The Atrocity That IS Didact Field Challenge

    @Hydraulinski heavily disagree, again.

I respect the fact that you, and others find it easy.

I very much know how to play the game, 7 years enough? 2 hours a night 3 times a week, on average.

Events like these, I'll be out more frequently.

Lastly, the RLA to be changed to allow more outgoing links has been along requested thing, since they first came out. It is still a heavily requested change.

Will you buy me 3 more packs of ULAs? Because they aren't dropping, no matter how many glyph sequences I do, and is a similar story with others in my region.

I'm an agent living in a res-only small town which I've steadily built up in number of portals (now more than 200 - was less than 100). I managed 300 fields (exactly) in the first 3 hours and the other res player managed 103. Weather stopped play. Since then, I'm up to 599 and the other res player is nearing 400... You just need to understand the bare-bones of the challenge and have the experience of knowing which inventory items need to be collected for the long term (to use them in such circumstances). I was in the same position during the old EXO5 challenge - only understood the challenge too late on that occasion and have been collecting the rare stuff since: ADA, Jarvis + SBUL.

So you had plenty of time to plan before and execute the challenge. 😉

@Hydraulinski presuming something that could happen, versus what actually happened.

The bottom pic was during the key farm session

There was no time prior available. Because it was the weekend, the conscious decision was made to head to the zoo which has a large cluster of portals.

Above pics, used 12 ULAs and same number of flip cards. 2 evenings in a row, not even made 500 fields

Up to 451/800 as of before work this morning. (104 Fields, 172 Fields, 175 Fields for the past 3 days of the challenge). I only used 2 SBUL's and I've hacked 3 of them. Hacked 5 ADAs and 3 Jarvis thus far. Used 3 Jarvis. Glyphed uncountable mods from common to VR. Drove around and fielded some when it was 20F/-7C out. Walked in the park and micro fielded when it was 28F/-2C outside. Yesterday afternoon evening it finally warmed up a bit, and even more walking around 45F/7C. The worst part about this "Challenge" is the lack of an opponent who will knock down the damn fields. That and the fact that most parks around here close 30 minutes after sunset (which is around 5.30 PM and I'm usually still at work then). But I really can't complain about that too much. Will just have to wait for decay or hope some agent with some xmps will wander to a place I've fielded and use up their xmps to net some nearly "free" AP.

I think many will face the issue of not being able to deal with their inventory being full. Sometimes you just have to dump/recycle gear. If you are brave, you can try out the Capsule farm idea. ie drop capsules somewhere filled with extra gear to free up inventory space. Just remember where you put it, don't put it near where someone else plays and may take it, and don't put lots of valuable gear in it, because after 12 hours, it goes POOF! Like my few hundred resonators did on Sunday morning when I slept in a bit later than I had planned to. Oops. 😁

  • Didact is much easier than exo5 controller you know?

  • 4 softbank, 120 fields to build and then 40 links to make 75 fields + 120k AP every time I flip the centre portal. 9 jarvis + 9 ADA = Gold badge.

A lot of wasted portals you might say but that is due to inventory capacity. All the farming has me swamped. Can't carry weapons or resos with all the keys I have on board.

My Res neighbour wants to use it when I'm done. His system doesn't yield as much.

We are in a town with maybe 200 portals and I'm using just 40.

There was a week notice about a field event. If anything, farming keys was essential. There is still time to plan

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

See my other messages where time and especially inventory space made that, impossible.

  • HydracyanHydracyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Time, ok. But inventory? Recycle 300 resonators, cubes and mods and get them back while doing the challenge. I did the challenge and problaby recycled over 500 resonators in 3 days while I was collecting keys and making the fields, and spent 100 sbul to speed it up so I could be free of it faster.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Ditto on that. You change your loadout to how you play. Going to have a fielding event? Key farm, switch xmps to resos, get rid of unwanted mods or keys, ect. Not really all that hard. You just have to be able to part with gear. And having key capsules comes in really handy at this point. I dumped my non-essentials and used what I had, and key farmed a few places. I also tend to hoard heat sinks and leave them in qcaps all the time, so I have them when I need them. Same for sbuls, ada, jarvis, ect. Don't wast them on portals that don't need them, keep in capsules so you don't accidentally use them (which seems far easier in Prime than it was in Redacted).

Basically just comes down to planning and execution.

@Grogyan You don't need extra accounts to participate in this event. As I've said, as many others have said, you shift your gear towards what you are doing. And if you are glyphing for MOAR keys on each glyph, you don't even really need to farm up extra resos for the most part, they just come as you field.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah right, recycling over 2k items just for enough keys for a set of fields. that is a whole 2 hours gone, all time in the day for playing done.

That is glyphing (successfully) more keys on every portal.

  • All the OP wants to do is complain about why he couldn’t possibly complete this challenge, even if others try to assist by giving tips on ways to get the badge. OP must love to complain more than adapt, and make fields.

