Let's imagine how you would like to see the interface and design of ingress prime?

Among the visitors to our forum, there are probably designers or just people who can draw (perhaps even better than Niantic designers). Let's fantasize what might be ingress prime that most people would really like.

Comments

  • It would look almost EXACTLY LIKE REDACTED

*high contrast so you can SEE THE GAME, making the game accessible to older players.

*textured fields so you can SEE THE FIELDS

*larger portals so you can SEE AND INTERACT with portals.

    *zero introduced chromatic abberation.

*2D map to reduce memory needs and enhance users experience zooming in and out.

*no reliance on magnetometers so the game is accessible to lower income players.

*text for inventory to save space, reduce memory requirements, and ensure 1 hand operation.

*text for portal menu to save space, reduce memory requirements, and ensure 1 hand operation.

Only things from Prime I would keep: dedicated faction/crossfaction/alerts in comm.

Only differences from Redacted I would like:

*slide lock for comms so it doesnt pop up all the time.

*XM meter stays visible in inventory and portal page.

*no speed lock on recharge or mission selection page.

Day/night change for the map, just like there is in the other 2 games.

  • Same as it is now just with better button feedback animations and scanner customization options

Tbh, the interface looked about what I imagined it to be. It's minimalistic, but I think that's for the best. Too much graphics detract from the game's overall aesthetic.

Although when I think about it, maybe different skins could be applied to the interface. Currently portals are depicted as whispy portals of energy. Maybe this could be reskinned different ways, such as a chibi theme (portals look like anime fireballs) an underwater theme (portals give off bubbles) a retro theme (portals look blocky and vent small cubes) and so forth. I suppose for older hardware, a vector graphics theme could be made (think tron graphics) which cuts down on the processor load of the game. For paid themes, this could be followed up with appropriate sound and graphics for items in inventory.

Also, maybe a "minimap" feature could be added to ingress. This is kind of like League of Legends, where the entire summoner's rift map is shown in the bottom - right corner, only here the minimap would be all portals within a user-provided radius of the player. Although, that would take up space on a screen that is already really small and crowded, so I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

Also, additional animations could play for different errors. For instance, after an agent hacks a portal, that portal can turn reddish while it is "running hot" and slowly return to normal over time. If a person is speed locked, then maybe their xm bar will cycle red - yellow - purple until the agent is no longer speed-locked. (I saw this animation once. I think it was due to a graphics glitch, but it would be cool to implement the concept in game)

Also, if you are under your own faction's xm field, then your cursor would turn your faction's color and faintly glow, signifying that you're getting power from your faction's shield.

  • Like this?

seriously though... what kind of game (don't forget that's what Ingress is, a game) has ever taken as much feedback as Niantic has on the design of everything. This isn't a text based adventure game, it's an AR Game.

  • Como a do redacted.

  • I honestly like what they have going on with Prime. I do wish they had a graphics setting to lower the quality because I know some phones aren't as powerful. When I'm playing Prime on my iPad, I can love seeing all the flashy things and graphics, but when I'm on my phone and trying to move fast, the game just takes too long to load. What I do wish they would do is increase the button sizes on most buttons. A ton of buttons are just way too small. I mean I have **** sausage fingers so I'll miss the buttons quite often. Or tap something else.

  • The buttons are all small and awkwardly placed. The contrast is low, and I NEVER want all these "fancy" graphics.

I haven't seen prime listen to any suggestions. You must be thinking of scanner redacted.

    Lock the POV.

    Increase contrast.

    Put texture on fields.

    Make portals more visible.

Turn it all back to redacted.

  • I'd love a redesign of the button layout. The only button placement I like is the hack button. I feel like the design could be more intuitive. As a right handed user, I find myself annoyed having to each over to press deploy.

You can just tap any resonator slot to go to the deploy screen.

  • My Prime wouldn't change much. I'd probably go a bit further in making everything contrastually stand out a bit more still but other then that my design grievences with Prime as it's currently standing are pretty much nonexistant.

I'm way more irked by all the issues that still need a fix like that overzealous speed-lock if you don't explicitly close prime when moving to a different place.

  • Are you getting Prime and Redacted mixed up? Redacted hasn't had a single change in 2-3 years! And have you seen the difference between original Prime and how it is today? All from user feedback.

  • I liked that redacted didn't change. It had already been optimized.

The only change I noticed in prime was the introduction of a compass. A change that was necessary for parity to redacted.

Also, that compass still doesnt work for phones without magnetometers, despite the fact that the compass in other unity games works just fine without one. I've been mentioning that compass issue for a year now.

But yeah. I'm sure little things like basic navigation in a map-based game aren't very important. Yay prime. Everyone love it. That's why it has a 3.1 rating.
