Unable to distinguish between uncaptured portal and unloaded portal
It's impossible to distinguish between an uncaptured portal (i.e. grey), and an unloaded portal, where the client is waiting for data from the server.
Pixel 2, version 2.39.3-ddc661af
Repro:
* Open Inventory
* Select Portal Keys
Current behaviour:
* scroll down See some portals show up with a yellow '1' and no energy bars
* Eventually (0-5 seconds later), the charge bars will show up, assuming the portal is captured.
This means that if the portal is actually uncaptured, you sit there waiting for several seconds, not knowing whether you're waiting for the server or the portal is loaded but uncaptured (i.e. grey)
Redacted behaviour:
The '1' used to show up white while we were waiting a response from the server.
Suggested behaviour:
white to yellow is incredibly subtle. Many I mentioned it to recently didn't even remember that behaviour. I relied on it heavily since I used to scroll through 1000 keys a day recharging them all.
Instead, I suggest populating the UI either with a blank or with a '0' while you have no data from the server, then change it to a '1' when you do get a response from the server.

Someone also suggested '-' which would work too. shrug. something distinctive. these are merely suggestions.
Evidence for this is hard to find, but my recollection of Ingress 1.x is that the level number in the top-left corner of the key was actually replaced by a loading symbol (white rotating circles) if the portal level wasn't yet known. (And if that's not what happened, it's what should have happened.)
I, too, have forgotten exactly what Redacted did, but I do not recall ever being confused, when looking at my portal keys, as to whether a portal’s data had yet to load versus the portal being neutral.
For Prime, I would suggest either mimicking Redacted’s behavior, or at the very least, using anything but a number for the portal’s level when the portal’s state is not actually known.
Yeah this is an issue. Each time I have to wait a bit more to see whether it's still loading or is loaded and grey. Some kind of loading spinner would be incredibly helpful.
fewer spinners, please. a dash (i.e. '-') instead of 1..8 is more than enough. My Pixel 2 is having enough problems with Prime as it is
I can agree with that, I only want this difference to be seen at the first glance. Redacted had spinner so that's what I suggested.
This used to show up without the 1 until it loaded, in Prime... What happened?
It works when loading capsules. The Key List should do the same thing.
