Upcoming Maintenance on Intel Map

Hi folks,
Over the course of the next two weeks, starting Jan 7 and ending Jan 17, the Ingress team will be working on updates to the Intel Map. This work will take place from 10:00am - 5:00pm PST on weekdays.
In the meantime, if you notice any unexpected or bug-like behavior apart from 502 server errors (which are the result of a known issue we're actively working on addressing), please reply on this thread with a description of what you're experiencing and details about what device and browser you're using to access Intel Map.
We'll be using this info to continue to improve the Intel Map and eliminate unforeseen issues in our updates.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
Current Known Issues:
- Intel Map loads but other Game Elements (Portals/links/fields, etc) don’t*
- Some Portals load; some are missing*
- 502 Server Error
*In the process of getting fixed. Please report if you notice any new instances.
If you notice any other issues during this timeframe (10:00 am to 5:00 pm PST weekdays), please use the following format to report the issue:
------

Location: [Paste Intel Map link]
Type of Issue: [Choose from the following]

Please share to all your social media accounts so it can be further disseminated to agents. Intel is a critical part of the game. Thank you for the post!
Let's just hope this is nothing planned by Nemesis
Thanks for the heads up! It's very welcome, and appreciated
I hope the end product will be great enough to be worthy of celebration on Benjamin Franklin's Birthday. 😉
Greatly appreciate the heads up!
Thank you very much for the heads up.
Thank you for the heads up!
Thanks :)
🥰 Thank you
Thanks for update.
(I had some further issues with portals not loading, but I'm not on stock Intel so editing out my post. I'll try tonight without any plug-ins or anything and see if I can re-create.)
Thanks for the heads up, but why no test environment for this?
Hello, thanks for the opportunity to contribute.
Is there a list of issues you will address? One of the issues I struggle with is the habit of the Intel map to load all items, and then to start over and load the whole lot again. The unofficial workaround could be to use IITC, but I don't use it as I don't trust it. It's not Niantic software or a Niantic partner.
That is on mobile. Any device.
Kind regards
Lieven
@NianticCasey Thanks for the communication.
Thanks for the heads up IN ADVANCE and not after 'unexplained' issues have started.
Is this part of moving Intel services off of the shim servers and onto the RWE servers directly? Is the expectation that this process will be smooth, or do you expect the transition to have significant hurdles to figure out?
@NianticCasey Thanks for the update.
However, as a long term player, seen a host of issues brought up over the years with the intel map. Are these likely to be resolved.
Most were, and still are, that it is so, sloooow
Good question @EvilSuperHeros, we're not considering the production environment our test, but rather are taking this cautious approach to make sure that all of the issues we've already resolved and no longer see internally aren't active in production for some reason.

Yeah that's what I'm seeing.
@Perringaiden please test now and let me know what you see.
As an additional follow up, I'm not seeing any additional portals added, or any missing compared to the 2nd screenshot, at 12:01 PST.
We have tested the code on our internal environments, and when we deploy here we dont expect to see bugs. However, there are various factors such as load and access patterns which make certain bugs more difficult to catch in internal environments (two of the more recent ones include server capacity issues + rate limits). We are essentially switching Intel servers onto a brand new platform and so there are lots of issues which are hard to expect / test for. We want to minimize the impact of switching onto the new platform as much as possible, so this sort of timed rollout is our way of trying to minimize the impact of bugs while working on anything that comes up and being up front that there may be problems during this timeframe. I hope that helps.
So, the bug only occurs when the data isnt in the cache (so, to test, youd have to look at a new area). I pushed a new build which I think should have make portals load more often at around 12. This was verified on internal environments, but I would like to check and see if you're seeing the same thing. Is that what you're seeing?
This is moving the servers onto an entirely new environment, yes (which is what makes us more cautious with its rollout and potentially unforeseen bugs). I think that it should be smooth process, but moving a mountain is never likely to go entirely as planned.
Yeah, there are problems with the Intel map as is, but what we're attempting to do here is to move the servers onto a new platform. Essentially this is moving a mountain a mile to the left. We hope that everything should be the same, but life doesnt always go as planned. So, what would be especially useful is any error you find that wasnt there a month ago. Thanks!
I did some jumping around to areas in south east Queensland where I knew the portals by heart, and I couldn't find any missing portals. I'm going to have a look at Vegas now and see whether I can spot any missing there. LA is 'completely cached' right now so I can't run my full reference count.
Whatever your 12pm fix was, I haven't been able to find any missing portals. With my "well known areas" already cached I can't really test too much more on memory.
I did however notice a bit of weirdness with the percentage complete indicator on Stock:
Also, the 2nd and subsequent reloads of an area after they're cached, are much faster which is a great improvement. So whatever you changed, definitely improved the situation.
Cool, thats good to note. Please let me know how your testing with regards to missing portals goes. I think that you should expect to see about what it was before December/November.
I've just panned around, not spotted any missing ones.
Loaded a few missions and all the portals were present.
Gut feel is that it was slightly slower than I expected - but that could just be me.
