Just junk prime and make a new platform for redacted

Seriously.

Speed lock on steriods.

The curse of the phantom link.

Compasses that dont point north on the map.

Avatars that always point north.

No right-to-left language options.

Navigate to option missing.

Crashes while charging.

Graphics still hard to see.

Controls still missing.

And the primepocalypse is tomorrow.

We want redacted.

Yes,some have been playing prime for a year. They could have been playing redacted for a year. The rest of us have been playing redacted for over a year because prime still doesnt work.

  • I agree with you. I went from being a VERY active player for the last 5 yrs on redacted to a complete stand still. Now I hack twice a day to keep my hacking streak up (1484 days) and I am not sure why I bother. I am letting my 'area go' coz it is more stressful to get out there and play on Prime.

Prime is NOT a easy, user friendly mobile app like redacted was and it doesn't motivate me to go out and play.

Redacted was simple to navigate through, Easy to learn. Easy to see portals colors, ownership, mods etc...all your info right there.

Easy and quick to hack, destroy, deploy in a certain order, mod up and link out and field. Done and you moved on.

Graphics? Really? They are awful. Who designed these and what age group were they targeting? Very hard to distinguish gear etc...

Hard seeing the graphics...are those portals neutral or blue? Green rings around a blue portal? I was told it was from the shields...geez. Lets not talk about a battery waster too.

This is only day 7 of Prime and most agents on both sides have stopped playing in our area.

I have been playing redacted for almost 5 yrs now...I tried when Prime first came out and disliked it because it doesn't work well.

Just bring redacted back. We want it back! You had a great, easy mobile app going that people of all ages could play... why fix something that isn't broken?

The next update, mid October, has some massive bugs expected to be fixed.

Some are still holding pit, waiting for the multi, long outstanding bugs to be fixed

  • It shouldn't even be called Prime, as by definition, it isn't Prime at all.

    prime

    /prīm/

    adjective

    1.of first importance; main.

"her prime concern is the well-being of the patient"

2.of the best possible quality; excellent.

    "prime cuts of meat"

Being that we would love to pretend that it was named thusly for the second definition, which is clearly isn't by a long shot.

I suspect the definition of Prime we're actually looking for is:

In mathematics, the prime is generally used to generate more variable names for things which are similar, without resorting to subscripts – x′ generally means something related to or derived from x.

  • Prime is better*, nobody has quit around me.

*Unless you're experiencing performance problems on more recent high end phones for no reason, as some people report. It's great with not closing in the background and for performing good on my Huawei P20 Pro

Prime has had a year to improve, but it is never going to happen.

Junking prime and figuring out a way to get a working platform to run redacted on is the only issue.

Threads about prime are just cluttering up the forum.

  • Well maybe if they hadn't wasted two years on prime, we'd have a working platform for Redacted by now.

  • starwortstarwort ✭✭✭✭✭

But we are where we are. No amount of whining is going to bring Redacted back.

And for the most part, Prime is fine (or will be once they fix the obvious bugs). Almost none of what's wrong with Prime is related to the fact that they mixed the user interface around a bit.

  • You're entitled to your opinion on what is and is not wrong with prime, but for me, almost all of what's wrong with prime IS the user interface.

I'd much rather have a glitch-filled version of redacted than the current version of prime.

In fact, I'd much rather have no game at all than the current version of prime. It's not playable. Technical reasons aren't the issue. I cant see half of it, and I dont recognize the rest.

It would be faster to fix the bugs in Prime than it would be to start all over for a third time.

  • I also don't play that much since we only have prime and no more backup.

I also think the interface is really bad compared to redacted, but after time we'll see what we get.

Redacted made big changes too in the last few years, it was an evolution. Prime is just a revolution and hopefully NIA will to a good job very "soon"

  • Itd be nice if prime could perform a devolution to be more like redacted

  • Landscape mode could offer some different options..... Jus sayin'

  • Why can't the UI be skinnable by third parties?

Why did they have to radically alter the interface?

Why can't we have a redacted interface on Unity?

I've heard that Libgdx is still in development, even if robovm isn't, so we could go really old school, Android only Redacted, like the original days of Ingress.

Why have we gone from the Cool Sci-Fi Google maps utility, to this tron light cycles game? The old version felt like I was looking at a utility, I could pretend I was a secret agent in a hidden war, travelling to special locations in my area, now it feels like pokemon, with my poke-scanner, lobbing poke-xmp at poke-candles, i mean portals.

