Reviewers are a joke.
I have just been sent a submission denial .
I was flagged with "Offensive content". and "Appears to be of a person or group of people instead of a valid object".
Perhaps these people can be seen by you, I can't. Because there ARE NO PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE.
Reviewers like this need to be banned from reviewing.
But "Support" won't deal with it.

While the reasons might be inaccurate
There is No way I would ever vote to approve that portal, it's a gravestone and the date looks like 2018. So this individual died within the last 2yrs. And it even has fresh flowers being laid at it.
Perhaps before calling out all reviews as joker you take a look at what your submitting. I could understand that being flagged as abuse just for the sheer inappropriateness of the submission.
That's clearly a memorial, not a gravestone. Which was likely even more apparent from the street view. People aren't usually buried in parks.
As for whose memorial it is? Five seconds of googling found this: https://thepolicememorialtrust.org/pc-david-phillips/
I would 1* that as a person as the reason but not as offensive. I really do hate bad reviewing. Then of course we have people grading things so hard they act like they are better than others. Like some of these agents didn't have nice coal submissions from the early days? It seems like we can't even get people to look past first impressions as well cultural submissions don't have to be something as an eye popper. I have examples when in most cases yeah it would be a fail but when given evidence of why it should be a portal people just say oh it is just a stamp on the ground well did you ever consider it may not be your taste but the local community placed it there for a reason?
My mistake, clearly an actual review would have had a detailed description. Never the less it's not hard to understand why people would view that as inappropriate
Better photo would've definitely helped. Try the same angle as in the official photos: https://thepolicememorialtrust.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Final-Memorial-Positioning-and-Lighting_resized.jpg
Some of the reviewers likely saw your photo, got the wrong impression, and instantly slammed one star without bothering to check the title, description, or even location.

Gra Park Giant Leaf Imprint
The Gra Park Giant was a variety of pecan tree grown and cultivated at Gray's Peacn Orchard by Oscar 'O.S.' Gray during the mid 20th century. The orchard was active until the 1970's and now is a nature area named after the owner O.S. Gray.
Im refuting every reviewer who denied these from multiple agents a quick search shows they are valuable it isn't like they don't exist and aren't permanent. The problem I see is we can't even trust reviews to give the submitter an honest chance to get a portal approved.
Ehhh someone is always crying about a submission not being approved. No everyone in the a 1000+mile radius views everything the same.
The majority of reviews arnt going to Google search every submission. Just accept that you need to sell it more sometimes
The description is wrong which doesnt help and all the news reports say it was placed in a square not a park, try re subbing it with the description corrected and supporting info saying that its in the park
We do just that. There is an issue with bad reviewers though. Not going to lie. Personal bias is used way too much. Oh and people demanding a photosphere are going against the guidelines to begin with that is why we have a support photo.
Oh there are bad reviews and there are bad submitters and there will always be.
Just keep seeing threads where someone is bad mouthing all reviewers yet for the submission you don't see the supporting photo, description, addition info, street/satelight view. Which really is unfair since have seen soo many people half as s it which can be why a submission is rejected.
E.g. that looks like a 20cm impression of a leaf on a path, hardly an instant 5* and depending on what other info was provided etc not hard to see people giving it a 2* with the thought (well it might meet the criteria but I don't think it's a good POI), others maybe a 3 as there unsure.
Marking things as abuse simply because it may not fit criteria is wasting Niantics time.
I also got a veterans monument kicked back for having people in it. Mine doesn't even look remotely like a gravestone and zero people in sight.
honestly I think it should be a 3*. I am not asking for 5*. But yeah I get it bad mouthing without evidence and blaming everyone. Now I have purposely sent in subs that are low par just to see what locals think of them. I have sent in a generic mile marker, a faded sign for a monarch weigh station, a bench with a covering, and most recently a generic neon sign at a eatery that seems to be getting generic art objects in it approved. I do it to feel out how people are voting things for my personal naughty and nice submissions playbook, Maybe 10 rejections out of 280 approvals.

to me
We've reviewed your Portal submission and believe it meets the Candidate Portal criteria. However, this candidate is too close to an existing Portal, so we're not able to bring it online at this time.
This one is really a head scratcher honestly. I am not mad to be honest.
Oh I get that to and Redacted was my quick and lazy submitting solution, and I love a good rant as much as the next person.....boy I do.
It's just gets old the constant generalized hate. Like if someone had a solid candidate knocked back and they took the time to show exactly what was in there submission and asked am I wrong? What could be done to increase its chances? etc. That I could get behind and might even provide knowledge for later submissions of my own.
Might be limited comfort to find out Nope you submission is good and everyone who comments agreed it should have been approved but it's something.
The last one in your comment, is not a rejection.
Reviewers accepted it, location is apparently too close to existing poi's
I am aware. Just surprised it wasn't slapped with a 1* due to it being blurry or unreadable.
Was it polished? I rejected one a few months ago because the submitter's reflection was visible in the polished stone.
Just because there is a lot of history behind the orchard doesn't make a tiny stamp in concrete portal worthy. If this place is so great, there has to be better candidates than that.
At the same time we tried that. Everything is too close within 20m of each other the playground etc. It isn't that we haven't tried we have. I would argue it is permanent and featured in articles and promotes people to explore the area therefore it could be worthy.

