I am ready to start reporting false rejection reasons this is getting out of hand.
just got a rejection email for a plaza marked as generic business. Clearly we need to have people retake the OPR test as it becoming a joke, It is frustrating submitting something and being given pre-canned rejections on submissions that should be valid. I personally have been lucky to have had a very low rejection rate of 26 denials with 270 approvals but some of the ones coming out since prime rejections don't make sense people marking a plaza as a generic business, community commons in an apartment complex being marked private property and being told something that is permanent is temporary is frustrating this is the 3rd submission in this area this week with bad rejection answers.
PORTAL REVIEW COMPLETE: MORITZ PLAZA
Your Portal nomination has been reviewed, and we have decided not to accept this candidate.
Your nomination is rejected due to the following reason(s):
The real-world location of the nomination appears to represent a generic store or restaurant, Nomination does not meet acceptance criteria.
Note that we will not be overturning this decision. If you believe your New Portal nomination should have been accepted, we suggest re-submitting the Portal candidate after improving the photo.

Moritz Plaza
Moritz Plaza is located in front of the northern entrance to College Park Center. There is decorative stones for sitting on along with mixed use devolpment in the plaza for students and vistors that do not attend the college.

So is it just shopping and/or offices there? Pretty landscaping around the building name doesn't make it portal-worthy. The architecture isn't unique in any recognizable way. I'm just not seeing anything that qualifies it, and I'm usually more generous in approvals than a lot of people.
My assumption on many of these “fake reject reasons” is that reviewers stretch the reject reason to meet one of the pre-defined reasons just so they don’t have to type up a comment when they select “Doesn’t meet criteria”.
I’m not saying it is right, but I can see people doing it to reduce time and effort.
Even a good rejection for a wrong reason is a good rejection.
no it is not. That building it is in front of is a college basketball arena. The agents who did the generic business sped vote. This isn't a valid reason to reject @grendelwulf. College park center is the name of the university of texas at arlington's basketball arena.
https://www.utacollegepark.com/ It has shopping, dorms, a green space area, this plaza and the arena it isn't just a generic shopping mall as some think.
I have to be honest, looking at that sign, it appears to be just an office building.
Now, if I had come across this nomination to review I would have at least tried to locate it on google maps to figure out what it was. Upon googling Moritz Plaza, I get a Foursquare profile page with only one picture and no information. The picture doesn't look like an area where people gather. The FaceBook page for Moritz plaza has one old picture from 2015. The best view I got of it was here https://www.youvisit.com/tour/panoramas/uta/80264?id=277935 but in these pictures I don't see a gathering area, just an area where students are walking between buildings on campus.
Did you explain in your description that it was associated with a sporting arena or give some kind of supporting information that makes it sound portal worthy? You can't see anything that looks like a gathering area in your photo or online. I'm not saying it isn't a gathering area, just that I can't find definite signs.
Based on your description here in the community it sounds like there is some potential, but based on quick googling the most I would have given this portal submission with out some support in the description is 3 stars. Your best bet is to resubmit the portal with a detailed description of just what is at Moritz Plaza.
So it is a generic multi-use space that just uses the word "plaza" to sound artsy.
Based on the information you provided, I would have panned this as a generic office building as well.