I confess I'm a Redacted addict, I've been playing for 5.5 years before that fateful september day. Prime doesn't fill the redacted size hole in my life, Prime reminds me of everything Redacted isn't. I'm quitting to grieve. Part of this grieving is speaking out how I felt about Redacted, so I find threads like this very important because I don't feel alone and abandoned by the app I've dedicated 5+ years to.

    So I leave with these analogies, which sum up how I feel about prime;

Prime is to Redacted what A Phantom Menace is to A New Hope.

Prime is the new puppy/kitten too soon after the old pet has died.

Or repeating myself, Redacted is a Sci-Fi google maps, while Prime looks (and plays) like a game.

If you understand this you might understand why I (we) don't like prime. I'm sure I'm not alone in my feelings.

  • Redacted was old school. The green and blue felt almost like a monochrome screen running DOS.

Redacted was functional. It looked like someone had made it for serious work.

Prime is neither. It looks like someone made it not so much to attract new blood, but rather to drive away the old.

If redacted is gone for good, I'm unhappy. If prine is here to stay, I'm unhappy.

But if prime is here to stay, it should do a number of things that Redacted did.

Prime has certain things wrong, and I'm not just talking about bugs.

1: CONTRAST: things were clear to see in redacted. Nobody has fresh 20/20 vision forever. Washing out the contrast in the game DISCRIMINATES! We need lighter lights on darker darks to see. we also need better color contrasts. Dark purple is not a good color on a black screen. Ingress had a lot more green and blue.

A lot of people with poor vision can't compete in traditional sports. Location based gaming is one of the few venues where they can get outside to exercise and satisfy their competitive urges.

As people age, the ability to see contrast diminishes. Reducing contrast in the game is age discrimination. I can understand tactics designed to bring fresh faces in. But squeezing old faces out? What for? Retirees have the free time to play the game, and if they've planned financially, they also have money to spend on the game. Kids have time, but not money.

Even if these were not issues, better contrast would allow players to more rapidly recognize their game environment, and do so under more lighting conditions. Unless the financial model for ingress no longer supports constant play, I would expect making it easier for players to use ingress in full sunlight to be a responsible financial decision.

2 DIMENSIONS maps are inherently two dimensional representations of our three dimensional world. In a world where your avatar is a flat arrow, XM is a bunch of dots, and altitude is irrelevant, there is no need for the map to be fully three dimensional.

The three dimensional nature of the game just makes zooming in and out more difficult without adding to the game... except where phones wash out so much of the portal that you have to ho into 3D mode just to find it... speaking of which, did I not mention contrast earlier?

3: TEAM COLORS: purple XM bar? Gold and blue avatar? Why? As far as I can see, most agents would rather have these be their team colors, as they were in REDACTED. Not only is the dark purple of the xm bar harder to see, it makes agents less aware of team alignment. Is that the goal?

Off of the agent level though... purple outlines for every nearby portal notification? Those outlines could be green or blue for captured portals. Maybe the nearby portal notifications would have some use on familiar territory then.

4 DO NOT RELY ON MAGNETOMETERS : Players without magnetometers should have the same experience as players with magnetometers, because knowing map north, and knowing direction of travel can both be done without a magnetometer. Adding in queries for a magnetometer just takes up memory and bandwidth, nor is it always helpful.

When a phone with a magnetometer is held vertically, direction of heading can be far off from direction of travel, but in this game, if moving, direction of travel matters. If moving, or stationary, direction of heading does not matter. This made playing without a magnetometer a better experience than playing with one in Redacted... and this change may have alienated a lot of long time players who intentionally got phones without magnetometers to better locate their direction of travel.

Moreover, making a magnetometer matter discriminates against the poor. Sure, a phone with a magnetometer might not be 'that much' more. It still is more though. Couple that with people who get phones from cricket, boost, T-mobile, or some kind of tracphone, and you have no good options. Nobody clearly states which lower tier phones do or do not have magnetometers. Finding an affordable phone with a magnetometer could be a months-long process of dizzying research or a multi-hundred-dollat process of trial and error... time and/or money the poor don't have, wasted in order to "play" a game that shouldn't require a magnetometer in the first place... and which they could have been spending on in-game purchases if ingress meant so much to them that they would shell out this kind of effort.

5: FIELD TEXTURE: the regular background is solid black. In redacted, even a colorblind agent could tell, based on field texture, whether or not they were under a field, and therefore, whether or not they could link. With solid green and blue, inside a field looks a lot like outside a field.

    6 LONG HOLD ANYWHERE

currently, a long hold does nothing. Old time players are attacking less, because it takes conscious effort to remember that they must long hold the menu button to attack.

Long hold anywhere for the attack, navigate, new portal menu would be great, especially since
