Recursion Benefits
What benefits, if any, should they confer to people who Recurse, once, twice, or more?
Anything I would want would be game-breaking, like the ability to deploy more than one level 8 resonator per portal, or deploy more than 2 mods per portal, or hacking bonuses.
I am sure they are working on something. I am going to be ready to Recurse again in another month or two, and I'm not sure why I would want to.

One thought is AP boost - something like 1.1x on each Recursion
Another thought is a small increase in item storage (+50 or +100 for each recursion).
But aren't you going to do it just for the thrill of the chase?
I will do it for the wings on my badges
maybe keep a higher xm bar each recursion, as i thought i would keep my xm bar before i recursed. when i lost being able to hold that much xm it hurt.
so first recursion is xm bar per level like normal, second recursion holds a little bit more of your lost xm per level, up to the eigth recursion lets you keep a full level 16 xm bar if you recurse again.
I think it would be nice to attune to an archetype...the more you recurse the more tightly you can attune.
Alchemist gets transmutor and quantum boosts
Explorer gets benefits based on how far they walk and explorer badge points
Trickster portal innoculations last 15 minutes longer for their enemies and 15 minutes less for themselves
Omniscient could have bonuses to OPR and nominations
Dreamer can field under friendly fields
Catalyst get attack bonus and higher crit % on attack ring, can only place 1 mod
Interpreter - benefits for glyphing
Humanist gets recharge benefits
Visionary can field under enemy fields
Etc.
More than 8 links per portal.
Slightly larger action circle.
Already mentioned, but bonus xm bar and an extra R7/R8 deployment would be a great enhancement for recurse, along with extra storage. More key lockers etc.
I think it would be thematic in the game, and not particularly game-breaking to have resonators have shielding based on number of times an agent has recursed. So, each resonator that a recursed agent deploys adds +1-2%/recursion additional shielding*. This would indicate stronger portals from stronger players. To counter that, recursed agents should get a similar boost to power on weapons (XMP/US), stronger agents have stronger firepower.
I don't think this would really break the game since even if you managed to get a portal to be 100% more shielded, you can still take it down. And it could make for some interesting strategy plays trying to get recursed agents together for teams. Anomaly play could allow for this to mean strike teams of advanced players -- basically these become the Seals/Marine units. And people who are serious about the game would want to recurse multiple times so that they could be put on these teams.
PS: * or perhaps to keep someone from just recursing 100 times and taking over the game, each recursion is a percentage of a percentage? Like, first recurse is 2%, next is 1%, next is 0.5%? I'd say have statisticians run those numbers for best outcomes.
One ENL player recursed twice, but seems to have gained no benefit from doing so. I recursed one time, got the 16, and I probably won't do it again.
It would be great to have recursion have more than a cosmetic effect ingame. I know several people, including me, who timed recursion with changes in real life. So the ability to grow and evolve ones character a tiny bit (more firepower, XM Bar, inventory space, whatever....) would make it even more meaningful.
I'd be happy with an extra 500 inventory slots per recursion
@ManiacD Good to see you are still playing.
500 extra inventory is rather excessive. Maybe just 50
Plus 1000 extra XM in the XM bar
And a small AP boost like as already mentioned by @vidicon of 1,1x
An extra key locker would be nice
I'd do it for increased inventory space - say 100 per recursion.
As for what recursing has done for me as a player - the AP chase has greatly improved my chase for badges - especially builder, connector and mind controller. As a full lvl 16 agent there isnt that internal push to level up as fast as possible to get the XM bar back!
@Grogyan Hey yeah still playing although been playing Harry Potter more of late but switch back and forth. Thinking about it you do make a valid point 500 would be way too much and I agree 50 would be better (plus the extra XM and slight AP boost would be fantastic)
@ArchAngel08 Oh yeah an extra key locker you can purchase per recursion would be amazing
Bigger XM bar.
Extra key lockers available.
Generator: special key locker that charges keys with Trekker KM. (Opinions vary on whether you should need to feed it power cubes.)
Certificates of deposit: like quantum capsules, but with a longer timer for payoff, like key lockers in that stored items don't count against cap.
Extra slots for mission creation.
Extra portal submission quota, even just one or two per recursion would help a lot.
more mission slots or extra submission slots are 2 that i'd like to see that aren't really advantages to day to day play.
increased XM tank or minor inventory storage would be fairly nice as well.
heck even just unlocking more player badge customization options would be neat
Since you're essentially copying yourself, over and over, I think a proper reward would be a degradation in your quality. Your resonators should fail to deploy, your links should not show up as possible, your scanner should crash all the time, etc.
Key scrapbooks that don’t count against your inventory. You can put keys in, but you can’t take them out or use them. This would allow us to keep mementos without using inventory space. I’ve burned so many keys I would have enjoyed keeping....
The best idea I've come up with for Recursing is.... each time you recurse, you obtain 50 more slots of inventory space.
Inventory space is more valuable than anything else in the game as far as I'm concerned, so this would be a huge benefit.
Fun to read these ideas - some of them are new, some align with thoughts we've had.
While we aren't building more for Recursion right now (instead, focusing on core functionality, etc. -- hope you'd agree), we are thinking that any benefits that Agents get for multiple recursions will be awarded, whether you Recurse now or later. Fair warning, though: nothing is set in stone, which is why your input is great to read. I've bookmarked this thread!
I like long links. Maybe a small link range bonus for redacted players?
Re-cursing is an ill thought out game dynamic that penalizes small communities with low amounts of portals. My advice is think carefully before re-cursing.
@Zenn i love tour ideas 🤩
I suppose that recursion benefits developing now and they will depend on onyx badge counters (how many times player made onyx badge). May be it will be some 'points' to spend for various little benefits (aka skill tree).
I'm not sure I want to really see any benefits for recursing beyond a recursion tiered badge and perhaps recursion granting improved medal for the Ingress birthdays. Even increasing the inventory size by 50 per recursion feels too strong... I'd need to give some real thought to any "benefits" it could bring as they should not be game changing.
However I would like to see recursed agents keeping the same XM bar after recursion.
For every Recursed Agent Ninatic donate 10$ to charity 🤔
That generator idea is great. Would be great with sync. @Morganza
I don't agree with this at all.
Have you ever played any other game other than Ingress? How about Diablo 3? There is a soft max level of 70 in that game, but they have what is called "Paragon levels", in that, when you go above and beyond the max level of 70, you start to gain paragon levels, which are endless. And with each paragon level you get more powerful, not less powerful. It isn't exponential power, its just a few meager points per paragon level, but you still go up in power.... not down.
I get this isn't Diablo 3, nor is Ingress developed by Blizzard Entertainment / Activision, but the statement stands. Recursing is a way of going "above and beyond" your current soft level cap. Therefore, you should slowly increase in power, not decrease.
Increase AP to level up.
1st recursion nothing change.
2nd recursion need 50% more AP.
3th need double the original amount.
