doing their job. It might be substandard to your level, but you need to be better about not being a total a-hole. You can easily escalate an issue other ways, other than abusing someone.

This event wasn't as hard as you make it out to be. Maybe you didn't have the time required to complete it. But that isn't anyone else's fault. It's a challenge. Not everyone is going to get it.

  • At the risk of trying to actually solve the problem, I've noticed that the jumps happen most often for me near bus transit hubs. Could bus mounted hotspots be throwing off the wifi triangulation system?

Video evidence of the GPS Jumping bug

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Problem boils down to two things.

    1) Modern mobiles support GPS, Glonass, Beidou, and Galileo constellations, with sophisticated methods for greater positional accuracy.

    2) Niantic have implemented spoofing countermeasures for the cheaters that stay at home and don't venture outside.

What Niantic have not taken into account is that, modern mobiles have a positional accuracy of less than 1 metre. Which then triggers the spoofer detection.

Obviously I hate the idea of spoofing, and work hard to report stop rogue players that are clearly spoofing.

As reported by my friends on both factions, this is really scarey, that Niantic's Spoofing Detection system is going to ban legitimate players, just because they have mobiles with super accurate GPS antennas, and sophisticated mathematical equations to provide super accurate position. Less than 2m, though 1m is pretty common now.

It tends to jump when you leave your normal screen and either go to the item carousel or right after you glyph, if you immediately try to access your inventory (like to recycle unneeded or extra items) when you come back to the normal screen, your arrow has "wandered off" usually 100-200 meters away in a random (and I do say random, cuz it just chooses a direction and heads that way) location. Then the app "notices" that you are back, and the GPS lock snaps back, and drags your arrow to where you actually are, half the time causing speed lock temporarily because you accidentally did something between the two (like recycled an item).

I'm thinking its along the lines of the devs trying to save on battery power by not requesting a GPS lock (or maybe even temp disabling it?) when you are doing something in your inventory, where you wouldn't actually need a a GPS lock (or GPS enabled), but when it's basically not requested, it drifts away from your location, then when you are back where it needs to be enabled, it locks back on and drags you back. I think the same thing happens within Pokemon Go (when viewing inventory or your "mons" or whatever they are called).

I'm not even sure if @NianticBrian has decided this is an actual bug or issue. I tried to search the forums, but I don't see anywhere that Brian actually responded to any issues about the GPS Drifting.

I don't have WiFi enabled on my phone when I'm anywhere but work or home. I turn it off. I don't use WiFi scanning or Bluetooth scanning for location accuracy, because it's shown to be inaccurate many times over. So, unless my phone isn't listening to my decisions, or the Ingress app is accessing settings it doesn't ask for....
