Park signs are almost always accepted on OPR, but some parks do not have a sign saying the name of the park. Attempts to submit such parks showing grass areas and walking paths are often rejected on the basis of being a ‘natural feature’. If the park does not have a gazebo or playground, this leaves the area with no portals, despite still being a place for people to gather.
Are parks eligible candidates even if they lack a manmade sign?
A cairn can be built pretty easy and free from rocks at the park. (Problem is people wont approve a bunch even though they are natural and artsy. They would say it's a natural feature and reject them.)
Questions about Pokemon go and HPWU should be removed, the AMA is strictly about ingress.
Q1: in my country, practically every alley would have a gate to sign the entrance. Are all of these valid candidates, or should they be treated as street signs, where only unique ones should be approved?
Q2: Housing complexes in my country commonly have the name of the complex in front of their entrance. Are these valid candidates, or are they treated as development sign?
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to @GearGlider for posting my questions in the official thread, opening from 3:30-5:00 am my local time meant I had to sleep.
I will say a lot of people are so negative on the AMA thread like throwing Disagree on everything. Personally I went form 3 to 35 for just asking questions on the AMA.
@GearGlider Some of yours got trashed so hard, its ridiculous.
Quick yes, but also more questions than average overall. The thread opened after I'd gone to bed and was closed loooong before I would normally have woken up.
But it's almost like he was waiting for the ObLasagna question before closing? Sorry guys, my bad
I believe the disagreement votes in those cases are the result of people marking questions they don't want answered in favor of questions they do want answered. Not sure if Niantic has it set to where if there are enough disagreements, the comment is "hidden" and requires the readers action to "unhide" the comment. If that is the case, I would very much like to see disagreements turned off for those topics in order to prevent people from mass hiding questions like that. @NianticCasey, is that possible?
A lot of my OPR questions always get trashed, and the silly ones too. I understand the silly ones because of the "stop having fun" people but idk why people dislike the OPR ones, even for objects that will probably be listed as a reject.
Back on G+, before PoGo players got Pokestop Nominations but after it was announced they would, I was asking Krug how NIA was going to handle the incoming storm. I got trashed then too for talking about PoGo in an ingress thread. Now it's blown up into a huge issue in many countries and it's always a topic in AMAs with how it's going to be handled. Some people have no foresight or just don't care.
There were 237 posts in the June/July AMA question topic. The August AMA question topic had 222 posts. This time, there were 199 posts in the AMA question topic. Now remember, not all posts are questions and there is always one post stating that the topic is closed, but Andrew is allowing fewer posts to be made before closing the topic.
Your "jail" was the result of your repeated baseless accusations of cheating, dragging several discussions off topic, and general harassment of other forum users. It had nothing to do with disagreements.
All in all, this thread was a great idea @AgentB0ss, we should have one of these before every AMA. Give people more time to organize questions so we don't have too many multiples, and get questions asked for people in different countries who wouldn't be awake at the AMA times. Things like that.
ironically. It was on my threads... Wait i am not allowed to speak on my threads? It was because people are flag happy and don't care what it does to others.
@GearGlider Honestly, I was thinking the same. I will likely or someone else can open one for next time. I think opening it sooner so we can discuss and come up with concise questions to ask, also to help reduce duplicates.
All the flags did was the cause Niantic staff to review the account to see if it was posting within community rules. I had a simialr situation where a group of individuals were mass flagging my posts everywhere on the forums because I called out fake evidence in a portal appeal. Cassy reviewed the flags and cleared almost all of them.
However, you did post in several discussions that you weren't originally involved in, bringing up topics that had nothing to do with what was being discussed. I know because I specifically reported those posts as well as every post where you accused other forum users for cheating because they weren't evaluating portals the way you wanted them to. Anyways, that will be the last I will say on the matter.
Like ownership of portals in Ingress, no thread is "your" thread. And you can't "win" a thread by somehow creating the most noise and content within it.
They are the community's threads. Once it's there, the question is asked, all we can do is wait for others' opinions to filter in.
The only way to "win" is to learn. We try to teach, we point to where Niantic has made its rulings, and normally that's enough.
This thread was a great idea - AMAs are usually like "blink at it's gone" for my timezone! Must catch it next time.
Good qustions in here, I especially want to point out @TropicalJets post with local pictures, must be much easier to see for Niantic (which seem very US-focused)
Once Octobers AMA Answers are posted I will create a new thread to begin discussions. Personally I wish there could be a separate OPR AMA as I really believe it needs a little more attention than its getting currently.

Ouch - I'm probably locked out then as it's just turned midnight here and I need to go to sleep soon.

Just going to say as a general reminder to anyone reading this that the last rule listed under the AMA rules is
Don't write a one-way argument. We aren't debating.
I'm aware. Just helping him out. It's part of my 50 questions. To make it aware they can be built easy to help parks for everyone.
(I was going to ask if they would limit them to just parks, adventurous areas, bars and restaurants.)

Missed the AMA because work dammit 🤦♂️
Anyway what is the general opinion on this?

And thanks @Kliffington for posting mine! By the time I got to the last page of the AMA questions I thought there was no hope haha.
No problem, it felt really close to the end so I wanted to sneak it in there! It's a really helpful question and one I had wondered about in the past!
Man I was tired. 48 hours of being up and they closed the thread fast. It should be given more time... smh.
@RedSoloCup Will you answer the questions in here too?
It went quick last night for sure.

Glad you got to throw that question in ahaha

Welcome to my world... Soon you will be in jail too.
The painted trash cans was asked!!!! lol. I think I brought them up a while ago about how they were allowed, but a parks rules sign isn't. lol.
