Research quests for Ingress, with rewards of VR items?

Pogo and HPWU both have daily research quests, where, if you "catch 10 xxx pokemon" you get rewards. Since Quantum capsules no longer replicate VR items, and VR gear is, well, very rare, why not incorporate a daily research quest for Ingress? "Capture five portals" "add mods to six portals" "make three fields" etc etc, and have the weekly quest rewards be 3 SBUL, or 5 Ageis. The daily quests could be l8 resos, or xmp, or something that maybe more rural players might have a harder time getting. That way people actually have to gasp PLAY the game, in order to get vr gear. As someone who would use more of said gear to make fields etc, if I could get my hands on them, I think it'd be an awesome idea to get more folks to play daily, or at least more often,

  • What would have gotten more people to play more regularly would have been for the Devs to listen when players said prime was terrible, and not ready, and we wanted a new platform for Redacted.

Nothing will get more players to play more regularly now.

  • Anything that is more beneficial to spoofers than players, IMO, is a bad thing.

VR gear can be gained by hacking, and if @NianticBrian wants us to have more VR gear, then he can tweak the drop rates and the glyph drop rates of that gear. We don't need a way for cheats to gather that gear far faster than we can, even more so than hacking.

Ultimately, things like glyphing and fracking being dialed back (by making Glyphing output less and consequently fracking less exciting) would encourage people to make farms that don't need VR gear, because they're gear rich by number of portals, not a concentrated 10 minute hacking session with VR hack mods. And with larger farms, you don't need VR shields to keep the place up, because you can get basic mitigation with Rare and Common shields, and then supplement it with links.

So really, its the reliance on VR gear that's the problem, not the lack of "things to do".
