[IDEA] Before submitting, list the existing POI's names without any distance or coordinates to them

Sorry if someone posted this idea before. We have all seen feedback on how not all POI are visible to Pokemon players when they're playing or submitting new Wayspots.
The ones that know how to look at them (in IITC and such) end up finding a way... I can see the advantages and disadvantages of showing a map of all existing wayspots in all games when submitting. It either can legitimately help a submitter to send a new waypost or, on the other hand, help him to move the location of his marker to get another Wayspot...
What if we could provide players with a list of names of the existing wayspots in all games?
So, if I'm in a park and I see an outdoor fitness gym, I pull PoGo, click on the nomination and I'd be provided with a list of existing wayspots:
"Before submitting, check if your submission won't be a duplicate of these nearby wayspots"
- Playground
- Pergola
- Outdoor Fitness Gym
- Basketball court
This without any info on distance and coordinates. In my view, this could help players to avoid duplicates, reduce their frustration and avoid maps being exploited that much.
Just my 2 cents.

Would be better to show the existing POIs on the Submission map before you start the process, with names. So when you place your pin, you can see where everything else is.
And if you move the map, you can hit another "Search this Area" button like Google Maps, to show the portals in that location.
Showing exactly where the others POI exist will make many to place it on wrong location to avoid the proximity rule. Today, this is done through IITC and such.
Which means they're at no loss to show it, because it's already done through other means, but by displaying them all, it would reduce the duplicates.
Attempting to hide something people already have access to is pointless...
From what I have heard, pogo does not have access to the entire Database of POI, loading it, just to avoid this issue not seems the best way. Why would you load on the background something that you may never use?
Use the other means...
The entire post is predicated on there being a way to list in Pokemon Go all POIs. Niantic has the entire list and there's no reason they couldn't provide it, so it's not my suggestion you need to argue with, re-read the OP.
Ok.
This is a Ingress forum, go request it to Pokemon Go forum 🤣
Again, not my request. I'd like the ability to see all the POIs in Ingress, and convincing them to build it for PoGo is how I would get that. I just think listing all the names is pointless effort without their locations.
Many objects are large enough to cover 2-4 of the s2 cells that PoGo uses. I don't think that showing the 20 meter cutoff from existing waypoints will cause abuse as much as it would help reduce resubmissions. People who want to abuse the distance rules to misplace things are already doing it without visual aids that would help people place marks better.
An easy solution for location abuse would be if Niantic defined where exactly to place the pin.
For instance:
- a building needs its pin on the main entrance.
- a sports area needs its pin in the center of the spectator area
- ...
I don't see picking a spot that benefits the other games as abuse when it is still correctly placed. There are WAY too many possibilities of architecture and accessibility, as well as multiple entrances/spectator areas that make a specific blanket instruction impossible.
The abuse is people purposely placing marks away from the nominations' actual location to get them in a desired cell.
The "abuse" of moving the pin from one side of the building to the other is that it is distracting from the original nomination/community decision to place it where it went live at. The "abuse" is that it's not adding any value to the game, just changing from a 5* to a 5* (or 4.5*) location. The "abuse" is that it ties up voters time reviewing and blindly having to decide which side of the building we're supposed to pick. The "abuse" is "gaming the system" so another nearby portal can be added or a S2 cell can be changed for PoGO purposes.
It wasn't a community decision, it was one individual, unless you mean the community of OPR/Wayfarer fiddling with a location they've never visited.
If it adds a Pokémon GO asset while keeping the location correct, it is adding value to a game people actually play.
At half a second per review, I think you'll get over it.
Solution: don't show the exact location of extant POIs, just their names and pictures.
"There are X other Wayspots in the area around your nomination. Before you submit, please make sure your candidate is not on the following list."
Yes, something along these lines. IMHO it will prevent duplicates from being submitted.
The information is already known to anyone who wants to find out. Ingress has the Intel map.
But you don't want Pokémon players using the Intel map.
