I don't think it would. For one, almost every hotel in the United States has a pool. Accepting all those would be giving all hotels a waypoint. That bad business practice when you can sell sponsorships. Tennis Courts are much more rare.
as far as I know, only private swimming pools are not allowed. Hotel pools can be considered public, even if you have to pay. No different then going to a water park, which are allowed.
I'm pretty sure the Hotel guideline has always been that the hotel itself was not valid unless historic/notable but eligible candidates within a hotel were fine. You know they never said that you just don't think pools are good candidates.
For my above point about conference centres, I shouldn't HAVE to pester @RedSoloCup or @NianticCasey on this sort of thing, it's really a matter of "common sense" They're busy guys, and will certainly be happy to respond in an AMA for new questions. A conference centre is literally the definition of "gathering place". Being AT a "place of business" has, over and over and over, been explicitly called out as NOT overriding the acceptable-ness of any POI. Only being AT an explicitly called-out location (PRP, K12, Military, etc) does that.
In short, a conference centre at a hotel is still a good POI and should be accepted by reviewers.
But apparently most of you will only believe this answer IF repeated by Niantic. So maybe one of you should interject after all? It helps to cut short these debates, at least.
As for swimming pools, the MOST most-recent information is in Wayfarer itself, "Swimming pools - Eligible, if not located on private residential property. "
Is a swimming pool to conference room at a place of business like a Holiday Inn or Hilton fundamentally different from a playground at a place of business like a McDonald's?
"Room"? Pfft. I said "Centre". A "Conference Centre" (aka "Convention Centre") is a much different animal than a mere "Room". One hosts the local comiccon, psychic fair, etc, and the other is a business amenity.
I don't agree with either a blanket accept or a blanket reject. Pools were people gather, such as community, municipal, and park pools, should be accepted. Pools at hotels, motels and at homes should be rejected.
However, I have to disagree Hotel/Motel Pools should be accepted. I know from personal experience pools at places like Myrtle Beach South Carolina at the hotels are one of the busiest and most popular locations. Big tourist towns pools at hotels are always popular.
It would have been a smarter choice to keep it on and say Reject. Just removing it is the worst choice. I'm starting to feel like this aspect of the game is a waste of time. With the system being flooded and submissions becoming inelligible at a whim. It's confusing and hard to tell new submitters anything when the rules change like this. It shows that the guidelines mean nothing.
Wow, it is gone. It was there two days ago. Maybe someone added it of their own volition without consulting the powers that be, so it has been removed for further refinement
It was there as recently as yesterday afternoon because I had to quote it multiple times on Reddit against people who continue to state that pools should be rejected. Well, since there is no clear reject or accept directive in the guidelines anymore, I take it that it left to us to determine which pools should be accepted or rejected based on other criteria (ie. hidden gems and local attractions).
That was the most nonsense thing Nia did the last few days! People in my city just started submitting pools and they changed the guidelines without further notice and against other AMA answer. Not a single notice in the update criteria log! C’mon Nia, you can do better than that!

Was that listed as a reason to reject swimming pools?
@Kliffington it was. They said to accept pools unless they are at businesses. Hotels, motels, resorts are businesses.
I'm reviewing a tennis court on a beach which seems to be part of the resort behind it, I'm presuming the same reasoning holds?

Got a link to the AMA? Updated criteria log in Wayfarer says Swimming pools - Eligible, if not located on private residential property.

Which reminds me. Very few hotels have "conference centres", and getting THOSE approved has been a nightmare too.
Every hotel I've stayed in that wasn't a **** drive up motel has had one. It's a basic business amenity.
Who said this and where can I find it? I've just spent the last half hour searching all over this forum, Reddit, and elsewhere
@0X00FF00 care to inquire about this as well?

I knew this was coming

And pools are now back off the accept list. I checked the change log and saw nothing about them being removed.
As they should be :)

Homes should be rejected for sure.

They took it off without saying anything? What is going on!
That's what I like to know. @RedSoloCup @NianticCasey Can either of you explain why the directive to accept pools was secretly removed?

And they wonder why we ask the same questions over and over....

The lack of pool transparency is disturbing.
needs more chlorine
