Screen not shutting down with inactivity
I just realized that both Ingress and Pokemon do not shut down the phone's screen while inactivity from the user. I always thought it was because I had a high time set to shut it down, but I fell asleep and wake up with my phone almost in flames. I tried to configure it and test a bunch of other apps and games and just Niantic product don't do it.
Am I'm missing some checkbox anywhere or is really this way? I'de like to suggest the removal of this feature or a way to turn it off.

why not, you know, Close the App,,,,,,
This is needed when using the app for navigating. It's definitely a feature and must stay. Just switch to a different app when you aren't playing anymore.
What if I put it in my pocket and forget, sleep or something else? It's gonna deplete all my batery.
I want the free will to decide when my phone will shut down, that is currently 10 minutes. This function exists in the phone for a reason.
And the ability for apps to disable this also exists for a reason. All the other navigation apps do that as well while you are navigating (e.g. Google Maps). You don't want the phone to hide the display in the middle of navigating somewhere.
All the other navigation apps
Last time I checked both ingress and pokemon go were games, not navigation tools. Also, Google maps only override the phone standby time when it is actually navigating the selected route, not all the time in every screen.
Look, I understand your point, sometimes this feature is really useful, but most of the time it really isn't even noticeable for me. Nobody play it staring at the screen for over and hour. It doesn't even track the trekker status if you're not interacting with it.
I just want to actively choose if I want this resource on or off.

Battery Saver will blank the screen when you turn the phone upside down or aim it down. However, the wakelock is intentional because when you're going from place to place, especially as a commuter or passenger, it's annoying to keep reopening the screen between portals.
Solutions:
It should be an option though.....
Well
I'de like to suggest the removal of this feature
Should be a flat no since this is a feature people like (and many don't even realise they do)
It's funny, because your solution can be otherwise too, like:
1. Program your phone to never shut
2. Adjust the time it takes to shut
3. Keep touching the screen to prevent it to shut

I have a standby shutdown time preset on my exactly for the times I can't do it at will, so my phone will recognize my inactivity and do it for me. The game isn't a movie that need 2h of screen untouched. No one "plays" for over a hour without touching it. This system should either be chosen at settings or have an automatic turn off after x minutes (30 for example).
Remove the obligatory imposition that force everyone in.
