I must agree. Instead of this one being "Oh yay, I did it!" It was more like "Oh look, I followed the instructions really well. "
You're right, English is not even my native language (though I use it so much that it has become second nature). Of course, obfuscation of the solution is part of the puzzle, but if you've never seen French before, @tkh7, you might get stuck there for a long time.
Of course but the same goes for any other part of any other challenge when you haven't seen something before. Like me, looking at Base64, in Omniscient. Or, alternatively, even worse when you understand it well. like the musicians in Listener.
This was fun! Going places, seeing things, twisting about, squinting at stuff and going "AHA!", hearing different languages, interpreting the final string. Got it during reading comments page 3, what held me up in the end was not recognizing the first number in the final string. Really nice and delicate hints, thank you all!
Edit, after reading on from the top of page 3 I see that unfortunately the hints thread really dissolves and massive spoilers are out on display. I'm glad I paced out the first two pages of hints in itty bitty bits and did all the work before reading another bit.
The finding of the cipher was questioned. I found it in some seconds, before it was mentioned in hints, the decode-page analysis engine was completely certain what it was, and it was. I was new to code-puzzles before Archetypes I think this was an absolutely exxelent challenge, and given enough time I feel I could have done it all by my self, there was no unexplained directions or steps only an actual coder would understand. I loved the "rebus"-y feeling of it all.
Does this equate to 14 letters? I have a possible french word up front but it also feels like I've missed the mark.
The "three words" from the 14 locations have 14 letters total between them, which become transformed into two words that start with "i". This new pair of words is not yet your final answer, but is applied to the original challenge. And even then, you're still not done.
Thanks. I only have one I so either my coords are off or i'm not seeing the structures correctly.
The 8th and 10th structures are the least clear. You may be able to extrapolate them from the rest, if you've gotten ALL the others correct.
DECODED!!!! I'm so happy. this is the first one i haven't had to rely super super heavy on instructions here! Such an amazing feeling.
This was a LOT of fun
