Subdivision signs no longer mentioned in the (Wayfarer) criteria?
In the old OPR guidelines, it was pretty clear to "REJECT unless they are historic or have some significance."
Has this changed at all with the removal of any mentions of it from Wayfarer?

Yeah I'm not really sure why they got rid of the ratings guide and if that means those instructions are no longer valid?
But also where would development signs fit current acceptance criteria?
The Pokemon Go players have already started submitting all the neighborhood and estates signage. I've been rating them based on the old criteria. But if it has changed with Wayfarer, I don't really have a problem with approving them if they are now deemed "eligible". I mean, they did used to get approved by Niantic back in 2013....
What acceptance criteria does a neighborhood sign meet though?
nothing. But Some of the city entrance signs might be valid if it isn't in front of a PRP. I have gotten a few of those approved but they weren't just a basic sign. They were brick masonry with city name two had est. date and one had a welcome slogan.
Yeah I think those are pretty culturally significant but a neighborhood sign isnt unless it's historic district or something that actually fits criteria
I would reject unless it's really artistic AND pedestrian accessible. Most aren't both of those.
I don't take the rating guide's missing status as a reason to change voting except where updated recommendations have changed.
Oh most certainly pedestrian access. But artsy should not be forced. If it has something that meets guidelines such has a slogan with a date and it is pedestrian friendly should be valid.
I wish niantic would just place it under "Potentially Confusing Nominations " so I actually have something I can point new submitters to say "this is why it is not eligible" rather than just my word for it,
The one dominating criteria would be: PRP. Nearly all of these are right at the edge of property lines, and almost certainly within 40m.
The previous rules, as written, forbade all of them except in cases where they were iconic (ie. the "HOLLYWOOD" sign was originally such a development sign for HOLLYWOODLAND).
Personally I wouldn't have any problem accepting most of these, so long as they don't violate any specific rule forbidding their location, such as PRP, K12, etc.
But without an explicit clarification from @RedSoloCup most will continue to be rejected by reviewers, due to the previous ruling.
In my area most of these are on city corners with no houses nearby at traffic signals on the corner of the intersection with pedestrian access via a crosswalk and signal present. Now there are a few on the freeway that are instant 1*
Most subdivision signs I see are nothing more than the name plastered on some masonry work. I would expect them to all get rejected for lacking unique or artistic qualities. As a player in rural suburbia with these signs being the only thing for miles at some points, it pains me to know they are not eligible
I have always been tempted to submit my neighborhood sign it’s more unique than the standard and with this change I might for the fun of the try. Bad picture below from google maps.
Don't, it's not really any more unique than the standard, you'd be wasting your sub.
Even if we ignore the old ratings guide and just go by wayfarer information they still don't meet any acceptance criteria. Unless they were some kind of huge monument or art installation they're just signs with words on them. Not a gathering place, not culturally significant, not historical or informational. I still wouldn't submit them personally.
Neighborhood development signs are all over the place and a few of them were accepted before they were excluded. In my opinion they will be a big part of the Pokemon Go submissions if they don't again exclude them specifically, and the same will probably approve them because they are usually next to a sidewalk, a thing that's not part of a prp, even if it's possibly on the corner of pvp, some already are, and a thing that seems to fit the mold of 'something different that doesn't belong to a single individual or business'. In other words, it feels like a good submission.
I hope the Wayfarer help section isn't the comprehensive guidance document we have been waiting for.
Unless you know the history behind the subdivision's naming and can explain it in 144 characters or less it probably would be a wasted sub.
