“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”
Perringaiden - knowing you, I'm quite used you have trouble understanding a well written text, but I still must point out that there is nothing that would suggest "encouragement of spoofing and the like". Where did that came from?
best wishes for all those who kept spirit of Old Ingress alive till now. I sign under every word in the post above. And I was glad being a part of the rebel team though my region hasn’t been used. I’d do that thing too.
We don't police the player base. You have the support site you can use to report spoofers, harassment and portal location abuse. That's not what we're here for. People ascribe all sorts of responsibilities to us that just isn't true. Please do read the link provided above to get a clearer picture of what the Vanguard role entails.
We can, however, help with resetting spoofed durable portals and links.
What you stated here is just a opinion. Your's and from others, but it is still just a opinion.
I agree with you about the core of your statment. Ingress should remain to be a PvP game. Even if you make a xf event because of storytelling, Ingress should still offer players the possibility to choose a side. If not RES or ENL then may Nemesis or NIA.
What keeps me playing Ingress is that it is a PvP game with real opponents and real persons, all the time without the possibility to bail out. Not just friendship duells or just comparing yourself with other players.
..quote: Ingress could have become a fantastic eSport with action, emotions, sponsors, fan base, and lots of money for Niantic.
Healthy XF relationships mean mutual respect and civility with one's opposition outside the game and total war within the game, you know. Guardian huntning didn't hurt XF realtionships any more than, let's say, destroying someone's couch portal on regular basis. Or are you saying we shouldn't do it? :)
While I sort of agree on some of the things you've said, I do not agree with your methods even though you have all rights to play as you please. There's already enough hate and anger towards people because they don't play according to a certain standard.
In my eyes the best course of action would have been to just ignore the event and play your regular game. That way you can make your point and not be XF.
Denying someone a badge by hunting their GP is not healthy XFaction relations. Blowing up their couch is not even close to the same thing as going out of the way to hunt a GP. Given what was involved recently in GP hunts before the badge was retired that did not help XFaction relations at all.
Katth - my point is by forcing factions to love each other Niantic intentionally introduces new lines of conflict. Which makes Niantic the most toxic agent in the game.
I regulary go out of my way to destroy Res couch portals to deny the opposition resources to paint my area blue. Guardian hunting was going out of one's way to deny the opposition badges. What's the core difference?
It's in the nature of some people to bring toxicity to real world from ingame rivalry. Destroyed guardians or couch portals, prevented operations, etc., it really doesn't matter what exactly one denies the opposition, someone will hold a grudge IRL. Guardians were just one way to hurt one's adversaries interests in the game which is based around hurting one's adversaries interests. PvP. get it?
I had civil, peaceful and in no way toxic conversations with agents whose guardian portals I destroyed. On the contrary, some other members from my city Res community whose guardians I never touched are still openly resentful bacause I used to smash a lot of blue flash farms back in my day when it was still viable strategy to dominate the area.
Some context for newer people: When levels 9 to 16 came out, there were fewer badges to work with for leveling. The two Onyx badges you could get in a reasonable amount of time were Recharger and Guardian. Guardian hunting wasn't just denying people the badge, it was denying them level 16.
The best post till date .. the post rightfully written and has all the right to express the anger .. the best i have and had read in past 5Yrs of my game play .. I doubt I bear with NIA anymore .. Thank You @Snegniy
I strongly disagree with a lot of stuff in OP, but also agree with many points. Prime is not Great Evil, and betraying anyone by playing shards is silly hyperbole. Yes, Prime has been like an alpha build for most of its public existence, but the current version should work as intended.
I see Ingress as its best as sort of a sandbox game where players come up with their tasks and stores, and carry out their own operations. To me this is the heart and the core. Many communities have been thriving because of these shared operations, secrets, stories, and camaderie. This is something that current Niantic management seems to not understand.
The nature of the game makes it hard to monetize, especially with Niantic's approach of trying to "pokemonize" the game store. They'd need a drastically different approach than selling some bursters. Of course, the latest fee for anomalies is out right toxic.
The esports idea is something that was floated in Finland too. I wont go into details, but suffice to say that these players would gladly pay for API access or proper stats for the events that they'd organize. Would this be profitable or scalable? No idea.
I know the player base has had ideas, and perhaps most of those are not viable. But it seems that most of Niantic's ideas aren't any better.
Egads. Fighting the temptation to spew out my own bile on these nothing-berger topics is harder and harder to do.
I have seen suggestions by players taken up by developers, even my own... On how to make ingress better. I am going to focus on that.
All the "what could have been's" are short sighted. Pogo players say the same thing. We can all imagine perfect world's in our mind palaces... Doesn't mean Misty would have been able to conjour it out of thin air.
If the loss of redacted is causing you to leave... If you imagine the nemesis event to be some paradigm shift that will obliterate factional competition forever...? If the lack of new gameplay keeps you petrified, if pogos success leaves a bad taste in your mouth, if you've been driven away by all the toxicity over the years and the seeming lack of community engagement... If the convoluted story... Awkward media... Or lack of policy enforcement caused you to flee... or any number of other grievances that any other number of people have about a relatively amazing game that has been relatively free to play for a longer amount Of time than the original creators expected... I hope you find a game out there that satisfies what you're looking for. I know someone will eventually create it.
I will still be here... Despite family getting in the way, work getting in the way, and having a life outside of Ingress getting in the way. I'm going to ride this sheet pan down the side of this mountain into whatever pile of rubble awaits me. Niantic was never any better than it already is. You either like it or you don't. I'm not surprised by them. I expect nothing. I am owed nothing.
So they are all the same useless. The link says that the vanguards are the advocates of the players. Therefore, then you cannot convey the simple thing that ingress is a game about competition. With one decision, Nia excluded entire communities from participating in anomalies via recharge rooms. Your voice is not heard. Announce your position publicly, and do not broadcast about how useful the program is, the results of which the ordinary player does not see.
I don't see how NIA excluded entire communities from participating in anomalies via recharge rooms? All you need to participate is register with Niantic, get a playbox key and recharge it during the anomaly. It's even EASIER now for rechargers to participate.
I assume what you are referring to is getting the anomaly badge? Well, unfortunately for that you'll need to pay. But if the price is not within your budget, nothing stops you from either a) asking your community for a little help to possibly crowdfund a set of tickets for those interested in recharging for a badge, or b) register for a free ticket, forgo the badge but help your faction regardless in recharging.
Your voice is not heard. >> You are unfortunately not in a position to verify this.
I can assure you we are heard. But the NDA we all signed prevents us from revealing any discussions that do take place.
You undermine your own argument when you attack the players for playing the game that Niantic is asking us to play. If you don't like Xfac stuff, don't do them. THIS WAS A SINGLE, ONE TIME EVENT. I haven't heard any complaints about XFAC IFS, which happens on a monthly basis, hmm....

Butwatever. It was a great few years that were very much like life. Prime is not good for the game at all, I'm very sorry.
Thanks to the people who made this game so cool. (including topicstarter 😘)
I see your point. There needs to a way in between to provide at least some information. No one knows what you are doing for us. :-/
Totally agree, Snejok ;)

How did you build "Healthy" Xfaction relationships by being an active Guardian hunter?

Soo True !!!
@Snegniy Excellent comment. Thank you for writing down all that truth.

When people say 'Punk Ingress', that's usually the go-to move. Because anything else requires actual effort.
If he didn't mean it, that's what a lot of trolls are going to interpret it as anyway.

Thanks for saying it from all of us who loved old-school ingress.
And thank you for helping me to make up my mind whether I should pay for the recharge participation =)
