Epilepsy

in General
Cheers niantic for the heads up that you're going to induce seizures...
Warning for everyone else, current media dropping might be harmful if you do suffer from epilepsy.

@NianticCasey (I know you most likely hate it when I tag you, you don't have to respond, but if at least you see this, maybe some feedback will be given)
Did nobody at Niantic even consider a warning for people with photosensitive epilepsy?
Naw....too busy looking to generate revenue.
This is an issue that might prevent agents in my local community from playing Ingress. A hackable media does not need to have visual effects that make others ill.
As a long time agent with a seizure disorder, i find Prime to be nearly unplayable. The rolling, pulsing animations are incredibly dangerous for myself and others. Niantic's total disregard for ADA and 508 compliance is troubling.
@LemoMcLemonFace thank you for bringing this to our attention. We've removed the animated .gif and replaced it with a static image at the same URL for agents who already hacked the EnemyMine media object and have it in their inventories. We've also removed the EnemyMine media object from the portal network so other players should no longer be able to hack that specific file.
@NianticBrian Thank you. How do you plan on dealing with other problematic animations in Prime?
I'd be shocked if they did, they frequently (as a company in general) don't consider a lot of things that are significantly more common (and common sense) when coming up with ideas and changes as it has been.
@NianticBrian thank you for the quick action.
@NianticBrian Thank you for the quick action too. And feedback: It should be more slowly animation. For example, 6 seconds changing/switching window.
Why does this keep being an issue for Niantic, though? I know of two people who can't even look at Prime without having Grand Mal seizures. It's been an issue since it first came out, and it still hasn't been resolved. You're taking a piecemeal approach to an issue that can (slash will) put the company in an actionable position.
Have there been any additional efforts to eliminate the problematic aspects of the UI? In addition to the seizure-inducing animations, the same items are causing significant eye strain and triggering migraines.
while I understand that not everyone hates these animations, it seems that there aren’t really many who love them so much they’d be upset versus the people that literally cannot enjoy the game because of them.
These graphic and animation related issues were reported so long ago at this point, it’s hard to have hope they will ever be addressed. Please let us know if this is something anywhere on the list of priority items or if we should stop wasting forum space and just move on to other games.
This would be an issue for Niantic to really look into as they go forward with the Niantic Real World Platform. Game accessibility and compliance to various entities like Section 508, W3C, WCAG, and ADA (not the computer obviously) have become universal. I don't see why at least having a less intensive version of the scanner is at the minimum a medium priority.