In 1985, Kevin Donovan moved to a new home in Arlington, Texas near what is now O.S. Gray Natural Area. But what was once pecan giant Oscar “O.S.” Gray’s nursery, now stood what appeared to be an overgrown woodland.Donovan and his family, as well as his friends and neighbors, would often come to the wooded area to play and enjoy nature. But it wasn’t until 1996 that Donovan realized that this space could be so much more. He recalls the particular trip that changed everything. He and his children were making their usual visit to space when his daughter told him: “This is a really nice park.”

But it wasn’t a park…yet. Donovan and his wife went to the City Council to see what they could do to transform this overgrown space into a park and natural area that could live up to O.S. Gray’s legacy.
By organizing, petitioning, and lobbying the city, Donovan, his wife, and friends were able to get the city of Arlington to add money to a “Parks Bond Package” to buy this area and make it into a park. But it wasn’t until 2010 that these 20-acres would become what we see today.
This lone pecan tree marks part of a row that has long since been surrounded by other vegetation. The Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area continue to work to uncover these trees and bring them to their full glory. (Photo by Catherine Clark)
And it’s all thanks to the Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area.
As one of the founding members of Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area, Donovan and his fellow volunteers led the effort to restore O.S. Gray’s pecan nursery.
The 20-acre park provides “a woodland escape” for Arlington residents. With picnic tables, a playground, walking trails, and wildflower gardens, the park has become a space to honor O.S. Gray’s legacy and to provide locals with a taste of nature, even in the big city.
Originally, the area stretched across 46 acres when O.S. Gray was running his nursery in the 1930s to 1980s. Operating the leading pecan nursery in Texas for many years, O.S. Gray was a “true horticulturist,” according to Benton J. Storey, Ph.D. He was the president of Texas Pecan Growers Association from 1962 to 1963. Gray spent many trips searching for and discovering the best pecans. He is remembered as one of the greatest pecan breeders and nursery operators in the Southwest and as a true pioneer in the pecan industry. He cultivated a number of varieties, including ‘GraKing’, ‘GraZona’, ‘GraTex’, and ‘GraPark Giant.’
Over the years, the Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area have transformed this once overgrown space into a proper park in O.S. Gray’s memory; their work continues today as there is still much to do. This non-profit group builds and maintains pollinator gardens, installs park benches, constructs mulch trails, engages native vegetation renovation, and hosts work days and nature walks as well as other events within the park. Overall, the Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area try to help manage the property.
“One of our goals is to manage vegetation to commemorate O.S. Gray,” says Donovan. “Being a small group, we don’t have the funds or manpower to do that yet.”
One aspect of O.S. Gray Park is Rosser’s Meadow, which is covered in wildflower blooms and still being revived. (Photo by Catherine Clark)
The Friends of O.S. Gray welcome volunteers, donations, and any assistance. To reach their goal of truly commemorating this industry legend, the group continues to search for trees that are Gray’s varieties, such as ‘GraKing’, ‘GraTex’, ‘GraZona’, and ‘GraPark Giant.’ If you have any of these varieties or would like to contribute to the Friends of O.S. Gray Natural Area’s work, please contact Kevin Donovan at kevin@friendsofosgray.org. The group hopes to plant these trees in the park so to further educate visitors about pecans, nature, and a pecan pioneer: O.S. Gray.
I mean they are a part of the destination for naturalists. Just because something isn't visually unique doesn't mean it isn't worthy.
Nope no reflective surfaces whatsoever. I've been thinking about it and I wonder if new reviewers possibly think having real full names means it should be rejected? Honestly don't know but it was in the queue for a long time and I'm unlikely to go back.
I also had a Monarch Waystation portal delayed , for two reasons:
a.) low quality photo (photo was of the monarch waystation sign with a few of the plants in the background)
b.) flagged for abuse/taunting (it’s a friggin garden. The description was just a synopsis of how monarch waystations work. no people or groups were mentioned)
whether or not you agree a monarch waystation is portal worthy, it’s just another example of how ridiculous voters are lately. Or maybe they’ve always been this ridiculous, we’re just now seeing the backwards reasons they’re using to deny what they can.
Every goofy denial just proves we need reviewer audits.
I honestly think some people vote on how they would submit instead of following the rules. I feel personal bias is going on. I just had another pecan stamp denied and it was clearly in the photosphere. I think the lies are just now out in the open.

this is an example that shows the real world location isn't there only triggers if someone pushes mismatched location:
A tank isn't the same as a water tower 😂
I remember reviewing this and I think I gave it 4 stars. Clearly not a gravestone. A community doesn't spend money on a memorial like that in such a prominent place unless it's for someone important within their community. The fact that there are fresh flowers on it means that people within that community still care for that police officer despite his **** in 2018.
