Woo! It sounds like Niantic is working on a subscription program. Until the program is out, I think I’m in for another round of the do-it-yourself subscription that this thread is about.
This is why every time a Niantic rep gets snotty about repeated questions with a "we've answered this before" response, I have to shake my head and roll my eyes. Yep - you sure have. We're just checking to see if you've changed your mind again/yet. OK, sure, things change and evolve, but then maybe cut back on the contempt you show your user base for asking the same thing over and over, when you reverse unequivocal statements about major things like selling L8/VR gear and increasing inventory.
I left geocaching for ingress when the only caches left were premium caches. (Its user generated game content)
A paywall is going to scare off the little influx we have that reaches level8
The richest company's in the world use data points for income, I'm also happily buying frackers and tickets and I woulnt even mind a daily ad when I want to recycle media.(and then a paid option to avoid ads)
Niantic aperantly unable to monetize the data points is just another epic failure.
Wait, so if a company try to get more money out their customers, developing new ways from them waste their money, does this meant the company is having financial problems?
No the general consensus is that WU has licensing fees associated with it and it's low playerbase isn't earning enough to cover them, so those costs are being spread through other areas. Add to that the prime Dev costs and associated player base decay, pogos continued AR dev costs and the new Catan game, then the financials aren't as good as they were 12 mths ago.
I don't think subscription based game is a good solution because a lot of players will quit. There are poor areas and countries where people can't afford to spend money for that. Because of this, I suggest to add "premium" status which would give you different benefits without change game balance. By example, 100% bonus items for hack, daily box with random rewards, a sign in front, back or both of his name to indicate in chat or profile that he/she is a game supporter, and the list could be long to attract more players to activate premium. With a right price they could earn more money from premiums than they actually earn from ingame store.

Oh well.

Nice gastar dinero como si te sobrara xD
I'll be contributing my usual price in gas money and free location data.
Why pay more, Niantic isn't supporting me.

I bought the Hank medal
Pogo appears to be getting subscription options with the new buddy system, looks like Niantic financials aren't in a good place.
Maybe they should cut the cord on HPWU and go back to having two games if they can’t sustain themselves running 3
Catan comes next year, then it's 4.
They will pull the plug on Ingress first.
