Speed lock type behaviour in Prime

I have been using Prime for quite some time and I have been impressed with the new features and parity that has been iterated in to the build. My one main bugbear however seems not to have been addressed.
When travelling via vehicle, on Scanner (REDACTED) it was possible to leave the scanner open and this showed new local portals in the vicinity as well as letting you know when you were coming up on a set of targets for example. In the old scanner you could pretty much do what you want with the app, as long as you didn't take an action (so you could switch the app in and out, do other stuff, bring the app back up when you got to a portal, hack, etc.
In Prime, it is very sensitive to vehicular movement and enforcing speed lock. For example the following behavour is super irritating...
- Travel to portal A, deploy.
- Lock phone. Drive to portal B, say, a 5 minute drive away.
- Unlock phone, Ingress pops up. Your player arrow is at the old location. GPS updates, and then you are dragged across the map super fast.
- Congratulations, you are now speed locked.
This makes playing by car really tricky unless you make a point of closing the app each time you move, and with the long loading time, really detracts from the fast tactical aspect of play as well as making things less enjoyable.
Anyone else experiencing this or is it a horrible dream?

I have a habit of turning my screen off to save battery when traveling between locations, and this speed locking is so incredibly annoying. Now I force quit the app, but it's hard to wait for the app to load back up just to check what's nearby or how close I am to where I was trying to go.