I'm basically stopping at bronze for this one. For the first weekend of this the city was my colour as far as the eye could see, with links everywhere. A couple of opposition players have cleared some small swathes (it must be a paradise for them at the moment) and I used one of those holes yesterday to add 40 or so to my total (in a shower of hail). It's half term week, so I'm not that mobile for the rest of the week, and a non-Ingress event this weekend means I won't be going out much then either. But y'know, them's the breaks. It is what it is. I got bronze for EXO5 as well as it happens.

But also, I absolutely refuse to virus my own fields just to put them back up again. So there's that. I got my >1 fields:links ratio fair and square, and I won't pollute it with that.

  • MoogModularMoogModular ✭✭✭✭✭

    Key lockers?

    The fielding gives AP.

If you see this as a waste of time and inventory, I don't know why you're complaining.

I still don't have the badge yet but I know why I don't...

  • I really don't understand the inventory space issue here. I threw ~650 fields last Sunday afternoon using a 15 layer field engine with six anchor options for one corner with only ~300 working inventory space. It cost a load of SBULs, ADAs, HS and MH (plus two frackers for laziness), but it certainly didn't require any great amount of free space ... and that was from zero keys for the engine at the start, again due to laziness beforehand.

Yes, it required saving up the very rare stuff, but the actual fielding space and kit requirements were minimal as I only needed to deploy a small number of portals and never needed to carry more than 6 rethrows worth of keys for the spine (throw from each of 6 anchors, walk the spine twice for keys while the anchors cooled down from being flipped, repeat and rinse). The only really tough parts were the diabolical weather and the park toilets shutting at 4pm just as I was busting for a leak.

  • I hear what you are saying. I find micro-fielding tedious, and this was my first experience trying an AP engine. Used many SBUL & Jarvis. Not my favorite challenge, And I imagine it is harder for rural agents, No matter how easy some people think it is, your thoughts are valid.

  • HydracyanHydracyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Every challenge is harder in rural areas. Niantic probably don't care at all and focus at the larger target.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

If you have to recycle 2,000 items for fielding, it sounds like you might be doing something wrong.

And you have super duper nice weather to field in. Here in the middle of the US today? It's currently 29F at 2.45 PM. brrr. I went out and made fields before work this morning though. Up to 545/800. A little here, a little there, they all add up. I have like 200 xmps, 300 resos, 300 mods, 100+ flip cards, and a JILLION KEYS (and 6 full key lockers, lol)! Just waiting for someone to reset the field. That or I will go Jarvis some stuff (someone is gonna lose lots of easy AP, but oh well for them). Those things have been dropping like bonkers this past week.

Oddly, I know some rural players who just travel to places of higher portal density for the events/challenges that Ingress has. I rarely hear them complain about lack of portal density.

  • Got 14 field from 12 portals until today lol. So very hard to get the keys. no keys cant use SBUL effectively.

  • edited February 2020

If the dang scanner was working I would make even more fields.

  • grendelwulfgrendelwulf ✭✭✭✭✭

It was a challenge but I didn't hate it.

  • This challenge was easy for some, and impossible for others.

I've been working almost exclusively on getting my black mind controller for a couple of months (i added 11,000 fields over 3 months). When this challenge was announced I knew I could just replicate a 40 portal set I use that works with three lines up anchor portals - 76 fields per throw. Just needed to farm 11 keys each of the set up, which I did over the week before (it's right near my work). Set up the field set the afternoon before as the areas closed over night.

40 SBUL and 11 Jarvis later, 3 hours and 7 minutes all up from first link to last. I was prepared and it went smoothly. For agents that weren't prepared with keys and plans, i could see the struggle.

  • EvilSuperHerosEvilSuperHeros ✭✭✭✭✭

Not too shabby. I just micro fielded my way to 800. Same way I did Onyx Mind Controller & Onyx Connector. Not hard at all.

Making arguments like that is ridiculous, and serves only to troll.

6 Key lockers are already full of tactical keys

More capsules are used for tactical purposes and cannot be recycled.

And over 10,000 other items have been recycled during the course of the event, to ensure there were enough keys to accomplish enough fields in the time allocated in the day for video games

  • HydracyanHydracyan ✭✭✭✭✭

Seems like a device problem or a bug in gerenal that compromise his game as whole. Unrelated to the difficulty of the challenge, wich is relatively easy.

Yesterday in went to a park with 2 recruits ofnmy family to show them how to do fields in a good way and ensure their bronze. That 200 could easily have been mine with about 1h messing arround in the park plus collecting keys and 3 sbuls and flipcards.

  • GrogyanGrogyan ✭✭✭✭✭

No I am most definitely not trolling anyone.

And the bug is quite real. Affects everyone I know with an Android flagship.

Awesome stuff @Hydraulinski in getting new people playing, hope they will continue playing.
