Popup when submitting a duplicate
It is very frustrating to submit a portal, only to find out that someone else has submitted the same thing and it was in OPR. So their's gets approved and yours is a duplicate. I know the system can't determine for sure if a candidate is a duplicate, but the submission system could put up a warning based on proximity which says:
"Another portal candidate has been submitted on this spot and is in OPR. Do you want to proceed with your submission anyway?"

One of the things I like about reviewing so much is that I get a good sense of what areas are being submitted or not. I have personally made a map of what areas I have submitted to keep track of the candidates of what I have submitted and what other folks have submitted in my nearby area. I also tend to communicate to agents on both sides to see if they are planning to submit a park or not so I don't have to waste my submissions if it's already been submitted or soon to be.
I recommend making a map if you have time otherwise you need to communicate with other players to know what not to submit if your worried about duplicate candidates.
Only bad thing I think about it is when we got a upgrade in opr and it happens to be one that is already accepted. So would be nice to delete my own submission from the system, saving opr time from the other agents.
Also, if two equals submission are approved withing few days and are far enough both have a chance of becaming duplicates. I saw this sometimes. And some mine got fully accepted but not online because few days Early another was accepted.
Theres just no way that would work, people misplace the location all the time so theres no way of implementing that.
I guess your response may be something like, well in x meters radius of the submission point, again that is just not efficient or practical.
If its incorrectly located at the point of submission, then that idea may prevent other valid candidates from being submitted due to the original agents error.
Thats without taking other factors into account like the original agent could have made a mistake in the photograph and captured a number plate and so will be rejected however, another more aware submitter who wouldnt make such a mistake, is unable to make a valid sub until the invalid one has completed OPR and been rejected.
Considering the variable wait times for subs to complete OPR do you want to wait possibly months to be able to make a specific submission and then wait the same time again for it to be reviewed ? .
It takes seconds to mark a submission as a duplicate and the worse that happens to a submitter who makes a duplicate is thay they lose one sub for 14 days, neither of which are a hardship
@Theisman actually it would be rather simple to implement. The system would check if anything is in the OPR system in the same x radius, and just offer the chance to cancel or proceed. It doesn't matter if it's due to a mistake in the system or not.
I would rather have the option not to sub something that might be a duplicate than lose a submission because I didn't know something else was submitted in the same place. The variable wait times makes the problem even worse: I have heard of cases where 3-4 different agents submitted the same thing.
I believe that more important than this is showing us what already exists in the community (I meant the 3 games, ingress, Pokemon and Harry Potter), since not every portal is used in other games, there is a lot of duplicates being sent from people who don't play ingress.
Nah, let it go. It gives the reviewers an easy agreement on duplicate.
